Superconformal constraints for QCD conformal anomalies

    Get PDF
Anomalous superconformal Ward identities and commutator algebra in N = 1 super-Yang-Mills theory give rise to constraints between the QCD special conformal anomalies of conformal composite operators. We evaluate the superconformal anomalies that appear in the product of renormalized conformal operators and the trace anomaly in the supersymmetric spinor current and check the constraints at one-loop order. In this way we prove the universality of QCD conformal anomalies, which define the non-diagonal part of the anomalous dimension matrix responsible for scaling violations of exclusive QCD amplitudes at the next-to-leading order.Comment: 30 pages, 2 figures, LaTe

Off-diagonal parton distributions and their evolution

    Get PDF
We construct off-diagonal parton distributions defined on the interval 0 < X < 1 starting from the off-forward distributions defined by Ji. We emphasize the particular role played by the symmetry relations in the "ERBL-like" region. We find the evolution equations for the off-diagonal distributions which conserve these symmetries. We present numerical results of the evolution, and verify that the analytic asymptotic forms of the parton distributions are reproduced. We also compare the constructed off-diagonal distributions with the non-forward distributions defined by Radyushkin and comment on the singularity structure of the basic amplitude written in terms of the off-diagonal distributions.Comment: 22 pages, Latex, 6 ps figures. Improved presentation after discussions with X.Ji and A.Radyushki

    Nonforward Parton Distributions

    Get PDF
Applications of perturbative QCD to deeply virtual Compton scattering and hard exclusive electroproduction processes require a generalization of usual parton distributions for the case when long-distance information is accumulated in nonforward matrix elements of quark and gluon light-cone operators. We describe two types of nonperturbative functions parametrizing such matrix elements: double distributions F(x,y;t) and nonforward distribution functions F_\zeta (X;t), discuss their spectral properties, evolution equations which they satisfy, basic uses and general aspects of factorization for hard exclusive processes.Comment: Final version, to be published in Phys.Rev.

An SU(3) model for octet baryon and meson fragmentation

    Get PDF
The production of the octet of baryons and mesons in e^+ e^- collisions is analysed, based on considerations of SU(3) symmetry and a simple model for SU(3) symmetry breaking in fragmentation functions. All fragmentation functions, D_q^h(x, Q^2), describing the fragmentation of quarks into a member of the baryon octet (and similarly for fragmentation into members of the meson octet) are expressed in terms of three SU(3) symmetric functions, \alpha(x, Q^2), \beta(x, Q^2), and \gamma(x, Q^2). With the introduction of an SU(3) breaking parameter, \lambda, the model is successful in describing hadroproduction data at the Z pole. The fragmentation functions are then evolved using leading order evolution equations and good fits to currently available data at 34 GeV and at 161 GeV are obtained.Comment: 24 pages LaTeX file including 11 postscript figure file

    Off-Forward Parton Distributions

Recently, there have been some interesting developments involving off-forward parton distributions of the nucleon, deeply virtual Compton scattering, and hard diffractive vector-meson production. These developments are triggered by the realization that the off-forward distributions contain information about the internal spin structure of the nucleon and that diffractive electroproduction of vector mesons depends on these unconventional distributions. This paper gives a brief overview of the recent developments

Primakoff effect in eta-photoproduction off protons

    Get PDF
We analyse data on forward eta-meson photoproduction off a proton target and extract the eta to gamma gamma decay width utilizing the Primakoff effect. The hadronic amplitude that enters into our analysis is strongly constrained because it is fixed from a global fit to available gamma p to p eta data for differential cross sections and polarizations. We compare our results with present information on the two-photon eta-decay from the literature. We provide predictions for future PrimEx experiments at Jefferson Laboratory in order to motivate further studies.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures, gamma-gamma*-eta form factor included, version to appear in Eur. Statistical approach for unpolarized fragmentation functions for the octet baryons

A statistical model for the parton distributions in the nucleon has proven its efficiency in the analysis of deep inelastic scattering data, so we propose to extend this approach to the description of unpolarized fragmentation functions for the octet baryons. The characteristics of the model are determined by using some data on the inclusive production of proton and Λ\Lambda in unpolarized deep inelastic scattering and a next-to-leading analysis of the available experimental data on the production of unpolarized octet baryons in e+ee^+e^- annihilation. Our results show that both parton distributions and fragmentation functions are compatible with the statistical approach, in terms of a few free parameters, whose interpretation will be discussed.Comment: 14 pages, 7 eps figures, to appear in Phys. Proof of Factorization for Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering in QCD

We show that factorization holds for the deeply virtual Compton scattering amplitude in QCD, up to power suppressed terms, to all orders in perturbation theory. Furthermore, we show that the virtuality of the produced photon does not influence the general theorem.Comment: 14 pages, Revtex, postscript figures. Clan structure analysis and QCD parton showers in multiparticle dynamics. An intriguing dialog between theory and experiment

This paper contains a review of the main results of a search of regularities in collective variables properties in multiparticle dynamics, regularities which can be considered as manifestations of the original simplicity suggested by QCD. The method is based on a continuous dialog between experiment and theory. The paper follows the development of this research line, from its beginnings in the seventies to the current state of the art, discussing how it produced both sound interpretations of the most relevant experimental facts and intriguing perspectives for new physics signals in the TeV energy domain.Comment: 118 pages, 48 figures; table of contents fixed for hyperre
