Color Non-Singlet Spectroscopy
Study of the spectrum and structure of color non-singlet combinations of
quarks and antiquarks, neutralized by a non-dynamical compensating color
source, may provide an interesting way to address questions about QCD that
cannot be addressed by experiment at the present time. These states can be
simulated in lattice QCD and the results can be used to improve
phenomenological models of hadrons. Here these ideas are applied to color
triplet states of qqqq and qq bar q.Comment: References added and typos correcte
Low-lying ud anti-s anti-s configurations in a non-relativistic constituent quark model
The energies of the low-lying isoscalar and isovector ud anti-s anti-s
configurations with spin-parity J^P=0^+, 1^+, and 2^+ are calculated in a
non-relativistic constituent quark model by use of the variational method. The
contributions of various parts of the quark-quark interacting potentials
including the s-channel interaction are investigated, and the effect of
different forms of confinement potential is examined. The model parameters are
determined by the same method as in our previous work, and they still can
satisfactorily describe the nucleon-nucleon scattering phase shifts and the
hyperon-nucleon cross sections. The parameters of the s-channel interaction are
fixed by the masses of K and K^* mesons, for which the size parameter is taken
to be two possible values. When it is chosen as the same as baryons', the
numerical results show that the masses of all the ud anti-s anti-s
configurations are higher than the corresponding meson-meson thresholds. But
when the size parameter for the K and K^* mesons is adjusted to be smaller than
that for the baryons, the ud anti-s anti-s configuration with I=0 and J^P=1^+
is found to lie lower than the K^*K^* threshold, furthermore, this state has a
very small KK^* component and the interaction matrix elements between this
state and KK^* is comparatively small, thus its coupling to the KK^* channel
will consequently be weak and it might be regarded as a possible tetraquark
candidate.Comment: 17 pages, 1 figur
Radiative Transitions in Charmonium from Lattice QCD
Radiative transitions between charmonium states offer an insight into the
internal structure of heavy-quark bound states within QCD. We compute, for the
first time within lattice QCD, the transition form-factors of various
multipolarities between the lightest few charmonium states. In addition, we
compute the experimentally unobservable, but physically interesting vector
form-factors of the and .
To this end we apply an ambitious combination of lattice techniques,
computing three-point functions with heavy domain wall fermions on an
anisotropic lattice within the quenched approximation. With an anisotropy
at we find a reasonable gross spectrum and a
hyperfine splitting , which compares favourably with
other improved actions.
In general, after extrapolation of lattice data at non-zero to the
photopoint, our results agree within errors with all well measured experimental
values. Furthermore, results are compared with the expectations of simple quark
models where we find that many features are in agreement; beyond this we
propose the possibility of constraining such models using our extracted values
of physically unobservable quantities such as the quadrupole moment.
We conclude that our methods are successful and propose to apply them to the
problem of radiative transitions involving hybrid mesons, with the eventual
goal of predicting hybrid meson photoproduction rates at the GlueX experiment.Comment: modified version as publishe
A search for J^{PC}=1^{-+} exotic mesons in the pi- pi- pi+ and pi- pi0 pi0 systems
A partial wave analysis (PWA) of the pi-pi-pi+ and pi-pi0pi0 systems produced
in the reaction pi- p -> (3pi)-p at 18 GeV/c was carried out using an isobar
model assumption. This analysis is based on 3.0M pi-pi0pi0 events and 2.6M
pi-pi-pi+ events and shows production of the a2(1320), pi2(1670) and \pi(1800)
mesons. An earlier analysis of 250K pi-pi-pi+ events from the same experiment
showed possible evidence for a J^{PC}=1^{-+}$ exotic meson with a mass of 1.6
GeV/c^2 decaying into rho pi. In this analysis of a higher statistics sample of
the (3pi)- system in two charged modes we find no evidence of an exotic meson.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, added comment about the negative reflectivity

Many pion decays of rho(770) and omega(782) mesons in chiral theory
The decays rho(770) to 4 pi and omega(782) to 5pi are considered in detail in
the approach based on the Weinberg Lagrangian obtained upon the nonlinear
realization of chiral symmetry, added with the term induced by the anomalous
Lagrangian of Wess and Zumino. The partial widths and excitation curves of the
decays rho^0 to 2 pi^+ 2 pi^-, pi^+ pi^- 2 pi^0, rho^{+-} to 2 pi^{+-} pi^{-+}
pi^0, rho^(+-} to pi^(+-} 3 pi^0 are evaluated for e^+e^- annihilation,
photoproduction and tau lepton decays. The results of calculations are compared
with the recent CMD-2 data on the decay rho^0 to 2 pi^+ 2 pi^- observed in
e^+e^- annihilation. The omega to 5 pi decay widths and excitation curves in
e^+e^- annihilation are obtained. The angular distributions for various
combinations of the final pions in the decays rho to 4 pi and omega to 5 pi are
written. The perspectives of the experimental study of the above decays in
e^+e^- annihilation, tau lepton decays and photoproduction are discussed.Comment: Revtex, 32 pages including 11 ps figures. Replaced to fit the version

The Evidence for a Pentaquark Signal and Kinematic Reflections
Several recent experiments have reported evidence for a narrow baryon
resonance with positive strangeness () at a mass of 1.54 GeV/.
Baryons with cannot be conventional states and the reports have
thus generated much theoretical speculation about the nature of possible
baryons, including a 5-quark, or pentaquark, interpretation. We show that
narrow enhancements in the effective mass spectrum can be generated as
kinematic reflections resulting from the decay of mesons, such as the
, the and the .Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
