Previous studies have focused on the comparison between online relationship and offline relationship to find out how online relationship is made, whereas this study hypothesizes that online relationship itself can vary depending on different online situations. To find out the characteristics of online relationship, we examined the place where online relationship is made and its space is blog in this study. This study researched lifestyle blog, where there is active online-communication and the type of relationship(whether it is blogger-blogger relationship or blogger-blog user relationship) and perception of similarity are used as independent variables. Then, how these two variables affect relational maintenance behaviors and relational satisfaction was studied. First, respondents in this study use 'positivity' and 'avoidance' the most among relational maintenance behaviors including the five elements: positivity, openness, online joint activity, avoidance, and mundane interaction. This shows that online relationship makers rather prefer keeping the present relationship, avoiding conflict in relationship. Second, this study analyzes influences of the type of rela-tionship on relational maintenance behaviors, focusing on the place online relationship is made, 'blog'. Relational maintenance behaviors actually varied between blogger-blogger relationship and blogger-blog user relationship. The amount of relational maintenance behaviors and relational satisfaction was higher in blogger-blogger relationship where their identity is revealed 'bidirectionally' than in blogger-blog user relationship where their information on identity is limited. After controlling the period of relationship and frequency of conversation, the influence of the type of relationship on relational maintenance behaviors and relational satisfaction was significant. This result indicates that various types of relationship exist online as well as offline. Third, as for perception of similarity, respondents perceive 'attitude similarity' higher than 'background similarity'. Also, the study shows that the biggest element that affects all maintenance behaviors is attitude similarity, which suggests the importance of common interest, beliefs and values. Furthermore, the more simi-larity there is between intuitive similarity and attitude similarity, the more relational maintenance behaviors are shown except 'avoidance'. When intuitive, attitude and background similarity are high, the amount of openness and online joint activity is high, too. It indicates that relational maintenance behaviors that reveal one's identity are shown when there are many similarities. Lastly, it turned out that the most influential element that can predict relational satisfaction is 'relational maintenance behaviors', which implies that actual behaviors affect relational satisfaction more than the type of relationship or perception of similarity does. Also, relational maintenance behaviors except online joint activity had an influence in relational satisfaction, which enables us to identify the characteristics of relational maintenance behaviors that affect online relationship satisfaction. In conclusion, this study is worth reading in that we did not simply agree to the idea that online relationship can be compared with offline relationship, but focused on the characteristics of online relationship itself by examining the space it exists.
