Correlation of Process Parameters with Mechanical Properties of Laser Sintered PA12 Parts

    Get PDF
Selective laser sintering (SLS) is an additive manufacturing technique that enables the production of customized, complex products. SLS has proven itself a viable prototyping tool and production method for noncritical products. The industry has picked up on the potential of SLS, which raised the question whether it is possible to produce functional products with reproducible mechanical properties for application in critical sectors. Properties of SLS parts highly depend on the applied process settings. Hence, present work examined the influence of key process parameters (preheating temperature, laser power, scan spacing, scan speed, layer thickness, and part build orientation) on the properties (tensile strength, tensile modulus, elongation at break, and part density) of SLS produced parts. A design of experiments (DoE) approach was used to plan the experiments. Test samples according to DIN EN ISO 527-2 were produced on a sintering system (EOSINT P395) using polyamide 12 powder (EOS PA2200). Regression models that describe the relation between the process settings and resulting part properties were developed. Sensitivity analysis showed that mechanical properties of sintered parts were highly affected by layer thickness and scan spacing variations

This research was carried out in the experimental fields of Department of Field Crops, Faculty of Agriculture, the University of Namık Kemal in 2014-2015. In the study, totally 30 bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes (15 cultivars; early, medium-early and late-maturing 10 lines are tolerant to the heat-temperature stress which were provided by CIMMYT-International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center), 5 lines (were taken from the same university’s wheat breeding program which was collaborated by the CIMMYT) were used as an experimental material. The experiment was adjusted in a split-plot design with 3 replicates. Sowing dates (Normal (NS ? November 09, 2014) and Late sowing (LS ? January 09, 2015)) were constituted the main plots, and the genotypes constituted the sub-plots. These physiological traits ((membrane thermostability (MT), canopy temperature (CT), leaf chlorophyll content (LCC) and stomatal conductance (SC)) were measured at the LS stage due to giving much more correct, logical and meaningful results, but grain yield (GY) was fixed for all the sowing dates. Obtained findings are: The GY was varied between (4.35- 6.34 t ha-1) for genotypes; the MT was changed between (10.58-66.25%); the CT was realized between (17.67-22.00 oC); the LCC was varied between (38.30-53.30 SPAD) and the SC was changed between (25.20-166.80 mmol m-2 s-1). It was observed that most of the CIMMYT originated genotypes are tolerant to high-temperature stress and most of the wheats that are grown in Thrace Region are negatively affected by the high-temperature stress. © Ankara Üniversitesi Ziraat Fakültesi.AR.14.15This work was supported by the Office of Scientific Research Projects of Tekirda? Is Marketing Science Really Scientific?

Thirty-five years ago, there was a special issue of the Journal of Marketing in Fall, 1983 concerning whether marketing is a science and what role theory plays in a marketing science. In that issue the following articles concerned with the definition of Marketing and its role in business appeared: Shelby Hunt asked the question of whether a general theory of marketing is even possible and what such a theory would be like if such a theory existed. Robert Bartels noted that marketing has been defined as having theory and practice, specialization and generalization, as well as established interests and global expectations over the years. In other words are we primarily practitioners or are we primarily scholars. John Howard notes that marketing provides a guide for strategic and operational planning by focusing on the customer which maximizes shareholder wealth. George D. and Robin Wensley emphasized marketing’s role in creating competitive advantage and associated strategic issues to create a new paradigm for marketing. Other articles were more directly related to the issue of marketing and science: Rohit Deshpande was concerned with marketing scientists being preoccupied with hypothesis testing rather than theory building and recommends using qualitative methods to build theories followed by using quantitative methods to test the validity of those theories. Paul Anderson wondered if marketing should be more scientific by being committed to theory-driven paradigms producing programmatic research to solve significant problems. Finally, Paul Peter and Jerry Olson answer the question ‘Is Science marketing?’ by claiming that science is a special case of marketing. They note that marketing scientists create theories which are like products with channels of distribution, promotion, and prices. Marketing scientists who create these theories have objectives for doing so that fall into three types: noble, curiosity and self-serving. The question here is: Is marketing a science and if so what makes it scientific? In the end of all discussions asking ‘Is marketing a science?’ we must recognize there is no set of criteria for recognizing science from nonscience (Laudan, 1982). However if marketing scientists create useful knowledge, they have answered the question in the marriage of marketing theory and practice. The objective of this paper is to assess food systems performance in Mediterranean countries to deliver safe food (fresh produce), and to demonstrate the capacity to the satisfaction of private customers and public regulators. To that end, an international benchmarking exercise was developed to assess the quality performance gap in food standards across countries and food systems. The study was carried out in three Mediterranean countries: Spain, Morocco and Turkey and involved an audit of the citrus and tomatoes supply chains, and a comparison with existing "best practice" in infrastructure and management practices at both firm and industry level. The aim was to identify the gaps between fresh produce exporters and a best practice company. To that end, the Spanish fresh produce supply chain was used as the benchmark since in many areas it is more advanced than elsewhere.benchmarking, performance, quality and safety, fresh produce, Mediterranean countries, Food Consumption/Nutrition/Food Safety,

    Get PDF
PurposeTo compare urethral stricture rates in comorbid patients undergoing plasmakinetic transurethral resection of the prostate (PK-TURP) and monopolar transurethral resection of the prostate (M-TURP) for benign prostatic hyperplasia.MethodsThe data of 317 patients with comorbidities undergoing either PK-TURP or M-TURP from September 2008 to December 2012 were retrospectively evaluated. Preoperative and postoperative 12-month International Prostate Symptom Score, maximal flow rate, postoperative International Index of Erectile Function scores, and urethral stricture rates were evaluated.ResultsA total of 154 patients underwent M-TURP and 163 patients underwent PK-TURP. Urethral stricture rates were 6/154 in the M-TURP treatment arm and 17/163 in the PK-TURP treatment arm (P=0.000). In the presence of hypertension and/or coronary artery disease and/or diabetes mellitus, the risk of urethral stricture complication was significantly higher in the PK-TURP group than in the M-TURP group (P=0.000).ConclusionsThe risk of urethral stricture increases with PK-TURP in elderly patients with a large prostate and concomitant hypertension and/or coronary artery disease and/or diabetes mellitus. Therefore, PK-TURP should be performed cautiously in this group of benign prostatic hyperplasia patients

Social and cultural aspects of the city are the most important features which are in a continuous development. Urban identity in this respect is very vital for cities in order to survive as a living organism and provide livable environment for the urbanites. As a world metropolis Istanbul is a unique city with her natural environment, historical and archeological heritage and with her very vivid socio-cultural life. These features provide a rich identity and at the same time allow for a powerful urban image. Her silhouette created by physical elements and historical architecture is very impressive. Golden Horn being a gulf along the Bosphorus is an important element of the urban physical structure and has a special role in the historical and cultural life of Istanbul. Within the comprehensive image of the metropolitan Istanbul, it is a sub-region with strong elements of identity. These elements can be identified by the data related to the natural, cultural and human environment. Golden Horn sub-region should be evaluated after a meticulous assessment of the tourist potential, quality of urban services provided and a comprehensive investigation on the sub-regional identity. During the last two decades local governments have frequently displayed a fragmented approach in the preparation of area developmental plans without any research on identity.  Keywords: Golden Horn, urban identity, environmental perception, gestalt law
