Fish Stupefying Plants Used by the Tribes of Nandurbar District.
The present paper deals with the identification of those plants which are used as natural toxins for capturing fishes from Nandurbar district of Maharashtra. Nandurbar district is tribal district, is rich in ethno biological diversity, its different tahasils have their own toxicant plants which can be used for capturing fishes. So this ethno biological survey was conducted in different tahasils of Nandurbar district viz Akkalkuwa, Dhadgaon, Shahada, Taloda, Nandurbar and Navapur. As fishes are the important source of protein for poor people living near the banks of rivers, they use few plants which are natural toxicants for fishes and capture the fishes. During this study, a number of toxicant plants are identified with the help of the people living near the river and dams. The general information related to vernacular name of the plant in different tahasil and plant parts used, have been identified by elders and knowledgeable people. Plants are identified taxonomically with the help of Botanist of Jijamata Education Societyâs, Department of Botany For UG, PG and Research, Arts, Science and Commerce College, Nandurbar, Maharashtra. Extensive literature was also consulted for identification
The Cosmology of Massless String Modes
We consider the spacetime dynamics of a gas of closed strings in the context
of General Relativity in a background of arbitrary spatial dimensions. Our
motivation is primarily late time String Gas Cosmology, where such a spacetime
picture has to emerge after the dilaton has stabilized. We find that after
accounting for the thermodynamics of a gas of strings, only string modes which
are massless at the self-dual radius are relevant, and that they lead to a
dynamics which is qualitatively different from that induced by the modes
usually considered in the literature. In the context of an ansatz with three
large spatial dimensions and an arbitrary number of small extra dimensions, we
obtain isotropic stabilization of these extra dimensions at the self-dual
radius. This stabilization occurs for fixed dilaton, and is induced by the
special string states we focus on. The three large dimensions undergo a regular
Friedmann-Robertson-Walker expansion. We also show that this framework for
late-time cosmology is consistent with observational bounds.Comment: 15 pages, no figures, references added (again
Malignancy within a tail gut cyst:a case of retrorectal carcinoid tumour
Purpose. Tailgut cysts with malignant transformation are rare entities. We discuss the diagnostic strategy and treatment of a malignancy within a tailgut cyst. Methods. In this study we report on the case of a 61-year-old man with a malignant neuroendocrine tumour arising within a tailgut cyst and an overview of the literature emphasising the histopathological characteristics and differential diagnosis. Results. Our patient presented with lower back pain, rectal pain, and increased urgency of defecation. MRI scan and CT-guided biopsy on histological analysis revealed a diagnosis of carcinoid tumour of the presacral space. The patient subsequently underwent an abdominoperineal excision of the rectum. Conclusions. This case highlights the importance of tailgut cysts as a differential diagnosis of presacral masses. It is a rare congenital lesion developing from remnants of the embryonic postanal gut and is predominantly benign in nature. Approximately half of cases remain asymptomatic; therefore, diagnosis is often delayed. Magnetic resonance imaging is the investigation of choice and an awareness of the possibility of malignant potential is critical to avoiding missed diagnosis and subsequent morbidity. Complete surgical excision allows accurate diagnosis, confirmation of oncological clearance, and prevention of mortality
Two phase detonation studies
An experimental study of the passage of a shock wave over a burning fuel drop is described. This includes high speed framing photographs of the interaction taken at 500,000 frames per second. A theoretical prediction of the ignition of a fuel drop by a shock wave is presented and the results compared with earlier experimental work. Experimental attempts to generate a detonation in a liquid fuel drop (kerosene)-liquid oxidizer drop (hydrogen peroxide)-inert gas-environment are described. An appendix is included which gives the analytical prediction of power requirements for the drop generator to produce certain size drops at a certain mass rate. A bibliography is also included which lists all of the publications resulting from this research grant
Direct to consumer advertising via the Internet, a study of hip resurfacing
