    History of the Hall Thrusters Development in USSR

    Abstract: As it is well known two types of the so-called "Hall Thrusters" had been developed in USSR, namely: the stationary plasma thrusters (SPT) and thrusters with anode layer (TAL). In the SPT and TAL the ions acceleration by an electric field within the gas were designed, created and tested. They were able to operate with gaseous propellants (Xe, Kr, Ar) within the discharge voltage range of (100-600) V and discharge powers (1-5) kW with thrust efficiency till 40% and specific impulses (1000-1800) s. Obtained performance level was estimated as prospective enough because it was higher than that one of the other EP types within the mentioned range of specific impulses.     Role of genetic research in the prevention of life-threatening rhythm and cardiac conduction disorders in young people

    According to epidemiological studies, in Russia there is a tendency towards an increase in sudden cardiac death (SCD), including among young workingage people. The leading mechanism for SCD in young patients, including those with undifferentiated connective tissue disease, is recognized as rhythm and conduction disorders. At the same time, the most tragic cases are the first and only manifestation of SCD in children and young people without structural heart disease. The article presents a brief analysis of the genetic causes of life-threatening rhythm and conduction disorders in young people, as well as a generalization of the modern possibilities of a personalized diagnostic approach from the standpoint of early cardiovascular prevention. Timely genetic diagnosis of SCD risk makes it possible to identify a predisposition to the development of a fatal event long before its occurrence, which contributes to the timely implementation of preventive measures within a high cardiovascular risk strategy and secondary prevention, maintaining working capacity, creative and social activity of young patients, and improving the quality of life

    High Power Electric Propulsion: MARS plus EUROPA – Already Beyond 2025!

    It’s mid-term realization plus global strategic investments: the results of the European Russian DEMOCRITOS project (Horizon 2020) related to the MW class INPPS (International Nuclear Power and Propulsion System) flagship will be described. INPPS flagship includes high power electric thrusters cluster, supplied electric power by the nuclear reactor (successfully tested in Russia) and a solar power ring. Two INPPS versions were studied – the wide and arrow wing versions. Both versions have a futuristic design with standardized interfaces for several flagship subsystems. Especially the high payload mass of INPPS allows the transport of – for example – up to 12 t to JUPITER moon EUROPA and about 18 t to MARS – as a function of specific impulse of electric thrusters. INPPS flagship not only allows scientific, but especially commercial and communication payloads as well. This means industrial-scale production of space flight systems for robotic and human space exploration. International cooperation related to INPPS realization are necessary within an International High Power Space Transportation program to realize the DEMOCRITOS core, ground and space components until 2025. DEMOCRITOS project included partners from Europe, Russia and a Brazilian guest observer and received several inputs from NASA Cleveland and JAXA Tokyo
