Materials and methods: The polished surfaces of fully sintered Y-TZP blocks received three different treatments: 1) connector (C), 2) liner (L), or 3) wash layer (W). All the treated zirconia blocks were veneered with either a) fluorapatite glass-ceramic (E) or b) feldspathic porcelain (V) and divided into four groups (CE, CV, LE and WV). For the control group, the testing surfaces of metal blocks were veneered with feldspathic porcelain (VM). All veneered blocks were sectioned into bars (3 mm ร— 3 mm ร— 7 mm), perpendicularly to the interface. A half of the samples in each group (n = 21) were exposed to thermocycling for 20,000 cycles. The temperature was altered between 5ยฐC and 55ยฐC with an immersion time of 30 seconds and a transfer time of 2 seconds. The other half of the specimens were stored at room temperature under dry conditions. All specimens were subjected to the shear test, and the failed surfaces were microscopically examined. The elemental distribution at the zirconia core/veneer interface was analyzed. The bond strength data of the groups were compared with one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the post hoc analyses were conducted using a Tukey test (ฮฑ=0.05). Results: The specimens in Group CE and CV exhibited significantly greater mean bond strength values than those in Group LE and WV, respectively (P<0.05). However, the mean bond strengths significantly decreased in the connector groups (CE and CV) after thermocycling (P<0.05). The elemental analysis suggested diffusion of ceramic substances into the zirconia surface. Conclusions: A glass-ceramic based connector is significantly more favorable to core/veneer adhesion than the other intermediate ceramics evaluated in the study. However, thermocycling affected the bond strength at the core/veneer interface differently according to the intermediate ceramics.I. INTRODUCTION II. MATERIALS AND METHODS III. RESULTS IV. A three-dimensional (3D) intraoral scanner, which is one of the major developments in digital dentistry, is widely used in fixed prosthodontics. The application of intraoral scanner is now increasing in removable prosthodontics. Sclerotic change induced by scleroderma causes the limitation of mouth opening and multiple loss of the teeth. Conventional prosthodontic procedures are challenging for patients with this disease. This study showed a case of digital approach to the removable prosthodontic treatment of a patient who had the scleroderma and the consequent microstomia. At the provisional stage, the optical impression of patients oral structures was digitally obtained. Using a 3D printer, the provisional dentures were fabricated. After extraction of hopeless tooth, the definitive digital impression was taken and the metal frameworks were fabricated, based on the data acquired from the impression. The definitive removable partial dentures were completed and delivered to the patient, who was satisfied with the prostheses.N

Gingival Recontouring with Provisional Restoration in the Mandibular Anterior One-piece Mini-implant: A Case Report

    No full text
Establishing aesthetic outcomes in peri-implant soft tissues of anterior implants is challenging for many clinicians. In this report, a 23-year-old woman with prolonged retention of the primary mandibular right central incisor was referred after completing orthodontic treatment. A one-piece mini-implant was immediately placed after extraction using a computer-designed stereolithographic surgical guide. After a healing period of 6 months, a second provisional restoration was fabricated for soft tissue molding. The resulting gingival contour was transferred to the final restoration by duplicating the gingival portion of the provisional crown with a gingival replica. This report describes a novel gingival recontouring method for one-piece mini-implants.N

Computer aided design and manufacturing and implant surgery using a guide template improve restoration-driven implant treatment procedures. This case utilized those digital technologies to make definitive prostheses for a patient. According to the work flow of digital dentistry, cone beam computed tomography established the treatment plan, which was followed to make the guide template for implant placement. The template guided the implants to be installed as planned. The customized abutments and surveyed fixed restorations were digitally designed and made. The metal framework of the removable partial denture was cast from resin pattern using an additive manufacturing technique, and the artificial resin teeth were replaced with the zirconia onlays for occlusal stability. These full mouth rehabilitation procedures provided functionally and aesthetically satisfactory results for the patient.N

Purpose: Unpredictable shrinkage of zirconia during sintering process causes discrepancy. Therefore, there have been attempts to reduce discrepancy by milling zirconia after sintering. However, due to the hardness of sintered zirconia, milling takes longer time, causes damage to the machine and causes chip formation. With customized zirconia block using the mean dimension of prepared natural dentition, it is expected to overcome these shortcomings. Materials and methods: The mean dimension of prepared natural dentition was analyzed as STL file after scanning of prepared teeth treated at SNUDH. The transverse, frontal and sagittal planes were set using Mimics and Photoshop. 3D volume was projected on each plane, and the outer line was measured through external tangent line, and the inner line was measured through inflection point of tangent line. Results: The mean height of prepared incisal (N = 57) is 6.60 ยฑ 1.05 mm, mesiodistal length is 2.98 ยฑ 0.73 mm, buccolingual length is 2.04 ยฑ 0.73 mm. The mean height of prepared premolar (N = 15) is 5.37 ยฑ 1.49 mm, mesiodistal length is 4.10 ยฑ 1.78 mm, buccolingual length is 5.86 ยฑ 1.55 mm. And the mean height of prepared molar (N = 13) is 5.11 ยฑ 1.29 mm, mesiodistal length is 6.80 ยฑ 1.18 mm, buccolingual length is 7.34 ยฑ 1.40 mm. Conclusion: Using the mean dimension of prepared natural dentition, it is expected to be able to fabricate customized zirconia block.N
