Formation of singularities on the surface of a liquid metal in a strong electric field

The nonlinear dynamics of the free surface of an ideal conducting liquid in a strong external electric field is studied. It is establish that the equations of motion for such a liquid can be solved in the approximation in which the surface deviates from a plane by small angles. This makes it possible to show that on an initially smooth surface for almost any initial conditions points with an infinite curvature corresponding to branch points of the root type can form in a finite time.Comment: 14 page

Helicopter Fuselage Drag ─ Combined Computational Fluid Dynamics and Experimental Studies

    Get PDF
In this paper, wind tunnel experiments are combined with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) aiming to analyze the aerodynamics of realistic fuselage con¦gurations. A development model of the ANSAT aircraft and an early model of the AKTAI light helicopter were employed. Both models were tested at the subsonic wind tunnel of KNRTU-KAI for a range of Reynolds numbers and pitch and yaw angles. The force balance measurements were complemented by particle image velocimetry (PIV) investigations for the cases where the experimental force measurements showed substantial unsteadiness. The CFD results were found to be in fair agreement with the test data and revealed some §ow separation at the rear of the fuselages. Once con¦dence on the CFD method was established, further modi¦cations were introduced to the ANSAT-like fuselage model to demonstrate drag reduction via small shape changes

Creating a Database of Helicopter Main Rotor Acoustics for Validation of CFD Methods

    Get PDF
The work presents recent experiments at the Kazan National Technical University (KNRTU-KAI), related to helicopter acoustics. The objective is to provide a database of near-field experimental data suitable for CFD validation. The obtained set of data corresponds to a Mach-scaled rotor of known planform. An advantage of the current dataset is that direct near-field acoustic data is made available and this allows easy and direct comparisons with CFD predictions, without the need to use far-field aeroacoustic methods

Precise measurement of RudsR_{\text{uds}} and RR between 1.84 and 3.72 GeV at the KEDR detector

The present work continues a series of the KEDR measurements of the RR value that started in 2010 at the VEPP-4M e+e−e^+e^- collider. By combining new data with our previous results in this energy range we measured the values of RudsR_{\text{uds}} and RR at nine center-of-mass energies between 3.08 and 3.72 GeV. The total accuracy is about or better than 2.6%2.6\% at most of energy points with a systematic uncertainty of about 1.9%1.9\%. Together with the previous precise RR measurement at KEDR in the energy range 1.84-3.05 GeV, it constitutes the most detailed high-precision RR measurement near the charmonium production threshold.Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1610.02827 and substantial text overlap with arXiv:1510.0266

Testing of CP, CPT and causality violation with the light propagation in vacuum in presence of the uniform electric and magnetic fields

We have considered the structure of the fundamental symmetry violating part of the photon refractive index in vacuum in the presence of constant electric and magnetic fields. This part of the refractive index can, in principle, contain CPT symmetry breaking terms. Some of the terms violate Lorentz invariance, whereas the others violate locality and causality. Estimates of these effects, using laser experiments are considered.Comment: 12 page

Measurement of the ratio of the leptonic widths Γee/Γμμ\Gamma_{ee}/\Gamma_{\mu\mu} for the J/ψJ/\psi meson

    Get PDF
The ratio of the electron and muon widths of the J/ψJ/\psi meson has been measured using direct J/ψJ/\psi decays in the KEDR experiment at the VEPP-4M electron-positron collider. The result $\Gamma_{ee}(J/\psi)/\Gamma_{\mu\mu}(J/\psi)=1.0022\pm0.0044\pm0.0048\ (0.65\%)isingoodagreementwiththeleptonuniversality.Theexperiencecollectedduringthisanalysiswillbeusedfora is in good agreement with the lepton universality. The experience collected during this analysis will be used for a J/\psi$ lepton width determination with up to 1% accuracy.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures, 2 table
