Background. Coriandrum sativum L. is a valuable vegetable crop with early maturity and high nutritional benefits. Green biomass of coriander is rich in vitamins, especially ascorbic acid and carotene. The feasibility of using coriander as a natural food additive is due to its high antioxidant activity. The aim of this research was to study the biochemical composition of the green biomass in the accessions of C. sativum from the VIR global collection and identify promising accessions for use in breeding for quality.Materials and methods. The green biomass of 67 coriander accessions from different countries maintained in the VIR collection served as the research material. The study was carried out according to the guidelines developed by VIR.Results. As a result of the study, the feasibility of using C. sativum as a source of bioactive compounds was theoretically justified and experimentally confirmed, thus attesting to the prospects of coriander accessions from the VIR collection for quality-targeted breeding programs. New data were obtained on the biochemical composition of coriander green biomass. A factor determining such biochemical composition is the genotypic features of coriander associated with its origin. Biochemical parameters in coriander varied significantly depending on the origin of an accession. The highest variability was observed in the content of carotenes (CV 41%). The effect of an accession’s precocity was not confirmed. Sources for individual quality indicators were highlighted.Conclusion. Accessions with an optimal component composition for a balanced human diet were identified and recommended for quality-oriented breeding, including the development of cultivars for health-friendly, curative and preventive nutrition. The selected accessions are of interest as source material for breeding programs and practical utilization

Background. Effects of statins on cardiovascular end points are well-known. To study the impact of statins on structural and functional heart remodeling in patients with arterial hypertension (HT) seemsto be topical.Aim. To study the effect of statins on cardiac remodeling in patients with HT.Materials and methods. 120 patients with HT of 1 degree were included into the study: 56 men, 64 women, aged 52.4±10.23. Patients were randomized into 4 treatment groups: Group A1 (angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors + diet), group A2 (ACE inhibitor + fluvastatin), group B1 (angiotensin II receptor antagonist (ARA II) + diet), group B2 (ARAII + fluvastatin). Transthoracic echocardiography with calculation of standard left ventricle (LV) remodeling indices was performed.Results. The most important prognostic markers of LV remodeling were revealed. They were a basis for definition of 3 types of early LV remodeling: type 1 — compensated, type 2 — adaptive, 3 type — maladaptive. After 6 months of treatment a number of patients in group A1 with type 2 and type 3 of LV remodeling reduced less (2%, p=0.02 and 4%, p=0.04, respectively) than this in group A2 (14%, p=0.04) and 4%, p=0.04, respectively). A number of patients with type 1 (compensated) of LV remodeling increased by 18% (p<0.001) in group A2, and by 6%, (p=0.03) in group A1. After the treatment a number of patients with type 3 and type 2 of LV remodeling decreased (p<0.001 and p=0.04, respectively) in groups B1 and B2 while a number of patients with type 1 of LV remodeling increased (p<0,001). A number of patients with type 1 of LV remodeling increased and this with type 3 of LV remodeling decreased in group B2 more prominently in comparison with group A2 (p=0.03; p=0.01, respectively).Conclusion. Statins in patients with HT have cardioprotective effect that does not depend on basic antihypertensive therapy and total cholesterol level. In these patients combination of statins with ARA II has better cardioprotective effect than this with ACE inhibitors

A hardened gelatin gel deposited on a transparent polymeric matrix is of interest for the development of highly sensitive methods which combine concentration and subsequent determination of the analyte in the solid phase. For visual test for determination of lead (II) commercial photographic film with immobilized indikator bromopyrogallol red is proposed to use. The optimal conditions for the immobilization of the reagent and the metal complex in the film are determined. The composition and stability of the indicator reaction products are evaluated in solution and heterogeneous water / gelatin film. On the basis of these studies the technique of visual test determination of lead, based on the formation of complex compounds of Pb (II) c bromopyrogallol red in the medium hardened gelatin gel are found. Metrological characteristics of the proposed method of visual test determination of Pb (II) with the use of the indicator film are developed. Correctness of the methodology for determination of lead was tested on model solutions and real objects. Keywords: bromopyrogallol red, lead (II), the indicator gelatin film, immobilization, visual colorimetry.(Russian)DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15826/analitika.2014.18.3.009 P.V Anisimovich1, Z.A Temerdashev1, T.B Pochinok1, E.A. Recently, the trend of using fruit and berry crops as ingredients for functional and dietary nutrition, the development and implementation of flavors, pigments, new medicines and dietary supplements has been actualized. Because the direction of use depends on the biochemical properties of fruits, which are determined not only by species and varietal characteristics, but also by reproduction conditions, the study of the biochemical composition of fruits grown in various regions of the world continues to be relevant. In this regard, the collection of N.I. Vavilov Institute (VIR), which has a wide diversity of fruit and berry crops, is of great interest for study. Ribes nigrum fruits have a balanced set of sugars, organic acids, essential oils, microelements, a high content of vitamins, anthocyanins, pectins. Lonicera caerulea fruits are characterized by high values of phenolic substances: bioflavonoids, hydroxycinnamic acids, flavonols, polyphenols, anthocyanins, as well as vitamins, carotenoids, iridoid glycosides and other natural antioxidants. The investigation of L. caerulea and R. nigrum fruit’s accessions from the VIR collection using gas-liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry allows us to obtain new information about the biochemical characteristics of fruits, to identify L. caerulea and R. nigrum varieties with optimal economically valuable characteristics, to determine the specificity of L. caerulea and R. nigrum metabolomic spectra in the setting of Northwest Russia. As a result of the analysis, typical compounds of the metabolomic profile of each culture were identified. Organic acids, phenol-containing compounds and polyols prevailed in L. caerulea, while mono- and oligosaccharides, in R. nigrum. The qualitative composition of the black currant varieties ‘Malen’kii Printz’, ‘Dobriyi Dzhinn’, ‘Tisel’, ‘Orlovskii Val’s’, and blue honeysuckle ‘S 322-4’, ‘Malvina’, ‘Leningradsky Velikan’ was optimal for food consumption; the varieties of blue honeysuckle ‘Bazhovskaya’ and black currant ‘Aleander’ had a good representation of biologically active compounds, which makes samples attractive as raw materials for the production of biologically active additives, including with the use of microorganisms’ cultures
