The cyclization of N-Boc-α-alkylserines to corresponding β-lactones under Mitsunobu reaction conditions and the ring opening with heterocyclic amines (pyrrolidine, piperidine, morpholine and thiomorpholine) produced N-Boc-α-alkyl-β-(sec-amino)alanines.
