Animal and/or plant protein sources substituting fishmeal in the diets keep being developed due to its high price. The purpose of this study is to determine response of dietary substitution of fishmeal with silkworm pupae meal, promate meal, meat and bone meal and/or their combination on performance of juvenile olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus). A 60% fish meal was used as the main protein source, used as the control (Con) diet. The 10 and 20% fishmeal were substituted with silkworm pupae meal and meat and bone meal, referred to as the SPM10, SPM20, MBM10 and MBM20 diets, respectively. And the 10, 20 and 40% fishmeal were substituted with promate meal, referred to as the PM10, PM20 and PM40 diets, respectively. Finally the 10 and 20% fishmeal were substituted with combined silkworm pupae meal and promate meal, refereed to as the SPM+PM10 and SPM+PM20 diets, respectively. Weight gain and specific growth rate of fish fed the MBM10 diet were higher than those of fish fed the Con, SPM20, PM20, PM40 and SPM+PM20 diets. Feed efficiency ratio of fish fed the SPM10, MBM10, MBM20, PM10 and SPM+PM10 diets was higher than that of fish fed the SPM+PM20 and PM40 diets. Protein efficiency ratio of fish fed the MBM10 and MBM20 diets was higher than that of fish fed the SPM20, PM20, PM40 and SPM+PM20 diets. In conclusion, dietary substitution of fishmeal with 10% SPM, 20% MBM, 10% PM and 10% SPM+PM could be made.Contents i List of Tables ii Abstract (in Korean) iii Abstract v Abbreviation vii I.Introduction 1 II. Computerized Adaptive Language Testing

    Get PDF
In the era of information and communication technology, where computerized adaptive language testing continues to draw a keen attention from language testers, the present research attempts to develop a reliable and efficient algorithm of computerized adaptive language testing (CALT) and to investigate the extent to which the algorithm results in reliable and valid outcome. Employing an eclectic approach to analyzing real data as well as simulation data, the research has developed a highly reliable and valid algorithm on the basis of fundamental considerations including the difficulty level of initial items, the estimation method of the ability parameter, the item selection, the test length, the measurement error, the context effect, the item-based response time, etc. Focusing on the concurrent validity, the overall research findings suggest that the CALT version of the TEPS (Test of English Proficiency developed by SNU) accommodating the item-based response time factor is superior to the paper-based language test (PBLT) version of the TEPS in terms of measurement accuracy of overall English proficiency. Furthermore, the correlational analyses based on test-takers performance of CALT, PBLT, and TOP (the Test of Oral Proficiency) strongly support the plausibility of the test methods of the TEPS in which the grammar test is administered in a speeded manner and the listening comprehension test input is presented in a purely oral mode

With the advent of the new millenium, its more important than ever to be equipped with goμ—¬ communication skills to interact successfully with global villagers. As the need to acquire foreign language skills is ever growing on the part of society as a whole as well as individuals, so is the challenge the discipline of language testing is to meet. In order to look to the future, Ianguage testing, as a frontier of applied linguistics, has been actively incorporating state-of-the-art multimedia technology and measurement theories into new testing methods and scoring schemes, resulting in computer adaptive/based language testing (CAL T). This sophisticated computer technology was made possible by interdisciplinary research among such major fields of cognitive science as computational linguistics, computer science, and psychology. Among the most noteworthy technology are natural language processing and automatic speech recognition, both of which have a great potential to empower communicative performance testing (focused on production skills) by enhancing practicality and reliability. At this juncture, the present study is intended to overview the current developments of Ianguage testing and to explore its future prospects in terms of applicability of sophisticated computer technology in developing more valid measurement tools based on new test methods and scoring schemes

This paper discusses the purpose and the procedure of effective faculty research evaluation system of College of Social Sciences in Seoul National University. What is often ignored, yet most critical in discussions of faculty research evaluation is its purpose. The most important goal of an evaluation system is to help faculty members grow and develop their research competency, not to punish them. To obtain this goal, an evaluation system should be 1) consistent, 2) professional, 3) periodic, and 4) participatory. It is also important to base faculty research evaluation on peer reviewed products. Some other suggestions are also discussed

A Validation Study on SNUCALTS (Seoul National University Computer-Administered Language Testing Service)

In order to maximize efficiency of the process of test development and measurement, SNULRI (Seoul National University Language Research'Institute) has developed a computerized item bank system on the basis of the 3rd-year SNUCREPT (SNU Criterion-Referenced English Proficiency Test) validation research conducted in 1994. The present study is aimed at validating the total process of the computerized item bank system in operation, which is tentatively entitled SNUCALTS (SNU Computer Administered Language Testing Service). The present research conducted the construct validation by analyzing the data collected from the 408 SNU students who took a 100-item set test (made up of 50 listening test items and 50 written test items) which was produced in a manner of random sampling by the current system. The overall results show that the computerized algorithm successfully retrieves appropriate test items from the database considering such variables as content domain, task type, topic, and difficulty. The algorithm also functions properly in scoring within IRT framework and produces robust quantitative indices including test-takers' ability and item statistics. Meanwhile, more valid items will continue to be stored onto SNUCALTS until a 200-item test set is successfully retrived from the database. A largescale study on a 200-item test set will be conducted in the fourth quarter of 1996 for the purpose of validating the entire testing process required for valid test development and precise measurement and efficient administrative tasks, e.g. storing and retriving test-takers' data and reporting group and/or individual score data

A Model of Foreign Language Proficiency Test Development

    No full text
In globally competitive modern societies where a good command of foreign language is considered a prerequisite, it is increasingly important to develop a valid tool by which to measure language proficiency from the perspective of criterion-reference as well as norm-reference. It should be pointed out, however, that the commercially available language test batteries have been lacking in sound framework of language test development. Hence, they have failed not only to fulfil the rigorous criteria of language testing theories but also to meet the social expectation of valid measurement process. The present study presents a desirable model intended to develop valid and reliable measures to be employed by Seoul National University Language Research Institute. The pilot tests developed on the basis of this framework will go through systematic process of content, criterion-related and construct validation in further studies. This paper deals with the basic concepts of communicative language ability components and language testing. Thereafter it elaborates on some key issues of the fundamental considerations of Test Method Facets (TMF; Bachman, 1990) in terms of test contents, and tasks. Finally, it provides the example question items pertaining to each task category
