In the isothermal heat treatment below MS temperature, the fraction of martensite increases with lowering the isothermal temperature but the fractions of constituent phases in the final microstructure are not significantly affected by the partial replacement of Si by Al. Nevertheless, the increase of Al content in the complex phase steel enhances the bainite transformation, which is thought to be associated with the increase of difference in the free energy between FCC to BCC. The enhancement of bainite transformation is not only effective in suppressing the formation of martensite upon final cooling after the isothermal heat treatment above MS temperature but also useful in refining the final microstructure subjected to the isothermal heat treatment below MS temperature. The yield strengths of the investigated complex phase steels are little influenced by the partial replacement of Si with Al as long as the fractions of constituent phases are comparable; it is possibly originating from the solid solution hardening effect and the microstructure refinement with Al addition
