On the basis of the results of measurements of body mass and height, carried out over the period of 2002-2003 on a population o f4845 boys and 4860 girls, their body mass index (BMI) was calculated. The authors propose BMI standards for the population in question
The technological research progress of amine-based CO2
W artykule przedstawiono postęp prac w ramach realizacji Programu Strategicznego w obszarze procesów usuwania CO2 ze spalin bloków węglowych - wyniki pierwszych w kraju testów wychwytu CO2 z rzeczywistych spalin, potwierdzające możliwość pracy instalacji z wysoką sprawnością separacji CO2 powyżej 85%.Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology is one of the key ways to reconcile the rising demand for fossil fuels with the need to reduce C02 emissions. Globally, CCS is likely to be a necessity in order to meet the European Union's greenhouse gas reduction targets. Post-combustion processes like amine-based chemical absorption of C02 are ideally suitable for conventional power plants. However, there still are only a few facilities worldwide in which this technology is actively
employed, and the demonstration phase of CCS technology requires more extensive implementation under practical conditions.
The Institute for Chemical Processing of Coal in Zabrze started post-combustion CO2 capture R&D in 2007. The first pilot tests of CO2 capture from coal-fired flue gas in Poland are carried out in cooperation with TAURON Polska Energia and Tauron Wytwarzanie as a result of the Strategic Research Programme "Development of a technology for highly efficient zero-emission coal-fired power units integrated with CO2 capture". This paper presents bench-scale and pilot testing data of CO2 removal by MEA-based chemical solvents. The achieved efficiency of CO2 separation in this analysis was above 85%, and energy demand of the sorbent regeneration process was in the range of 4.8-7.5 MJ/kg CO2, as with other available first generation Carbon Capture Technologies

Puberty of girls in Lubuskie voivodeship in the context of selected environmental and social factors
statystycznie istotnej;
– córki ojców z wykształceniem wyższym, przy zróżnicowaniu statystycznie istotnym, w odniesieniu
do córek ojców z wykształceniem najniższym;
– córki matek z wykształceniem wyższym;
– córki ojców i matek będących pracownikami umysłowymi;
– pierworodne, przy zróżnicowaniu statystycznie istotnych, względem urodzonych z trzeciej
i dalszych ciąż;
– jedynaczki (dojrzewały najwcześniej, a różnicę statystycznie istotną odnotowano między nimi
a dziewczętami z rodzin wielodzietnych).
Czynnikami dużej mocy, w sposób statystycznie istotny decydującymi o wcześniejszym dojrzewaniu
dziewcząt, okazały się wyłącznie: środowisko zamieszkania, wykształcenie ojców, kolejność
urodzenia i liczba dzieci w rodzinie.
The aim of the study is to evaluate the impact of selected social and environmental factors on
girls’ puberty. The study was conducted on the group of 3855 girls residing in lubuskie
voivodeship, aged 10–16. The material was collected in 2015–2016 by the employees of the University
of Zielona Gora The diagnostic survey was used in the study as a research method. As a research
tool a questionnaire containing retrospective questions was applied.
The collected material was analyzed statistically calculating the arithmetic means of the studied
traits, standard deviation, minimum-maximum, coefficient of variation and the level of significance
of differences.
The detailed analysis of the material shows that on average the girls who mature early are those:
– who live in small and medium towns in relation to the girls living in rural areas with a statistically
significant difference;
– whose fathers have higher education with a statistically significant difference in relation to the
daughters of fathers with the lowest education;
– whose mothers have higher education;
– whose fathers and mothers are white-collar workers;
– who were first-born children with a statistically significant difference in relation to girls born as
third or subsequent children;
– who are only children; only children matured the earliest and a statistically significant difference
was observed between them and the girls from large families.
Residential environment, father’s education, birth order and number of children in the family
proved to be powerful factors that are statistically significant determinants of girls’ early puberty.
Over the last 15 years, the age of menarche has lowered, which proves that environmental conditions
(especially nutrition and hygiene) of our society has improved significantly

