Especially the family is the main source of mental health in its members. The family as a system exists in an organizational structure as a subsystem of the community and a suprasystem of each of the family members, and is a set of persisting interrelationships between the pacts of a system. All family members are parts of the family system. Within the family structure, the members are in constant meaningful interaction striving for homeostasis and family functions and integrated system which each family members work in harmony. Predictably enoughs any change in one part of the family system resulting in possible change in both family structure and family functioning. Cross-sectional survey approach was employed to this research project. The main purpose of this study were to characterize and classily families of male adolescent families in accordance with the Olson Circumflex Model and to identify the relationship between family adaptability and family cohesion and male adolescent's mental health status. The theory and model providing the theoretical rationale for this study are the Systems theory that was formulated by Bertalanffy and the Circumplex model of marital and family systems that was formulated by 01son, Russell, and Sprenkle. Family adaptability and family cohesion are the major components in Circumplex model. These two dimentions earth have four levels. Combining the levels and dimentions allows identification of 16 specific types of family systems and 3 mole general types (balanced, mid-ranger and extreme). With respect to the method, a typical questionnaire was employed to obtain my data. A total of 250 families (non-clinical parent/male adolescent triads) by convenient sampling were recruited for participation in the research project reported on this dissertation. Data for this study were collected a period of three months from the begining of December 1987 to the ends of February 1988 after the pilot study and the protest of the instrument. As far as research instruments were concerned, the following four of self-report research tools were utilized. They were FACES โ…ข and Family Satisfaction developed by 01son et al., Cornell Medical Index-Health Questionnaire modified by Nam, Socio-demographic sheet developed by researcher. The resultant data were processed by SPSS for Pearson product moment correlations partial correlation coefficient, x**2 -test, t-test, and ANOVA. The results of statistical analysis were as follows. 1. All of 10 distinct types of family system were indentified. Among them, 'Structurally connected types'(32 families, 12.8%) were the most and 'chaotically disengaged types' (4 families, 1.6%) were the least. Deviding 16 unit typology into 3 basic groups of types, 'Balanced types' were 104 families (41.6%), 'Mid-range types' were 174families(45.6%), 'Extreme types' weve 32 families(12.8%). 2. The scores of male adolescents' mental health ranged from 3.0 to 3.with the average at 12.9(S.D, 3.8). 3. Family adaptability scores were higher among mothers who had religious affiliation and had above post high school education and families who had much income. 4. Family cohesion scores were higher among mothers who had religious affiliation and families who had much income and had large family size. 5. The mean age of fathers was higher 'Extreme' than 'Balanced' or 'Mid-range' types and fathers with religious affiliation were more 'Extreme' than other types and fathers with no religious affiliation were more 'Balanced' than other types. 6. Family satisfaction scores were higher among fathers who had above post college education and parents who had religious affiliation respectively. 7. The first hypothesis that 'there is a relationship between family adaptability as measured by FACES โ…ข and male adolescents' mental health as measured by Cornell Medical Index' was not sustained. 8. The second hypothesis that 'there is a relationship between family cohesion as measured by FACES โ…ข and male adolescents' mental health as measured by Cornell Medical Index' was supported(r=.14, p<.05). 9. The third hypothesis that 'there is a relationship between the dimensions of family cohesion, and family adaptability as measured by FACES โ…ข and male adolescents' mental health as measured by Cornell Medical Index was not supported, but there was a significant relationship between the family discrepancy seores and male adoleseents' mental health as measured by Cornell Medical Index(r=-.12, p<.05). 10. The fourth hypothesis that 7there is a relationship between family satisfaction as measured by FS and male adolescents' mental health as measured by Cornell Medical Index' was accepted(r=.23, p<.001). This study contributes to improved scientific knowledge for nursing science and indicates areas of nursing research which might further enrich scientific nursing knowledge. This study contributes to nursing practice by providing nursing intervention designed to increase family cohesion and family satisfaction may be a useful avenue toward improved male adolescents' mental health, considering socio-demographic factors of family.restrictio

