ACUTE OTITIS EXTERNA AS SEEN AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA TEACHING HOSPITAL, ENUGU.
Aim: is to evaluate clinical features of AOE diagnosed in and to update the previous study from our facility.Methods: A prospective, clinical and laboratory study in a tertiary health facilityResults: A total of 3793 consecutive patients that attended the otorhinolaryngology clinics of the university of Nigeria teaching hospital Enugu during the period under study were assessed for clinical diagnosis of otitis externa. A total of 155 ears from127 patients were diagnosed clinically and confirmed by microbial studies as having acute otitis externa. There were 66 males and 61 females out of the 127 patients seen.71 ears had only bacteria isolated from the culture of their ear swab specimens, 28 fungus only and, 32 ears had both bacterial and fungal isolates while 24 ears had no isolates of microbes of the 3793 patients assessed.Conclusions: Acute otitis externa is a common disease in Enugu with no gender biasand there were three times more cases of bacterial otitis externa than fungal otitis externa.
Fractional diffusion emulates a human mobility network during a simulated disease outbreak
From footpaths to flight routes, human mobility networks facilitate the
spread of communicable diseases. Control and elimination efforts depend on
characterizing these networks in terms of connections and flux rates of
individuals between contact nodes. In some cases, transport can be
parameterized with gravity-type models or approximated by a diffusive random
walk. As a alternative, we have isolated intranational commercial air traffic
as a case study for the utility of non-diffusive, heavy-tailed transport
models. We implemented new stochastic simulations of a prototypical
influenza-like infection, focusing on the dense, highly-connected United States
air travel network. We show that mobility on this network can be described
mainly by a power law, in agreement with previous studies. Remarkably, we find
that the global evolution of an outbreak on this network is accurately
reproduced by a two-parameter space-fractional diffusion equation, such that
those parameters are determined by the air travel network.Comment: 26 pages, 4 figure

Bulk viscosity of spin-one color superconductors
The bulk viscosity of several quark matter phases is calculated. It is found that the effect of color superconductivity is not trivial, it may suppress, or enhance the bulk viscosity depending on the critical temperature and the temperature at which the bulk viscosity is calculated. Also, is it found that the effect of neutrino-emitting Urca processes cannot be neglected in the consideration of the bulk viscosity of strange quark matter. The results for the bulk viscosity of strange quark matter are used to calculate the r-mode instability window of quark stars with several possible phases. It is shown that each possible phase has a different structure for the r-mode instability window.Die Volumenviskosität verschiedener Phasen von Quark-Materie wurde berechnet. Es wurde beobachtet, daß der Effekt von Farbsupraleitung nicht trivial beschreibbar ist, da sie die Volumenviskosität, abhängig von der kritischen Temperatur und der Temperatur, vermindern oder vergrößern kann. Außerdem wurde beobachtet, daß der Effekt von Neutrino-emittierenden Urca-Prozessen bei der Betrachtung der Volumenviskosität von strange Quark-Materie nicht vernachlässigt werden kann. Die Ergebnisse für die Volumenviskosität von strange Quark-Materie wurden benutzt, um das r-Moden Instabilitätsfenster von Quarksternen mit einigen möglichen Phasen auszurechnen. Es wurde gezeigt, daß jede mögliche Phase eine individuelle Struktur des r-Moden Instabilitätsfensters aufweist
