Assessment of retinal degeneration with optical coherence tomography in a dog
To report retinal image of in a 6-year-old male castrated poodle dog with a 2-month history of nyctalopia using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Ocular reflexes were present in both eyes and slit lamp examination showed anterior subscapular cataract in the right eye. There were fundus abnormalities in both eyes similar to retinal degeneration. Scotopic electroretinograms (ERGs) revealed significantly subabnormal amplitudes and prolonged implicit time, whereas photopic ERGs were better maintained, although far from normal. OCT of affected dogs revealed generalized retinal thinning much more than a normal age-matched dog. Therefore, OCT scanning is considered to be a useful method for retinal evaluation in dogs with retinal degeneration.OAIID:oai:osos.snu.ac.kr:snu2013-01/102/0000004182/8SEQ:8PERF_CD:SNU2013-01EVAL_ITEM_CD:102USER_ID:0000004182ADJUST_YN:YEMP_ID:A075461DEPT_CD:551CITE_RATE:0FILENAME:첨부된 내역이 없습니다.DEPT_NM:수의학과EMAIL:[email protected]:
A modified method for inducing periodontitis in dogs using a silk-wire twisted ligature
This study was designed to assess the effectiveness of a modified silk ligature twisted with wire for inducing advanced periodontitis. Periodontitis was induced in five premolars and one molar of 20 healthy dogs over a 60-day period. The dogs were divided into four groups according to the ligature-inducing materials used: soft moistened food only, wire ligature (WL), silk ligature (SL) and twisted ligature with silk and wire (SWL). Periodontal indices were recorded, and dental radiographs were taken before and after 60 days of ligation. The ligatures were checked daily and the day the ligature fell out was noted. The period during which the ligatures were maintained was significantly shorter for the SL group compared to the SWL group (p < 0.05). Results of the clinical examination showed that almost all periodontal status parameters including the plaque index, gingival index, clinical attachment level, and bleeding on probing were significantly exacerbated in the SWL group compared to the other groups (p < 0.05). Radiographic evaluation demonstrated that alveolar bone levels were significantly lower in the SWL group than the other groups on day 60 (p < 0.05). These results suggested that experimental periodontitis induced by SWL could be an effective method for investigating periodontitis in canine models.OAIID:oai:osos.snu.ac.kr:snu2012-01/102/0000004182/3SEQ:3PERF_CD:SNU2012-01EVAL_ITEM_CD:102USER_ID:0000004182ADJUST_YN:YEMP_ID:A075461DEPT_CD:551CITE_RATE:1.161FILENAME:첨부된 내역이 없습니다.DEPT_NM:수의학과EMAIL:[email protected]_YN:YCONFIRM:

A retrospective study of primary glaucoma in dogs: 43 cases (2006 ~ 2009)
To determine the prevalence of the primary glaucoma (PG) and occurrence of primary glaucoma in initially non-affected normal eye. Medical records of 7751 dogs presented to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) of Seoul National University (SNU) between January 2006 and December 2009 were examined. Among 7751 dogs, forty three dogs (0.55%) developed PG The following breeds were included in the study: 18 American Cocker Spaniels, 17 Shih Tzus, 3 Mixed Breeds, 2 Malteses, 2 Pekingeses, and 1 Chow Chow. The mean onset age of PG in the first eyes was 7.1 ± 2.3 years in the all breeds. Compared with Mixed Breed (0.54%), American Cocker Spaniel (3.16%, p = 0.004) and Chow Chow (20%, p = 0.001) had a higher risk of developing glaucoma. Twenty six of 43 dogs (60.1%) were females with male-to-female ratio of 1:1.53. Twenty nine of 33 eyes (87.9%) developed glaucoma in the fellow eye within mean ± SD time of 17.5 ± 2.7 months. From this study, American Cocker Spaniel and Shih Tzu were the most frequent PG breed in Korea. Also, unilateral PG dogs developed glaucoma in the non-affected normal eye within approximately 17 months. The results indicate that prophylactic medical therapy with antiglaucoma agents should be considered to delay or prevent developing glaucoma in non-affected normal eye.OAIID:oai:osos.snu.ac.kr:snu2012-01/102/0000004182/1SEQ:1PERF_CD:SNU2012-01EVAL_ITEM_CD:102USER_ID:0000004182ADJUST_YN:YEMP_ID:A075461DEPT_CD:551CITE_RATE:0FILENAME:첨부된 내역이 없습니다.DEPT_NM:수의학과EMAIL:[email protected]:
Bilateral anterior segment dysgenesis with the presumed Peters’ anomaly in a cat
A seven-month-old female domestic shorthaired cat was presented for buphthalmos in the right eye and corneal cloudiness in the left eye. Full ophthalmic examinations were performed for both eyes and enucleation was done for the right nonvisual eye. Congenital glaucoma caused by anterior segment dysgenesis was confirmed for the right eye. In the left eye, slit-lamp examination revealed focal corneal edema with several iris strands from iris collarette to the affected posterior corneal surfaces. Circular posterior corneal defect was suggested to be the cause of edema. Goniodysgenesis, additionally, was identified. Taken together, the diagnosis of Peters' anomaly which is a subtype of anterior segment dysgenesis was suggested in the left eye.OAIID:RECH_ACHV_DSTSH_NO:T201806858RECH_ACHV_FG:RR00200001ADJUST_YN:EMP_ID:A075461CITE_RATE:.803DEPT_NM:수의학과EMAIL:[email protected]_YN:YY
