    Improved α4\alpha^4 Term of the Muon Anomalous Magnetic Moment

    We have completed the evaluation of all mass-dependent α4\alpha^4 QED contributions to the muon g−2g-2, or aμa_\mu, in two or more different formulations. Their numerical values have been greatly improved by an extensive computer calculation. The new value of the dominant α4\alpha^4 term A2(8)(mμ/me)A_2^{(8)} (m_\mu / m_e) is 132.6823 (72), which supersedes the old value 127.50 (41). The new value of the three-mass term A3(8)(mμ/me,mμ/mτ)A_3^{(8)} (m_\mu / m_e, m_\mu / m_\tau) is 0.0376 (1). The term A2(8)(mμ/mτ)A_2^{(8)} (m_\mu / m_\tau) is crudely estimated to be about 0.005 and may be ignored for now. The total QED contribution to aμa_\mu is 116584719.58(0.02)(1.15)(0.85)×10−11116 584 719.58 (0.02)(1.15)(0.85) \times 10^{-11}, where 0.02 and 1.15 are uncertainties in the α4\alpha^4 and α5\alpha^5 terms and 0.85 is from the uncertainty in α\alpha measured by atom interferometry. This raises the Standard Model prediction by 13.9×10−1113.9 \times 10^{-11}, or about 1/5 of the measurement uncertainty of aμa_\mu. It is within the noise of current uncertainty (∼100×10−11\sim 100 \times 10^{-11}) in the estimated hadronic contributions to aμa_\mu.Comment: Appendix A has been rewritten extensively.     Reconsidered estimates of the 10th order QED contributions to the muon anomaly

    The problem of estimating the 10th order QED corrections to the muon anomalous magnetic moment is reconsidered. The incorporation of the recently improved contributions to the α4\alpha^4 and α5\alpha^5- corrections to aμa_{\mu} within the renormalization-group inspired scheme-invariant approach leads to the estimate aμ(10)≈643(α/pi)5a_{\mu}^{(10)}\approx 643(\alpha/pi)^5. It is in good agreement with the estimate aμ(10)=663(20)(α/π)5a_{\mu}^{(10)}= 663(20) (\alpha/\pi)^5, obtained by Kinoshita and Nio from the numerical calculations of 2958 10-th order diagrams, which are considered to be more important than the still uncalculated 6122 10th-order mμ/mem_{\mu}/m_e-dependent vertex graphs, and 12672 5-loop diagrams, responsible for the mass-independent constant contribution both to aμa_{\mu} and aea_e. This confirms Kinoshita and Nio guess about dominance of the 10-th order diagrams calculated by them. Comparisons with other estimates of the α5\alpha^5- contributions to aμa_{\mu}, which exist in the literature, are presented.Comment: 19 pages, LaTeX, some misprints in the text and literature corrected.     Complete Result for Positronium Energy Levels at Order alpha^6 m

    We have completed theoretical predictions for positronium energy levels through order alpha^6 m by the calculation of the spin independent, radiative recoil correction. This contribution is significant and amounts to 10.64 MHz for the 1S state.
