Background: Cervical cancer is the second most common cause of cancer in females Worldwide and nearly 85% of the cervical cancer cases are diagnosed in developing countries. The health care providers can play an important role in promoting cervical cancer screening and knowledge about HPV vaccination. So this study was conducted to assess the knowledge, attitude and practices regarding cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination and to analyze the factors influencing the knowledge about HPV vaccination, among nursing staff. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 143 nurses and 75nursing students (total 218) at ESIPGIMSR MGM Hospital, Parel Mumbai. Data was collected using Questionnaire, designed based on the study objectives. Results: 73 (33.49%) of the nurses did received education on cervical cancer and HPV in the past. Most of the nurses, 184 (84.4%) considered that they were at no risk of cervical cancer. 143 (65.60%) nurses knew that Pap smear can be done to screen patients. Out of 141 married nurses, only 39 (27.28%) regularly had a gynaecological examination and 105 (74.47%) had never done Pap smear. In addition, 119 (54.59%) participants did not know at what age Pap smear should commence. Only 73 (33.49%) nurses knew about the route of transmission of HPV and 57 (26.15%) knew about HPV vaccine. 215 (98.62%) nurses did not receive an HPV vaccine. Conclusions: The nurses and nursing students did not have prior adequate education on cervical cancer, HPV, and vaccine and the desired level of knowledge on risk factors and signs of cervical cancer and prevention of the disease

Modulated structure in the martensite phase of Ni1.8Pt0.2MnGa: a neutron diffraction study

7M orthorhombic modulated structure in the martensite phase of Ni1.8Pt0.2MnGa is reported by powder neutron diffraction study, which indicates that it is likely to exhibit magnetic field induced strain. The change in the unit cell volume is less than 0.5% between the austenite and martensite phases, as expected for a volume conserving martensite transformation. The magnetic structure analysis shows that the magnetic moment in the martensite phase is higher compared to Ni2MnGa, which is in good agreement with magnetization measurement

Research Notes : Pakistan : Variability for some quantitative traits in soybean

    Get PDF
Abstract: Studies on variability in soybean were taken up to work out the magnitude of genetic variability, heritability, and genetic advance among 36 varieties of soybean. Considerable genetic variability was observed for pods per plant, plant height, and grain yield per plant. High heritability and genetic advance were recorded for number of pods per plant and branches per plant. Thus, yield could be considerably improved through intensive selection pressure based on number of pods per plant and branches per plant

Research Notes : Pakistan : Path-coefficient analysis of developmental and yield components in soybean

Abstract: Interrelationships among different characters were determined by simple correlations and path-coefficient analysis using 36 diverse and elite cultivars representing different geographical origin. The results revealed a highly significant positive association of the branches per plant and pods per plant with grain yield. The pods per plant also showed a high direct influence on grain yield. Thus, from this investigation, it is suggested that pods per plant and number of branches per plant are the primary yield components that should be given due emphasis in selecting high yielding genotypes in soybean

    Generalized Gravi-Electromagnetism

A self consistant and manifestly covariant theory for the dynamics of four charges (masses) (namely electric, magnetic, gravitational, Heavisidian) has been developed in simple, compact and consistent manner. Starting with an invariant Lagrangian density and its quaternionic representation, we have obtained the consistent field equation for the dynamics of four charges. It has been shown that the present reformulation reproduces the dynamics of individual charges (masses) in the absence of other charge (masses) as well as the generalized theory of dyons (gravito - dyons) in the absence gravito - dyons (dyons). key words: dyons, gravito - dyons, quaternion PACS NO: 14.80H

Background: Obesity is emerging as a serious problem throughout the world, not only among adults but also children, teenagers and young adults. Medical education is stressful throughout the whole course of training. Overweight and obesity is one of the preventable cause of morbidity and mortality. The social implications of obesity are a major problem that is often neglected. Objectives of current study were to assess the prevalence of overweight and obesity in medical students and to assess the factors influencing the development of overweight and obesity. Methods:The present study was a cross sectional study of IInd semester medical students in which, a total of 131 students were included. The study involved administration of a pretested questionnaire to the students and their anthropometric measurements. Results:In a batch of 150 students 131 participated in the study in which 90 (68.70%) were males and 41 (31.30%) were females. The prevalence of overweight was 13 (9.93%) and the prevalence of obesity was 2 (1.53%).  Conclusion:The study showed a high prevalence of overweight and obesity among the medical students. At the time of anthropometric measurements awareness was created for their weight and for the promotion of physical activity among medical students.

Origin of Ferroelectricity in Orthorhombic LuFeO3_3

We demonstrate that small but finite ferroelectric polarization (∼\sim0.01 μ\muC/cm2^2) emerges in orthorhombic LuFeO3_3 (PnmaPnma) at TNT_N (∼\sim600 K) because of commensurate (k = 0) and collinear magnetic structure. The synchrotron x-ray and neutron diffraction data suggest that the polarization could originate from enhanced bond covalency together with subtle contribution from lattice. The theoretical calculations indicate enhancement of bond covalency as well as the possibility of structural transition to the polar Pna21Pna2_1 phase below TNT_N. The Pna21Pna2_1 phase, in fact, is found to be energetically favorable below TNT_N in orthorhombic LuFeO3_3 (albeitalbeit with very small energy difference) than in isostructural and nonferroelectric LaFeO3_3 or NdFeO3_3. Application of electric field induces finite piezostriction in LuFeO3_3 via electrostriction resulting in clear domain contrast images in piezoresponse force microscopy.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figure

Essential oil isolated from the petiole of  Cinnamomum verum was analysed by gaschromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Twenty five compoundsaccounting for 87.31% of the total essential oil were identified. (E)-Cinnamaldehyde (33.04%)followed by eugenol (17.32%), linalool (16.85%) and (E)-cinnamyl acetate (11.78%) were themain components of the essential oil. This is the first report on the composition of essentialoil of petiole of C. verum. &nbsp