Operational experiences of different scale Carbon Capture plants
do środowiska.
(CCS – Carbon Capture and Sequestration). W artykule przedstawiono postęp prac nad procesem
usuwania CO2 ze spalin bloków węglowych, realizowanych w ramach Strategicznego Programu
Badawczego „Zaawansowane technologie pozyskiwania energii: Opracowanie technologii dla
wysoko sprawnych „zero-emisyjnych” bloków węglowych zintegrowanych z wychwytem CO2 ze
spalin”. Przedstawiono doświadczenia zespołu realizującego badania procesu wychwytu CO2 na
instalacjach w skali laboratoryjnej, półtechnicznej i pilotowej. Zaprezentowano wyniki testów
procesu wychwytu CO2 ze spalin z zastosowaniem instalacji pilotowej aminowego usuwania CO2
o wydajności 1 t CO2/d. W ramach realizowanych badań pilotowych prowadzonych w Elektrowni
instalacji pilotowej. Potwierdzono wysoką sprawność procesu wychwytu CO2
z zastosowaniem absorpcji chemicznej w roztworze MEA przekraczającą 90% oraz możliwość
obniżenia zużycia ciepła w procesie regeneracji sorbentu poprzez integrację cieplną obiegów
w obszarze instalacji wychwytu CO2.EU’s climate policy is focused on the reduction of harmful emissions. The energy sector put a great
emphasis on the reductionof emissions of sulfur oxides SOx, nitrogen oxides NOx, carbon monoxide CO,
particulates and carbon dioxide CO2 . Mitigation of CO2 emissions is the challenge of the power sector,
because just under 80% of the electricity generated in Poland is powered by coal-fired power plants.
Technologies reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including technologies, CO2 capture and storage
(CCS – Carbon Capture and Sequestration), are becoming increasingly important, according to the
introduction of CO2 emissions trading system – EU ETS. The Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)
technology is one of the key ways to reconcile the rising demand for fossil fuels, with the need to reduce
CO2 emissions. Globally CCS is likely to be a necessity in order to meet the Union’s greenhouse gas
reduction targets Post-combustion process like amine based chemical absorption CO2 is ideally suitable
for conventional power plants. There are still only a few facilities worldwide in which this technology is
actively being practiced and the demonstration phase of CCS technology needs more activity – the biggest
one in Europe have 280 t CO2 /d yield and is located in Mongstad in Norway.
This paper presents the progress of the CO2 capture from the flue gas research implemented within the
framework of the Strategic Research Programme “ Advanced technologies for energy generation: Development
of a technology for highly efficient zero-emission coal-fired power unitswith integrated CO2 capture”. Some of the experience of the researchers performing CO2 capture plants on a laboratory,
semi-technical and pilot scale are presented. First pilot tests of CO2 capture from coal- fired flue gas in
Poland were carried out in cooperation with TAURON Polska Energia and Tauron Wytwarzanie, at
Laziska Power Plant for six months of 2013 year. The Pilot Plant was connected to the hard coal-fired
boiler. The plant is able to receive about 200m3/h of real flue gas that contains different types of pollutants
such as SOx, NOx and particles.
The Pilot Plant consists of flue gas pre-treatment unit – deep desulfurization, and CO2 capture unit –
consist of absorber and desorber columns. The Pilot Plant operates 24 h per day, 5 days per week. Because
the CO2 concentration in flue gas to be treated consequently fluctuates round the clock operation allows
for extended evaluation of the solvent, and capture process efficiency on real work parameters of the
boiler. Over 500 h, 81 tests and more than 20 t of separated CO2 were achieved during the operation with
30 wt% MEA (monoethanolamine). The unique design of the Pilot Plant allowed for the evaluation of
various process modifications. Process modifications such as split stream and heat recuperation had been
evaluated with the plant. The effect of heat recovery – recuperation can easily be seen in Fig.5. Achieved
efficiency of CO2 separation was above 85% and the lowest noticed energy demand of sorbent regeneration
was 3,6 MJ/kg CO2 – for MEA as a sorbent, and heat recuperation evaluated – Fig. 3. Those
power required for regeneration comprise the energy requirements of the process subsequently determining
the operating and maintenance costs – about 50–60% of OPEX.
The main noticed operational problem of the CO2 capture plants was corrosion of the some devices,
that means how important is the right material choosing during plant designing stage
Carbon capture, towards comprehensive knowledge – our common objective
The greatest challenge to be overcome in the process of amine capture of CO2 from flue gases in conventional coal power plants is the reduction in energy demand for the regeneration of the solution as well as the identification of technological obstacles to the introduction of this technology at an industrial scale. The Institute for Chemical Processing of Coal (IChPW) investigates the above-mentioned issues as part of the Strategic Research Programme – „Advanced technologies of energy acquisition: Development of high performance technology of “zero-emission” coal units integrated with CO2 reuptake from flue gases”, coordinated by the Silesian University of Technology. The research is performed at a pilot scale with the application of a modular plant, created thanks to the cooperation of the Institute with industrial partners: TAURON Polska Energia SA and TAURON Wytwarzanie SA. Currently, the Pilot Plant is being implemented for the purpose of the investigation of amine capture of CO2 from the flue gases from the pulverized-fuel boiler in Łaziska Power Plant, The said investigation shall bring the experience and knowledge required for the implementation of Carbon Capture technology

The article presents the current state of the CNG market used as an alternative fuel for car engines. Attention was paid to European Union directives requirements and the current state of the directives’ fulfillment. The economic aspect of CNG usage was analyzed and the approximate costs of driving 10,000 km on different fuels in the last four years were presented. The PtG process which uses electric energy (hydrogen production) and carbon dioxide captured from the flue gas for the production of synthetic methane were discussed. The scheme of the SNG plant with the indication of its most important components was presented, and attention was paid to the mutual complementation of PtG technologies with carbon dioxide capture technology. The benefits of synthetic methane production are presented and the use of compressed natural gas to power engines in vehicles has been described. First, the focus was on the single-fuel use of CNG in bus and truck engines, paying particular attention to the ecological aspect of the implemented solutions. It has been shown that the use of compressed natural gas will reduce almost 100% of the particulates emission from the combustion process. The advantages and disadvantages of the alternative fuel supply are given. Next, the aspect of dual-fuel use in diesel engines was analyzed on the example of a smaller engine. The degree of reduction of harmful compounds emission from the combustion process is shown. Finally, attention was paid to the possible scale effect, referring to the number of motor vehicles in Poland
