Досліджено умови виникнення прямої та зворотної залежності між цими двома економічними показниками. За допомогою двохаргументної функції проведено аналіз процесів на конкурентному та монопсонічному ринках праці. Обґрунтованo доцільність та умови застосування екзогенного підвищення оплати праці шляхом підвищення мінімальної заробітної плати.A two-argument function of individual labor supply is considered. Real wage and unemployment rate are the arguments of this function. The conditions of arising of direct and opposite dependence between these two economic indicators are investigated. This function is used to analyze processes in a competitive and monopsonic labor market. The expediency and conditions for applying the exogenous increase in labor compensation by fixing minimal wage are substantiated

    Genotype-dependent N-glycosylation and newly exposed O-glycosylation affect plasmin-induced cleavage of histidine-rich glycoprotein (HRG)

    Histidine-rich glycoprotein (HRG) is an abundant plasma protein harboring at least three N-glycosylation sites. HRG integrates many biological processes, such as coagulation, antiangiogenic activity, and pathogen clearance. Importantly, HRG is known to exhibit five genetic variants with minor allele frequencies of more than 10%. Among them, Pro204Ser can induce a fourth N-glycosylation site (Asn202). Considerable efforts have been made to reveal the biological function of HRG, whereas data on HRG glycosylation are scarcer. To close this knowledge gap, we used C18-based LC–MS/MS to study the glycosylation characteristics of six HRG samples from different sources. We used endogenous HRG purified from human plasma and compared its glycosylation to that of the recombinant HRG produced in Chinese hamster ovary cells or human embryonic kidney 293 cells, targeting distinct genotypic isoforms. In endogenous plasma HRG, every N-glycosylation site was occupied predominantly with a sialylated diantennary complex–type glycan. In contrast, in the recombinant HRGs, all glycans showed different antennarities, sialylation, and core fucosylation, as well as the presence of oligomannose glycans, LacdiNAcs, and antennary fucosylation. Furthermore, we observed two previously unreported O-glycosylation sites in HRG on residues Thr273 and Thr274. These sites together showed more than 90% glycan occupancy in all HRG samples studied. To investigate the potential relevance of HRG glycosylation, we assessed the plasmin-induced cleavage of HRG under various conditions. These analyses revealed that the sialylation of the N- and O-glycans as well as the genotype-dependent N-glycosylation significantly influenced the kinetics and specificity of plasmin-induced cleavage of HRG

    Geographic and seasonal patterns and limits on the adaptive response to temperature of European Mytilus spp. and Macoma balthica populations

    Seasonal variations in seawater temperature require extensive metabolic acclimatization in cold-blooded organisms inhabiting the coastal waters of Europe. Given the energetic costs of acclimatization, differences in adaptive capacity to climatic conditions are to be expected among distinct populations of species that are distributed over a wide geographic range. We studied seasonal variations in the metabolic adjustments of two very common bivalve taxa at European scale. To this end we sampled 16 populations of Mytilus spp. and 10 Macoma balthica populations distributed from 39° to 69°N. The results from this large-scale comprehensive comparison demonstrated seasonal cycles in metabolic rates which were maximized during winter and springtime, and often reduced in the summer and autumn. Studying the sensitivity of metabolic rates to thermal variations, we found that a broad range of Q10 values occurred under relatively cold conditions. As habitat temperatures increased the range of Q10 narrowed, reaching a bottleneck in southern marginal populations during summer. For Mytilus spp., genetic-group-specific clines and limits on Q10 values were observed at temperatures corresponding to the maximum climatic conditions these geographic populations presently experience. Such specific limitations indicate differential thermal adaptation among these divergent groups. They may explain currently observed migrations in mussel distributions and invasions. Our results provide a practical framework for the thermal ecophysiology of bivalves, the assessment of environmental changes due to climate change and its impact on (and consequences for) aquaculture

    Effect of housing in an enriched environment on the size of the cerebral cortex in young and old rats

    To assess whether or not environmental changes may continue to affect measures relating to cortical size, the size of the cerebral cortex of young adult (7 to 8 months) and old (32 to 33 months) "standard" and "enriched" rats were compared. Enriched rats were housed in large cages during 10 weeks and had access to many different objects; age-matched controls remained in standard laboratory cages. Effects on the cerebral cortex were small; a significant increase in cortical thickness at one, albeit different, site in both age groups was observed. Significant correlations were not present between environmentally induced changes in sleep parameters (recorded in the same rats prior to the present experiment) and the small change in cortical size.
