Strange particle production in a single-freeze-out model
The transverse-momentum spectra and elliptic flow of strange particles are
calculated in the framework of the single-freeze-out model and compared with
the recent RHIC data. An overall very good agreement between the model
predictions and the data is obtained.Comment: talk presented by WF during the VIIIth Int. Conf. on Strangeness in

Conservative Signal Processing Architectures For Asynchronous, Distributed Optimization Part II: Example Systems
This paper provides examples of various synchronous and asynchronous signal
processing systems for performing optimization, utilizing the framework and
elements developed in a preceding paper. The general strategy in that paper was
to perform a linear transformation of stationarity conditions applicable to a
class of convex and nonconvex optimization problems, resulting in algorithms
that operate on a linear superposition of the associated primal and dual
decision variables. The examples in this paper address various specific
optimization problems including the LASSO problem, minimax-optimal filter
design, the decentralized training of a support vector machine classifier, and
sparse filter design for acoustic equalization. Where appropriate, multiple
algorithms for solving the same optimization problem are presented,
illustrating the use of the underlying framework in designing a variety of
distinct classes of algorithms. The examples are accompanied by numerical
simulation and a discussion of convergence
RAT0455+1305: another pulsating hybrid sdB star
RAT0455+1305 was discovered during the Rapid Temporal Survey which aims in
finding any variability on timescales of a few minutes to several hours. The
star was found to be another sdBV star with one high amplitude mode and
relatively long period. These features along with estimation of T_eff and log g
makes this star very similar to Balloon 090100001. Encouraged by prominent
results obtained for the latter star we have decided to perform white light
photometry on RAT0455+1305. In 2009 we used the 1.5m telescope located in San
Pedro Martir Observatory in Mexico. Fourier analysis confirmed the dominant
mode found in the discovery data, uncovered another peak close to the dominant
one, and three peaks in the low frequency region. This shows that RAT0455+1305
is another hybrid sdBV star pulsating in both p- and g-modes.Comment: Proceedings of The Fourth Meeting on Hot Subdwarf Stars and Related

Rashba spin-orbit interaction in a circular quantum ring in the presence of a magnetic field
Exact wave functions and energy levels are obtained for an electron in a
two-dimensional semiconductor circular quantum ring with a confining potential
of finite depth in the presence of both an external magnetic field and the
Rashba spin-orbit interaction.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, 2 table
Influence of Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit interactions of equal strengths on electron states in a circular quantum ring in the presence of a magnetic field
Solutions of the Schr\"odinger equation are obtained for an electron in a
two-dimensional circular semiconductor quantum ring in the presence of both
external uniform constant magnetic field and the Rashba and Dresselhaus
spin-orbit interactions of equal strengths. Confinement is simulated by a
realistic potential well of a finite depth. The dependence of the energy levels
on a magnetic field strength, strength of spin-orbit interaction and a relative
ring width is presented.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, 1 tabl
