Leuchtendes Silizium - Grundlegende Untersuchungen zur Rolle der Siloxene. Phase II Abschlussbericht

The project was devoted to the study of the optical and electrical properties of Woehler Siloxene. In particular, the feasibility was investigated to use this material in light emitting diodes. Different preparation techniques were systematically applied and an exact chemically and structural analysis of Woehler Siloxenes was performed. The color of the luminescence light could be shifted from green to red by oxidation. Prolonged oxidation distroys the planar structure of siloxene and leads to a blue emission color. The electrical excitation of the luminescence by electrolytic contacts leads to an oxidation of the siloxenes and to an undesirable degradation of the luminescence. We did not succeed to generated electroluminescence by solid state contacts.
