Thesis (M.Sc.D.)--Boston University. Henry M. Goldman School of Graduate Dentistry, 1990 (Public Health Dentistry)Bibliography: leaves 39-40.The objective of this study was to determine and compare the dental care utilization of 37,000 New England employees, insured by Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield and Metropolitan Life insurance companies under dual option, preferred Provider ( Closed) Plan and Open Plan. This investigation was carried out by a random selection of 5,000 records of insurees. Comprehensive statistical analysis was performed to evaluate dental services provided through both dental insurance plans. Dental services were broken down by the ADA Procedure Code classification and service mix statistically examined in relation to Plan type ( Open, Closed), claim administrator (Empire, MetLife) and eligibility type (Employee, Spouse and Dependent). This sample comprised of members (employees), their spouse and dependents who, overall, formed a group of 2064 (41.3%) males and 2936 (58.7%) females. Of the total 5000 dental claims filed 1929 (38.6%) were through the Open Plan and 3071 (61.4%) through the Closed Plan. Specifically, for each dental procedure claims were counted with either Plan type

Thesis (D.Sc.D.)--Boston University, Henry M. Goldman School of Graduate Dentistry, 1992 (Public Health Dentistry)Includes bibliography (leaves [35-38]Dental insurance is a fringe benefit provided by employers. It originally came into existence around 1920's. However, the last two decades is considered the years of the growth of dental insurance in society. This indicates dramatic increase of enrollment for such benefits and ultimately higher dental expenditure as well. In spite of popularity of dental insurance, there is still a debate about its function. The argument touches basically upon the issue of quality of dental service raised by all parties - patients, dentists, insurance carriers. This calls for more attention and involvement of government agencies who regulate insurance and pay for services. Today a variety of dental health plans are marketed by insurance carriers. Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) and Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs) are the plans that have grown the most among others. Capitation is another new dental plan option which perhaps will absorb more market share in the future. "Dental Health Plan" is a benefit provided by Boston University, which is adopted from PPO type option. It offers employees premiums for "Individual" and "Family" participants

Goldman School of Graduate Dentistry, 1990 (Pediatric Dentistry)Bibliography: leaves 41-44.For years, it has been taught in dental schools that the mesiodistal width of lower primary molars in flush terminal plane type of occlusion are larger than of those in mesial step molar relationship. It has been proven that approximately in two thirds of cases, permanent occlusion can be predicted from molar relationship in primary dentition. This is an emphasis to the fact that primary molars potentially play an important role in establishment of molar relationship in the permanent dentition. Some investigators have shown that there are other factors that influence in determination of molar relationship. Growth of dental arches and path of eruption of tooth are the examples of those parameters that should be taken into consideration. For the purpose of this study, 25 patients were selected who only exhibited primary dentition, contributing 50 cases to this investigation. Each patient was evaluated as two cases of right and left side of the mouth if presented mesial step or flush terminal plane relationship. This study was performed to compare the mesiodistal size of upper and lower primary second molars in flush terminal plane cases with those in mesial step type of molar relationship. This comparison was made by measuring the anteroposterior size of the primary second molars of the above two samples of dental occlusion. The measures were obtained by a boley guage on the dental casts of maxillary and mandibular arches. Findings of this investigation indicate that a larger mesiodistal width of primary second molar exists in flush terminal plane relationship than in mesial step

Abstract Objective The socioeconomic status (SES) is as a symbol of social determinants of health which has a dominant influence on population health. The purpose of this study was collecting, weighing, and determining the most relevant SES measurement items in Iran. Results The SES health studies conducted in Iran was searched from 2007 to 2017. First, the SES items were categorized. Then, each item was weighed based on its reliability and generalizability. Finally, the necessity of items was determined, weighed, and ranked. This is the two-round Delphi technique. After weighing 57 SES items, 37 items were selected with ≥ 1 weight and classified in 7 categories. According to the Delphi evaluation, 15 items were identified ≥ 3.5 for measuring SES of Iranian households: household size, head of household education, head of household job, household monthly income, type of school that children attend, house ownership, local value of residence, number of rooms in the house, house area, personal computer/laptop, smart cell phone, 3D TV, dishwasher, microwave, and car ownership. The SES items for the present society are categorized in 7 domains. The items collected in this study have the most comprehension of all studies related to income, life facilities, and assets
