Simulation of nucleation and growth processes. Application to nickel electrocrystallization in aqueous solutions

    No full text
A comprehensive approach of the mechanisms of electrochemical processes involving nucleation and crystal growth is described. The study is based on the use of transient electrochemical techniques which prove to be useful in determining the kinetics of reaction steps. Fundamental equations are derived to obtain a precise knowledge of transport and growth processes in solids. Since algebraic solutions are not available, quantitative results are obtained by numerical calculations. An application to the study of nickel deposition in acidic solutions is given

Storing and transporting hazardous material, logistics strategies for Moroccan companies

Companies manufacturing, using or transporting hazardous materials (HM) face risks at every link in their supply chain. Industrial activities related to this type of material expose not only the workers, but also the population and environment to serious risks. Logistic management and risk management are often considered independent. However, logistics choices related to hazardous materials mix the two aspects in an inseparable way. In fact, risk management must be synchronized with the choices and logistics strategies of companies. The analysis of the risk relating to the management of these HMs, therefore, requires making methodological choices, but also using a lot of data, which are often incomplete. The achievement of the present study was a real challenge owing to the lack of information and statistics on the use, transportation or storage of HMs in Moroccan territory. The purpose of this study is to provide a portrait of the industrial practices surrounding the management of hazardous materials in Morocco in order to identify the determining factors, specifically those related to health, safety at work, in the logistic choices of companies as well as the different strategies that take into account the variables: storage, transport and quantity, including cost and risk factors. In this context, and to conduct a survey on the logistic choices related to hazardous materials at our country, we have set up a questionnaire that will try to reach the largest number of Moroccan companies. This questionnaire focuses on the practices surrounding: procurement, shipping, storage, outsourcing, risk management, the influence of economic factors on the management of hazardous materials and the elements affecting specifically workers

Coastal risk modelling for oil spill in the mediterranean sea

    No full text
The accident probability estimation and the consequence analysis are based on statistical data about oil spill accident occurrence in the Mediterranean area, on the probability of different release sizes, and on the joint probability of wind speed and directions. The risk model and its evaluation have been assessed for the Mediterranean littoral considering the time required by the oil slick to hit the coast in specific sensible target points assuming that an oil release accident potentially occurred in an accident sites located along the ship routes. This approach has been applied on the area of the Strait of Gibraltar, which supports a significant volume of maritime traffic because it represents the navigational connection channel between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea

    Mesoporous nickel/nickel oxide-a nanoarchitectured electrode

Metallic nickel was electrodeposited from aqueous nickel(II) acetate dissolved in the lyotropic liquid crystalline phases of Brij 56 and Brij 78 surfactant templates to form metal films with hexagonal arrays of nanometer-sized channels. The applicability of these materials as inexpensive, large area and low-resistance current collectors was demonstrated by cyclic voltammetry. The redox charge capacity of the surface oxide in aqueous KOH was enhanced by 2 orders of magnitude over that of a nontemplated sample with no detectable impedance of the reaction rate
