Normal state diamagnetism of charged bosons in cuprate superconductors

    Get PDF
Normal state orbital diamagnetism of charged bosons quantitatively accounts for recent high-resolution magnetometery results near and above the resistive critical temperature Tc of superconducting cuprates. Our parameter-free descriptions of normal state diamagnetism, Tc, upper critical fields and specific heat anomalies unambiguously support the 3D Bose-Einstein condensation at Tc of preformed real-space pairs with zero off-diagonal order parameter above Tc, at variance with phase fluctuation (or vortex) scenarios of the "normal" state of cuprates.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure

Non local Andreev reflection in a carbon nanotube superconducting quantum interference device

We investigate a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) based on carbon nanotubes in a fork geometry [J.-P. Cleuziou {\it et al.}, Nature Nanotechnology {\bf 1}, 53 (2006)], involving tunneling of evanescent quasiparticles through a superconductor over a distance comparable to the superconducting coherence length, with therefore ``non local'' processes generalizing non local Andreev reflection and elastic cotunneling. Non local processes induce a reduction of the critical current and modify the current-phase relation. We discuss arbitrary interface transparencies. Such devices in fork geometries are candidates for probing the phase coherence of crossed Andreev reflection.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures, revised versio

Separated spin-up and spin-down evolution of degenerated electrons in two dimensional systems: Dispersion of longitudinal collective excitations in plane and nanotube geometry

Applying the separated spin evolution quantum hydrodynamics to two-dimensional electron gas in plane samples and nanotubes located in external magnetic fields we find new kind of wave in electron gas, which is called the spin-electron acoustic wave. Separate spin-up electrons and spin-down electrons evolution reveals in replacement of the Langmuir wave by the couple of hybrid waves. One of two hybrid waves is the modified Langmuir wave. Another hybrid wave is the spin-electron acoustic wave. We study dispersion of these waves in two dimensional structures of electrons. We also consider dependence of dispersion properties on spin polarisation of electrons in external magnetic field.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure

Semiclassical Approach to Competing Orders in Two-leg Spin Ladder with Ring-Exchange

We investigate the competition between different orders in the two-leg spin ladder with a ring-exchange interaction by means of a bosonic approach. The latter is defined in terms of spin-1 hardcore bosons which treat the N\'eel and vector chirality order parameters on an equal footing. A semiclassical approach of the resulting model describes the phases of the two-leg spin ladder with a ring-exchange. In particular, we derive the low-energy effective actions which govern the physical properties of the rung-singlet and dominant vector chirality phases. As a by-product of our approach, we reveal the mutual induction phenomenon between spin and chirality with, for instance, the emergence of a vector-chirality phase from the application of a magnetic field in bilayer systems coupled by four-spin exchange interactions.Comment: 15 pages, 9 figure