With increased use of the internet for health information and direct to consumer advertising from medical companies, there is a concern about the quality of the information available for patients. The aim of this study was to examine the quality of health information on the internet for hip resurfacing. An assessment tool was designed to measure quality of information. Websites were measured on credibility of source; usability; currentness of the information; content relevance; content accuracy/completeness and disclosure/bias. Each website assessed was given a total score, based on number of scores achieved from the above categories websites were further analysed on author, geographical origin and possession of an independent credibility check. There was positive correlation between the overall score for the website and the score of each website in each assessment category. Websites by implant companies, doctors and hospitals scored poorly. Websites with an independent credibility check such as Health on the Net (HoN) scored twice the total scores of websites without. Like other internet health websites, the quality of information on hip resurfacing websites is variable. This study highlights methods by which to assess the quality of health information on the internet and advocates that patients should look for a statement of an "independent credibility check" when searching for information on hip resurfacing

The work of Paulo Freire is associated with themes of oppression and liberation, and his critical pedagogy is visionary in its attempts to bring about social transformation. Freire has created a theory of education that embeds these issues within social relations that center around both ideological and material domination. In this review essay, Sue Jackson explores three books: Freireâs final work Pedagogy of Indignation; Cesar Augusto Rossattoâs Engaging Paulo Freireâs Pedagogy of Possibility, which attempts to engage Freireâs pedagogy of possibility; and C.A. Bowers and Frederique Apffel-Marglinâs edited collection Re-thinking Freire, which asks readers to reconsider Freireâs work in light of globalization and environmental crises. Jackson questions the extent to which Freireâs pedagogical approaches are useful to educators as well as to âthe oppressed,â and whether challenges to re-think Freire can lead to new kinds of critical pedagogies
Thermodynamics of Micellization of Nonionic Surfactant Tween-40 in Presence of Additive Chloramine-T Using Clouding Phenomenon
The phenomenon of solubilization of nonionic surfactant Tween-40 has been studied through the influence of additive chloramine-T in aqueous medium by measuring the cloud points (CP) of the pure surfactant and with chloramine-T. The CP of pure surfactant was found to be increased with increasing concentration of Tween-40. The CP of mixed system shows increasing trends with increased chloramine-T. This is mainly due to increased micelle concentrations. The influence of chloramine-T on the cloud point of Tween-40 is a clear indication that the phenomenon of clouding is associated with the different micelles coalescing. Considering cloud point as threshold temperature of the solubility, the thermodynamic parameters of clouding process (ÎG0cl, ÎH0cl and ÎS0cl) have been evaluated using âPhase Separation Modelâ. The phase separation results from micelle-micelle interaction. It was found that the overall clouding process was exothermic and ÎH0cl > TÎS0cl indicating that the process of clouding was guided by both enthalpy and entropy. This work supports the conjecture that the clouding is critical phenomenon rather than the growth of micelles. Findings of the present work supports to made the probable evidence of electrolyte-surfactant interactions in aqueous medium
Studies on pollen morphology of Ipomoea species (Convolvulaceae)
Pollen morphology of four species of Ipomoea viz., Ipomoea fistulosa (Mart. exChoisy), I. palmata Forssk, I. quamoclit L. and I. triloba L. (Convolvulaceae) from Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University Campus have been examined by Light and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Pollen grains are usually pantoporate, radially symmetrical ,circular in outline, tectum echinate, circular aperture between the spine, suboblate-oblate spheroidal or spheroidal. Among the four species of Ipomoea maximum pollen size(97.39-100.86ĂĹ˝ĂÂźm) across was found in I. quamoclit whereas, minimum pollen size (59.17-65.75 ĂĹ˝ĂÂźm) across was noted in I. palmata. The maximum spine length (8-14ĂĹ˝ĂÂźm) was recorded in I. palmata, while it was minimum (4.99-7.33ĂĹ˝ĂÂźm) in I. triloba. Considering pore size all four species of Ipomoea showed close similarities with minor differences. Sculpturing pattern was found to be uniform in all studied species of Ipomoea
D0 Matrix Mechanics: New Fuzzy Solutions at Large N
We wish to consider in this report the large N limit of a particular matrix
model introduced by Myers describing D-brane physics in the presence of an RR
flux background. At finite N, fuzzy spheres appear naturally as non-trivial
solutions to this matrix model and have been extensively studied. In this
report, we wish to demonstrate several new classes of solutions which appear in
the large N limit, corresponding to the fuzzy cylinder,the fuzzy plane and a
warped fuzzy plane. The latter two solutions arise from a possible "central
extension" to our model that arises after we account for non-trivial issues
involved in the large N limit. As is the case for finite N, these new solutions
are to be interpreted as constituent D0-branes forming D2 bound states
