Differential Geometry of Quantum States, Observables and Evolution

The geometrical description of Quantum Mechanics is reviewed and proposed as an alternative picture to the standard ones. Identification and Characterization of an Adeno-Associated Virus Integration Site in CV-1 Cells from the African Green Monkey

Adeno-associated virus (AAV) is a classification given to a group of nonpathogenic, single-stranded DNA viruses known to reside latently in primates. During latency in humans, AAV type 2 (AAV2) preferentially integrates at a site on chromosome 19q13.3ter by targeting a sequence composed of an AAV Rep binding element (RBE), a spacer, and a nicking site. Here, we report the DNA sequence of an African green monkey AAV integration site isolated from CV-1 cells. Overall, it has 98% homology to the analogous human site, including identical spacer and nicking sequences. However, the simian RBE is expanded, having five perfect directly repeated GAGC tetramers. We carried out a number of in vitro and in vivo assays to determine the effect of this expanded RBE sequence on the Rep-RBE interaction and AAV targeted integration. Using electromobility shift assays it was demonstrated that AAV4 Rep68 bound the expanded RBE with a sixfold-greater affinity than the human RBE. To determine the basis for the affinity increase, DNase I protection and methylation interference (MI) assays were performed. Comparison of footprints on both the human and simian RBEs revealed nearly identical protection; however, MI analysis suggested greater interaction with the guanine nucleotides of the expanded RBE, thus providing a biochemical basis for the increased binding activity. In vivo, integration targeted to the simian RBE was demonstrated by PCR analysis of latently infected Cos-7 cells. Interestingly, the frequency of site-specific integration was twofold greater in Cos-7 cells than in HeLa cells. Overall, these experiments establish that the simian RBE, identified in CV-1 cells, functions analogously to the human RBE and provide further evidence for a developing model that proposes individual roles for the RBE and the spacer and nicking site elements

Graphene on quartz modified with rhenium oxide as a semitransparent electrode for organic electronic

Our research shows that commercially available graphene on quartz modified with rhenium oxide meets the requirements for its use as a conductive and transparent anode in optoelectronic devices. The cluster growth of rhenium oxide enables an increase in the work function of graphene by 1.3 eV up to 5.2 eV, which guarantees an appropriate adjustment to the energy levels of the organic semiconductors used in OLED devices.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure

Modeling the decision processes in finance and innovation management

W artykule przedstawiamy wybrane zagadnienia z zakresu modelowania informacji finansowej i wspierania innowacji, które należą do obszaru zainteresowań badawczych Studenckiego Koła Naukowego Modelowania w Finansach przy Katedrze Automatyki AGH. Możliwość poddania swoich pomysłów innowacyjnych ocenie doświadczonych ekspertów-praktyków może pomóc studentom i pracownikom uczelni w wyborze strategii rozwoju własnych firm. Nowe podejście do oceny ryzyka innowacji w informatyce oparte na symulacji przyszłych przepływów pieniężnych i analizie opcji rzeczywistych przyczyni się do rozwoju odpowiedzialnej przedsiębiorczości. Przedstawimy też zestaw zaawansowanych narzędzi wyszukiwania sieciowego zintegrowanych z bibliograficznymi i patentowymi bazami danych. Ułatwiają one inteligentne filtrowanie informacji, a następnie ekstrakcję trendów technologicznych i wykorzystanie wiedzy przy wspomaganiu decyzji inwestycyjnych. Te badania uhonorowane zostały 1. nagrodą XLVIII Sesji Studenckich Kół Naukowych AGH w 2011 r. - Sekcja Przedsiębiorczości, Jakości, Zarządzania i Finansów.This paper shows the historical development and recent research results in financial information modelling and innovation support that has been carried out at the Financial Modelling Student Scientific Organisation affiliated at the Chair of Automatic Control, AGH University of Science and Technology. A new approach to the risk assessment of innovative IT investment can help students' start-ups as well as university spin-off and spin-outs to select an optimal investment strategy. Further, we present an automatic webcrawler that allows to supply updated bibliographic and patent information in real time. The latter contribution of the Organisation's members has been honored with the 1st price at the 2011'AGH University's student competition. The future plans and development prospects will also be presented

