The Determinants of Time Spent for Preparing for Class and Student-Faculty lnteraction of University Students

본 연구의 목적은 대학생의 학습투자시간 및 교수와의 관계에 영향을 미치는 개인 및 대학 변인을 탐색하는데 있다. 개인 변인으로는 성별, 학년, 소득수준, 고교내신, 출신고교 유형, 대학에 대한 소속감 수준을 적용하였고, 대학 변인은 학생당 교육비, 교수당 논문수, 소재지, 대학 평균 소속감 수준을 활용하였다. 전국 32개 대학에 재학 중인 7,182명의 자료를 분석하였다. 분석에는 다층모형 분석이 적용되었다. 연구 결과에 따르면, 여학생보 다 남학생이, 1학년보다 4학년이, 가정의 소득수준이 높을수록, 고교 내신등급이 높을수록, 대학에 대한 소속감 이 클수록, 그리고 교수관계가 양호할수록 학습투자시간이 늘어났다. 특성화고 출신의 학습시간이 상대적으로 적었고, 특목고 출신 여부는 대학생의 학습량에 영향을 미치지 않았다. 학생당 교육비와 대학의 평균적인 소속감 수준이 대학생의 학습투자시간과 정적인 관계를 보였지만, 교수당 논문수와 대학 소재지는 대학생의 학습량에 영향을 미치지 않았다. 교수와의 관계는 남학생이 여학생보다, 4학년이 1학년보다, 소득수준과 고교내신이 높을 수록, 학교에 대한 소속감이 클수록 양호한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 특목고 출신 학생이 다른 유형의 고교를 졸업 한 집단보다 교수와 좋은 관계를 유지하는 것으로 나타났다. 대학의 학생당 교육비는 교수와의 관계에 비록 제한 적이지만 정적인 영향을 미쳤지만, 교수당 논문수가 많을수록 학생이 인식하는 교수와의 관계는 부정적이었다. This study examined the effects of student background characteristics and institutional features on time spent preparing for class and student-faculty interaction of university students. Independent variables include gender, grade, family income level, high school GPA, type of high school, and the sense of belonging to university at the student level and spending per student, the number of research paper per faculty, university location, and the average sense of belonging to university among students at the institution level. Samples include 7,182 students from 32 universities. Multilevel modeling was employed to investigate the relationships between dependent and independent variables at each level. At the student level, all independent variables except for type of high school were found to be positively associated with time spent preparing for class. At the institution level, spending per student and the average sense of belonging to university among students were positively related with time spent preparing for class. Regarding student-faculty interaction, all predictors except for whether to graduate from vocational high schools were found to be positively related with student-faculty interaction of university students.
