    A multiplicative maximin-based evaluation approach for evolutionary many-objective optimization

    This paper presents a new fitness evaluation approach based on aggregated pairwise comparisons (APC), i.e., a multiplicative maximin fitness ranking indicator with norm-p (M2F-p), for solving multi/many-objective problems. The M2F-p uses an adjustable aggregation of pairwise comparisons induced by p to alleviate the incomparability of solutions in terms of Pareto dominance when the number of objectives increases. We analyze the search ability of M2F-p under different p values. It is shown that the p values can control the shape of contour lines (i.e., a set of equal M2F-p values), which can affect the convergence and uniformity of solutions. Then, we illustrate that the M2F-p offers a set of promising properties that can enhance the discriminability of solutions. Further, we develop an efficient algorithm based on M2F-p by using an adaptive p-selection strategy and a diversity-maintenance mechanism. We conduct experiments on a suit of test problems with up to 10 objectives. The experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm on both multi-objective problems and many-objective problems.</p

    Handling Constrained Multi-Objective optimization with Objective Space Mapping to Decision Space Based on Extreme Learning Machine

    Constrained multi-objective optimization is frequently encountered from the point of view of practical problem solving. The difficulty of constrained multi-objective optimization is how to offer guarantee of finding feasible optimal solutions within a specified number of iterations. To address the issue, this paper proposes an innovative optimization framework with objective space mapping to decision space for constrained multiobjective optimization and a novel multi-objective optimization algorithms are proposed based on this framework. Extreme learning machine implements prediction of decision variables from modified objective values with distance measure and adaptive penalty. This algorithm employs the framework of artificial bee colony to divide this optimization process into two phases: the employed bees and the onlooker bees. In the phase of employed bees, multi-objective strategy employs fast non-dominant sort and crowded distance to push the population toward Pareto front. In the phase of onlooker bees, multi-objective strategy employs Tchebycheff approach to enhance the population diversity. The experimental results on a series of benchmark problems suggest that our proposed algorithm is quite effective, in comparison to other state-of-the-art constrained multi-objective optimizers

    Multi-hive bee foraging algorithm for multi-objective optimal power flow considering the cost, loss, and emission

    This paper proposes a multi-hive multi-objective bee algorithm (M 2OBA) for optimal power flow (OPF) in power systems. The proposed M2OBA extend original artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm to multi-objective and cooperative mode by combining external archive, comprehensive learning, greedy selection, crowding distance, and cooperative search strategy. Our algorithm uses the concept of Pareto dominance and comprehensive learning mechanism to determine the flight direction of a bee and maintains nondominated solution vectors in external archive based on greedy selection and crowing distance strategies. With cooperative search approaches, the single population ABC has been extended to interacting multi-hive model by constructing colony-level interaction topology and information exchange strategies. With six mathematical benchmark functions, M2OBA is proved to have significantly better performance than three successful multi-objective optimizers, namely the fast non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II), the multi-objective particle swarm optimizer (MOPSO), and the multi-objective ABC (MOABC), for solving complex multi-objective optimization problems. M2OBA is then used for solving the real-world OPF problem that considers the cost, loss, and emission impacts as the objective functions. The 30-bus IEEE test system is presented to illustrate the application of the proposed algorithm. The simulation results, which are also compared to NSGA-II, MOPSO, and MOABC, are presented to illustrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method. &copy; 2014 Elsevier Ltd.
