    The photoluminescence of a microcrystalline layer of ZnO behaves in the presence of O2 and H2O adsorbed together in an opposite manner to that of the photoelectric effect. Quinone vapor may replace O 2. The observed phenomena are explained by a decrease of the recombination rate due to an electronic affinity of the adsorbed molecules
