Aspects of Neutrino Mass Matrices
After an Introduction briefly describing the rise and fall of the three-zero
texture of the Zee model, we discuss still-allowed two-zero textures for the
Majorana three-neutrino mass matrix. Finally, a model with two right-handed
neutrinos and two Dirac texture zeros is described (FGY model) which can relate
CP violation in leptogenesis to CP violation in long-baseline neutrino

Dynamics of a Heisenberg spin chain in the quantum critical regime: NMR experiment versus effective field theory
A comprehensive comparison between the magnetic field- and
temperature-dependent low frequency spin dynamics in the antiferromagnetic
spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain (AFHC) system copper pyrazine dinitrate, probed via
the 13C-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxation rate 1/T1, and the field
theoretical approach in the Luttinger liquid (LL) regime has been performed. We
have found a very good agreement between the experiment and theory in the
investigated temperature and field range. Our results demonstrate how strongly
the quantum critical point affects the spin dynamics of Heisenberg spin chain

A storage and access architecture for efficient query processing in spatial database systems
Due to the high complexity of objects and queries and also due to extremely
large data volumes, geographic database systems impose stringent requirements on their
storage and access architecture with respect to efficient query processing. Performance
improving concepts such as spatial storage and access structures, approximations, object
decompositions and multi-phase query processing have been suggested and analyzed as
single building blocks. In this paper, we describe a storage and access architecture which
is composed from the above building blocks in a modular fashion. Additionally, we incorporate
into our architecture a new ingredient, the scene organization, for efficiently
supporting set-oriented access of large-area region queries. An experimental performance
comparison demonstrates that the concept of scene organization leads to considerable
performance improvements for large-area region queries by a factor of up to 150
Isotope effect on superconductivity in Josephson coupled stripes in underdoped cuprates
Inelastic neutron scattering data for YBaCuO as well as for LaSrCuO indicate
incommensurate neutron scattering peaks with incommensuration away
from the point. can be replotted as a linear function of
the incommensuration for these materials. This linear relation implies that the
constant that relates these two quantities, one being the incommensuration
(momentum) and another being (energy), has the dimension of velocity
we denote : . We argue that this
experimentally derived relation can be obtained in a simple model of Josephson
coupled stripes. Within this framework we address the role of the isotope effect on the . We assume that the incommensuration is
set by the {\em doping} of the sample and is not sensitive to the oxygen
isotope given the fixed doping. We find therefore that the only parameter that
can change with O isotope substitution in the relation
is the velocity . We predict an oxygen isotope effect on and expect

Volatility term structures in commodity markets
In this study, we comprehensively examine the volatility term structures in commodity markets. We model state‐dependent spillovers in principal components (PCs) of the volatility term structures of different commodities, as well as that of the equity market. We detect strong economic links and a substantial interconnectedness of the volatility term structures of commodities. Accounting for intra‐commodity‐market spillovers significantly improves out‐of‐sample forecasts of the components of the volatility term structure. Spillovers following macroeconomic news announcements account for a large proportion of this forecast power. There thus seems to be substantial information transmission between different commodity markets
Bose-Einstein Correlations from Opaque Sources
Bose-Einstein correlations in relativistic heavy ion collisions are very
different for opaque sources than fortransparent ones. The Bose-Einstein radius
parameters measured in two-particle correlation functions depend sensitively on
the mean free path of the particles. In particular we find that the outward
radius for an opaque source is smaller than the sidewards radius for
sufficiently short duration of emission. A long duration of emission can
compensate the opacity reduction of the longitudinal radius parameter and
explain the experimental measurements of very similar side- and outward radius
