Modal couping effects in the free vibration of elastically interconnected beams

    Get PDF
The problem of free vibration of a uniform beam elastically interconnected to a cantilevered beam, representing an idealized launch vehicle aeroelastic model in a wind tunnel, is studied. With elementary beam theory modelling, numerical results are obtained for the frequencies, mode shapes and the generalized modal mass of this elastically cou pled13; system, for a range of values of the spring constants and cantilevered beam stiffness and inertia values. The study shows that when the linear springs are supported at the nodal points corresponding to the first free-free beam mode, the modal interaction comes primarily from the rotational spring stiffness. The effect of the linear spring stiffness on the higher model modes is also found to be marginal. However, the rotational stiffness has a significant effect on all the predominantly model modes as it couples the model13; deformations and the support rod deformations. The study also shows that though the variations in the stiffness or the inertia values of the cantilever beam affect only the13; predominantly cantilever modes, these variations become important because of the fact that the cantilevered support rod frequencies may come close to, or even cross over, the13; predominantly model mode frequencies. The results also bring out the fact that shifting of the support points away from the first mode nodal points has a maximum effect only on the first model mode

Current driven magnetization dynamics in ferromagnetic nanowires with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction

We study current induced magnetization dynamics in a long thin ferromagnetic wire with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). We find a spiral domain wall configuration of the magnetization and obtain an analytical expression for the width of the domain wall as a function of the interaction strengths. Our findings show that above a certain value of DMI a domain wall configuration cannot exist in the wire. Below this value we determine the domain wall dynamics for small currents, and calculate the drift velocity of the domain wall along the wire. We show that the DMI suppresses the minimum value of current required to move the domain wall. Depending on its sign, the DMI increases or decreases the domain wall drift velocity.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure

A netnography study to uncover the underlying dimensions of customer experience with resort brands

    Get PDF
The interest in customer experience has increased at a phenomenal rate. However, research to capture the true meaning of the concept is limited. This study aims to address the question of what are the underlying dimensions that constitute the construct of customer experience. The netnography method is utilized to validate a priori concepts that have been identified in the literature within the context of resort-hotel brands in a Sharm El Sheikh resort in Egypt. The results identified eight dimensions; comfort, educational, hedonic, novelty, recognition, relational, safety and sense of beauty which are consistent with major studies on experience

Estimation of capital and operation costs of backhoe loaders

    No full text
Accurate estimation of equipment costs is a key factor in feasibility study and evaluation of design alternatives of mining projects. In this paper, capital and operation costs of backhoe loaders are estimated using multiple linear regression (MLR), based on principle component analysis (PCA). These cost functions are consisted of five independent variables; bucket size, digging depth, dump height, weight and horse power. The MLR is conducted in two steps. At the first correlation between independent variables is omitted using PCA technique. Thereafter, MLR functions are established using selected significant PCs and total cost functions are constituted as functions of initial variables. At the end, accuracy of functions are evaluated using mean absolute error rate method
