Equilibrium and stability of neutrino lumps as TOV solutions
We report about stability conditions for static, spherically symmetric
objects that share the essential features of mass varying neutrinos in
cosmological scenarios. Compact structures of particles with variable mass are
held together preponderantly by an attractive force mediated by a background
scalar field. Their corresponding conditions for equilibrium and stability are
given in terms of the ratio between the total mass-energy and the spherical
lump radius, . We show that the mass varying mechanism leading to lump
formation can modify the cosmological predictions for the cosmological neutrino
mass limits. Our study comprises Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff solutions of
relativistic objects with non-uniform energy densities. The results leave open
some questions concerning stable regular solutions that, to an external
observer, very closely reproduce the preliminary conditions to form
Schwarzschild black holes.Comment: 20 pages, 5 figure
Attractor Solution of Phantom Field
In light of recent study on the dark energy models that manifest an equation
of state , we investigate the cosmological evolution of phantom field in
a specific potential, exponential potential in this paper. The phase plane
analysis show that the there is a late time attractor solution in this model,
which address the similar issues as that of fine tuning problems in
conventional quintessence models. The equation of state is determined by
the attractor solution which is dependent on the parameter in the
potential. We also show that this model is stable for our present observable
universe.Comment: 9 pages, 3 ps figures; typos corrected, references updated, this is

Quantum driven Bounce of the future Universe
It is demonstrated that due to back-reaction of quantum effects, expansion of
the universe stops at its maximum and takes a turnaround. Later on, it
contracts to a very small size in finite future time. This phenomenon is
followed by a " bounce" with re-birth of an exponentially expanding
non-singular universe
The Absorptive Extra Dimensions
It is well known that gravity and neutrino oscillation can be used to probe
large extra dimensions in a braneworld scenario. We argue that neutrino
oscillation remains a useful probe even when the extra dimensions are small,
because the brane-bulk coupling is likely to be large. Neutrino oscillation in
the presence of a strong brane-bulk coupling is vastly different from the usual
case of a weak coupling. In particular, some active neutrinos could be absorbed
by the bulk when they oscillate from one kind to another, a signature which can
be taken as the presence of an extra dimension. In a very large class of models
which we shall discuss, the amount of absorption for all neutrino oscillations
is controlled by a single parameter, a property which distinguishes extra
dimensions from other mechanisms for losing neutrino fluxes.Comment: Introduction enlarged; conclusions added. To appear in Phys. Rev.
Phantom Field with O(N) Symmetry in Exponential Potential
In this paper, we study the phase space of phantom model with O(\emph{N})
symmetry in exponential potential. Different from the model without O(\emph{N})
symmetry, the introduction of the symmetry leads to a lower bound on the
equation of state for the existence of stable phantom dominated attractor
phase. The reconstruction relation between the potential of O(\textit{N})
phantom system and red shift has been derived.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, replaced with the version to appear on Phys. Rev.
Application of time-dependent density functional theory to optical activity
As part of a general study of the time-dependent local density approximation
(TDLDA), we here report calculations of optical activity of chiral molecules.
The theory automatically satisfies sum rules and the Kramers-Kronig relation
between circular dichroism and optical rotatory power. We find that the theory
describes the measured circular dichroism of the lowest states in methyloxirane
with an accuracy of about a factor of two. In the chiral fullerene C_76 the
TDLDA provides a consistent description of the optical absorption spectrum, the
circular dichroism spectrum, and the optical rotatory power, except for an
overall shift of the theoretical spectrum.Comment: 17 pages and 13 PostScript figure
Late-time cosmology in (phantom) scalar-tensor theory: dark energy and the cosmic speed-up
We consider late-time cosmology in a (phantom) scalar-tensor theory with an
exponential potential, as a dark energy model with equation of state parameter
close to -1 (a bit above or below this value). Scalar (and also other kinds of)
matter can be easily taken into account. An exact spatially-flat FRW cosmology
is constructed for such theory, which admits (eternal or transient)
acceleration phases for the current universe, in correspondence with
observational results. Some remarks on the possible origin of the phantom,
starting from a more fundamental theory, are also made. It is shown that
quantum gravity effects may prevent (or, at least, delay or soften) the cosmic
doomsday catastrophe associated with the phantom, i.e. the otherwise
unavoidable finite-time future singularity (Big Rip). A novel dark energy model
(higher-derivative scalar-tensor theory) is introduced and it is shown to admit
an effective phantom/quintessence description with a transient acceleration
phase. In this case, gravity favors that an initially insignificant portion of
dark energy becomes dominant over the standard matter/radiation components in
the evolution process.Comment: LaTeX file, 48 pages, discussion of Big Rip is enlarged, a reference

An accelerated closed universe
We study a model in which a closed universe with dust and quintessence matter
components may look like an accelerated flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW)
universe at low redshifts. Several quantities relevant to the model are
expressed in terms of observed density parameters, and
, and of the associated density parameter related
to the quintessence scalar field .Comment: 11 pages. For a festschrift honoring Alberto Garcia. To appear in

The Influence of Free Quintessence on Gravitational Frequency Shift and Deflection of Light with 4D momentum
Based on the 4D momentum, the influence of quintessence on the gravitational
frequency shift and the deflection of light are examined in modified
Schwarzschild space. We find that the frequency of photon depends on the state
parameter of quintessence : the frequency increases for and
decreases for . Meanwhile, we adopt an integral power number
() to solve the orbital equation of photon. The photon's
potentials become higher with the decrease of . The behavior of
bending light depends on the state parameter sensitively. In
particular, for the case of , there is no influence on the
deflection of light by quintessence. Else, according to the H-masers of GP-A
redshift experiment and the long-baseline interferometry, the constraints on
the quintessence field in Solar system are presented here.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures, 4 tables. European Physical Journal C in pres
Gravitational Coupling and Dynamical Reduction of The Cosmological Constant
We introduce a dynamical model to reduce a large cosmological constant to a
sufficiently small value. The basic ingredient in this model is a distinction
which has been made between the two unit systems used in cosmology and particle
physics. We have used a conformal invariant gravitational model to define a
particular conformal frame in terms of large scale properties of the universe.
It is then argued that the contributions of mass scales in particle physics to
the vacuum energy density should be considered in a different conformal frame.
In this manner, a decaying mechanism is presented in which the conformal factor
appears as a dynamical field and plays a key role to relax a large effective
cosmological constant. Moreover, we argue that this model also provides a
possible explanation for the coincidence problem.Comment: To appear in GR