"Nurse Practitioner" is a core member who is in charge of this primary medical care in governmen health centersl. The purpose of this study is to study the content of inservice education and the degree of job satisfaction of nurses in KyungBook province. By this study, it is expected to improve to job performance of the nurses in primary medical care program. As study method, the descriptive survey with structured questionnaire was used Eighty nurses who are working as "Nurse Practitioner" in 34 areas in KyungBook province were defined as study universe. However, the subjects of this study were 51 nurses from 27 areas in KyungBook province. The revised version of the questionnaire used for this study contains: 1. Employment experience 4. The content of inservice education needed by nurses Data was collected from Dec. 20th to Oct. 17th in 1979. The statistical method used for data analysis include X**2-test and T-test. The results of this study could be summerized as follows: 1. Demographic and socio-economic characteristics and employment experience of Nurse practitioner: More than half of Nurse practitioners were under 25 years of age, unmarried, grew up in urban areas, and the mean age was 26.4. They are all graduates of 3 year diploma schools. The mean monetary remuneration was approximately 100,000 won. They mostly worked before in the field of community Health Nursing rather than in hospital settings. Mowt of them had not found their own employment, but this tends to change to choose their employment by themselves. The percentage of the nurse practitioners who had midwife certification or public Health Nurse certification was very low. The majority of them felt conflicts in their present job. The main reason of the conflicts was lack of social recognition of nursing and poor economic remuneration. At the time of the survey, they stated that they planned to work mostly from one to three years more. The nurses who wanted to change their present job in the future were more than the majority. The main reason was poor pay. More than half of them wanted to receive satisfy with their present salary. They stated that too much clerical work was involved and that hardly had time and chances to communicate with their associates. Generally, the fellowship among nurses was stated as good, and this would promote adjustment of new comers to new working environment. The relationship between medical doctor and nurse appears to be good, but there were few occasion required their team work. They said that there was no chance to promote and develop their career. Their working condition was rated as poor and present system of the decision-making did not help in improvement nursing services and their social-economic welfare. They thought that nursing service and activities were disorganized. They really believed in the importance of nursing for the society, but were dissatisfied with their present job nature and contribution to the society. 2. The motivation for admission to nursing school, preference of employment at graduation and inservice education beeded. More than half of them said that they decided to enter nursing schools and their main reason for the selection of nursing school was that nursing education could provede them with health knowledge to help family and their children in future. Nevertheless, they hopped to be employed at completion of the school. The main reason was that they would like to apply the nursing knowledge they have learned to a real situation. The majority of the respondents prefered working in the field of Community Health Nursing rather than in hospital settings. The contents of inservice education needed by the majority of the respondents were 1) Nursing Theory 2) Nursing Planning 3) Nursing Process 4) Human behavior 5) Change Theory 6) Organization Management 7) Communication and Health Assessment. 3. Job Satisfaction and Selected Characteristics of Respondents. The majority of the respondents who were satisfied with their present job were older than those who were dissatisfied. (T = 2.377 d.f = 49 0.01 < p< 0.05) More than half of them who were satisfied with their present job were married and grew up in urban areas. (X**2 = 2.359 d.f = 10.1 < p < 0.2). Those who were satisfied with their present job found their own employment and preferred working in the field of Community Health Nursing rather than in Hospital settings at graduation. The majority of the respondents who were satisfied with their present job needed to receive inservice education and did not want to change their present job in the future (X**2 = 9.259 d.f = 1 p<0.01) In conclusion, it appeared that prospects for community health Nursing are good since more than half of all reslpondents wanted to change their job to the field of community Health Nursing and wanted to choose their employment by themselves. But they had several problems in relation to job satisfaction as follows: 1. Few of the respondents had midwife cerification or public Health certification. 2. More than a half of them felt conflicts in their present job and wanted to change, the main reason being lack of social recognition and poor pay. 3. At the time of the survey, the majority of them planned to work from one to three years more. 4. They had had little opportunity for inservice education even though they wanted to receive inservice education upon changing to a new job. I suggest that in the future, more study of Nurse Practitioner's Job satisfaction with relation to more specific analysis of factors and multiple variables is necessary.restrictio
