Estimation of Photovoltaic Module Parameters based on Total Error Minimization of I-V Characteristic
Mathematical Modelling of photovoltaic (PV) modules is important for simulation and performance analysis of PV system. Therefore, an accurate parameters estimation is necessary. Single-diode and two-diode model are widely used to model the PV system. However, it required to determine several parameters such as series and shunt resistances that not provided in datasheet. The main goal of PV modelling technique is to obtain the accurate parameters to ensure the I-V characteristic is closed to the manufacturer datasheet. Previously, the maximum power error of calculated and datasheet value are considered as objective to be minimized for both models. This paper proposes the PV parameter estimation model based minimizing the total error of open circuit voltage (VOC), short circuit current (ISC) and maximum power (PMAX) where all these parameters are provided by the manufacturer. The performance of single-diode and two-diode models are tested on different type of PV modules using MATLAB. It found that the two-diode model obtained accurate parameters with smaller error compared to single-diode model. However, the simulation time is slightly higher than single-diode model due extra calculation required
A review of the corrosion behavior of metallic heritage structures and artifacts
Awareness about restoring and preserving historically important structures and artifacts is gradually growing in many parts of the world. These artifacts and structures represent the culture, tradition and past of a nation. They are often also a source of national income through tourist activities. Besides masonry and wood work, metallic forms and relics are a vital part of the heritage which needs to be conserved. Certain metals have been used significantly throughout history in the creation of objects and structures. However, metals are prone to decay over time, particularly decay through corrosion. The basic mechanisms of metal corrosion, the various types of corrosion and existing remedial solutions are reviewed in this paper. The most significant factor affecting metal corrosion was found to be the surrounding environment, especially in marine areas. Different remedial measures can be implemented on corroded metals according to their specific properties. Recommendations for further study are offered at the end of the paper
Understanding of stem education among chemistry teachers in district of Melaka Tengah
21st century system of education is very challenging since teachers are required to teach the students to solve STEM problems in various fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). This study was conducted to identify the chemistry teachers' understanding on the definition of STEM education and design the STEM teaching strategy according to their understanding. The study involved 20 chemistry teachers at eleven schools in the district of Malacca Tengah and qualitative research approach was adopted. The research design of this study was case study. Open-ended questions was the research instrument used to collect data. The data were analyzed by using thematic analysis. The findings indicated that six chemistry teachers gave the meaning of STEM education as an acronym of "STEM" and used the word of "integration" in defining STEM education. The results showed that there one of the respondents did not understand the definition of STEM education and unsure how to implement STEM education. The results also reported that nine chemistry teachers were unable to design a STEM teaching. The implication of this study is to provide awareness to teachers and students that STEM education is very important in shaping the 21st century teaching and learning process
Active learning using digital smart board to enhance primary school students learning
Digital smart board is one of interactive technology tools which has been used widely in schools to facilitate teaching and learning. Empirical evidence shows that digital smart board allows students to construct their knowledge while mastering more advanced thinking skills. Thus integration of digital smart board facilitates active learning, which is fundamental to mastery of skills. Active learning using smart board program is a program which integrates smart board in Data Handling so that primary school students can learn Data Handling concept actively and meaningfully. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify the effectiveness of active learning using smart board program to enhance primary school students' learning. Five experts in teaching Mathematics Education and thirty year five students were involved in this study. The students were selected based on purposive sampling. This study used both quantitative and qualitative research approach. A set of interview protocol and a set of questionnaire were used during the data collection phase. Findings from the questionnaire were analysed based on descriptive and inferential statistics by using Winsteps Version 3.72.3. In addition, thematic analysis was used to analyse the qualitative data. Findings from the study indicate that active learning using smart board program has the attributes which can effectively enhance primary school students' learning. It is hoped that the results from this study can contribute towards development of active learning strategies, methods or activities using smart board in order to enhance primary students' learning in school