Strategic decision support methodology based on technological roadmapping

Artykuł poświęcony jest metodologii projektowania procesów i systemów wspomagania decyzji strategicznych, zwłaszcza dotyczących zagadnień technologii informatycznych. Przedstawiono propozycję wykorzystania w tym celu schematu tzw. roadmappingu technologicznego. Roadmapping wprowadzony został przez duże korporacje elektroniczne w USA w latach 70. ubiegłego wieku jako narzędzie planowania strategicznego wspomagającego decyzje inwestycyjne w zakresie badań i technologii. W artykule sformułowano typowe problemy decyzyjne, które mogą być rozwiązywane przy pomocy roadmappingu, w szczególności problem technologicznego planowania strategicznego w ujęciu umożliwiającym wykorzystanie prognoz technologicznych – wyniku badań foresightowych. W kontekście tych zastosowań pokazano ogólne zasady tworzenia diagramów roadmappingowych oraz procesu wspomagania decyzji strategicznych. W przedstawionym tu podejściu, roadmapping powiązany jest z detekcją i wyceną opcji rzeczywistych występujących w procesach wdrażania innowacji technologicznych, organizacyjnych i produktowych. W części końcowej zamieszczono przykład praktycznego wykorzystania roadmappingu do planowania rozwoju produkcji sprzętu komputerowego.Technological roadmapping is a complex business intelligence and strategic planning process. Computer implementations of roadmapping can be regarded as tools supporting decision and policy making. This paper shows how the recent development of web technologies and a public availability of foresight results have allowed to provide access to high-level technological roadmapping for innovative SMEs. We outline an implementation of the roadmapping process that may serve as an on-line interactive strategic planning and decision support system applying information technology foresight results. It may be used to solving IT investment planning problems and new product development and market placement problems (NPD-MP) in innovative companies. A web-based analytic machine that supports roadmapping is able to generate optimal technological investment strategies, visualised as multicriteria shortest paths in hypergraphs that model roadmapping diagrams. The system uses the integrated capacity offered by ontologies and semantic networks is a complex collaborative process of knowledge acquisition from heterogeneous information sources, its managing, sharing and processing. An example of the roadmapping process applied to develop a new computer based on IT foresight results will also be presented

Koncepcja wprowadzania tekstu przewidywanego poprzez wychylanie urządzenia mobilnego

In the paper authors are introducing the concept of usage of physical orientation of a mobile device, calculated using built-in environmental sensors like accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer for detection of tilting gesture. This gesture is used as an acceptance factor for the two next probable word solutions suggested to the user during text input. By performing the device tilt, the first or second word is being automatically put into the desired text field and new prediction is performed. The text predictions are calculated and stored directly on the device to maintain privacy protection. The founding concept of the software is being presented, as well as initial considerations and further plans. This solution is recommended especially to smartphone manufacturers like Microsoft, Samsung and Apple to deploy in their latest models.W artykule zaprezentowano koncepcję wykorzystania fizycznej orientacji urządzenia mobilnego, wyliczanej z wykorzystaniem wbudowanych czujników takich jak akcelerometr, żyroskop oraz kompas cyfrowy w celu wykrywania gestów wychylenia urządzenia. Taki gest wykorzystywany jest jako metoda akceptacji jednego z dwóch następnych prawdopodobnych słów podczas wprowadzania tekstu. Poprzez wykonanie gestu proponowane słowo jest automatycznie akceptowane i użytkownikowi prezentowana jest kolejna predykcja. Prawdopodobieństwa są wyliczane i przechowywane bezpośrednio na urządzeniu, w celu zapewnienia prywatności użytkownika. Podstawowa koncepcja oprogramowania jest zaprezentowana w artykule, jak również wstępne założenia i plany na przyszłość. Rozwiązanie jest szczególnie rekomendowane dla producentów smartfonów, jak firmy Microsoft, Samsung czy Apple, do wdrożenia w najnowszych modelach smartfonów

Taking advantage of foresight studies' outcomes to SUPPORT strategic decisions in Corporations

W ostatnich czterech latach w Polsce zrealizowano lub rozpoczęto realizację kilkudziesięciu projektów foresightu technologicznego lub regionalnego, finansowanych ze środków Programów Operacyjnych: Wzrost Konkurencyjności Przedsiębiorstw (okres realizacji 2005-2007) oraz Innowacyjna Gospodarka i Kapitał Ludzki (realizacja od 2008 r.). Wśród projektów branżowych, kilkanaście związanych jest bezpośrednio z technologiami chemicznymi lub z zagadnieniami ochrony środowiska w przemyśle chemicznym. W artykule wskazano możliwości wykorzystania wyników tych projektów, zwłaszcza scenariuszy i trendów technologicznych i rynkowych, przez przedsiębiorstwa chemiczne i inne zainteresowane instytucje w procesach planowania strategicznego, w szczególności w roadmappingu technologicznym.The implementation of foresight projects financed from the structural funds gives Polish enterprises a chance to apply their results in elaborating corporate strategies and master plans. Companies that use chemical technologies can benefit from the results of over ten projects carried out recently within the ERDF-financed Operational Programmes Increased Competitiveness of Enterprises (2005-2007) and Innovative Economy (since 2008). The results of these projects are provided usually in form of trends and scenarios related to technologies, markets and environmental issues. In this paper we will show how these results can be applied in strategic planning in the chemistry sector, in particular in technological and R&D roadmapping

Motion Vector Estimation of a Stereovision Camera with Inertial Sensors

The aim of the presented work was the development of a tracking algorithm for a stereoscopic camera setup equipped with an additional inertial sensor. The input of the algorithm consists of the image sequence, angular velocity and linear acceleration vectors measured by the inertial sensor. The main assumption of the project was fusion of data streams from both sources to obtain more accurate ego-motion estimation. An electronic module for recording the inertial sensor data was built. Inertial measurements allowed a coarse estimation of the image motion field that has reduced its search range by standard image-based methods. Continuous tracking of the camera motion has been achieved (including moments of image information loss). Results of the presented study are being implemented in a currently developed obstacle avoidance system for visually impaired pedestrians
