    An iBeacon-Based Location-Aware Advertising System

    The billboard market near its end for the development of electric commerce, especially with the maturing of online advertising systems. Traditional billboards demand innova- tive ways to attract and categorize users; and to direct them to desired advertisements. Location information is the prerequisite to pinpoint the users or customers. Location in- formation collection, GPS and cellular networks are better for outdoor navigation than indoor positioning. The emergence of Bluetooth Low Energy technology provides an effi- cient approach for indoor positioning services. In this thesis, we propose an iBeacon based location aware advertising system to make users acquire the desired advertisement. The system includes the server side, user side and billboard side. We will go into details about its concept, implementation and related background in the thesis. Finally, we analyzed the performance of the system and showed that the system is suitable for indoor environments

    Scalable second-order consensus of hierarchical groups

    Motivated by widespread dominance hierarchy, growth of group sizes, and feedback mechanisms in social species, we are devoted to exploring the scalable second-order consensus of hierarchical groups. More specifically, a hierarchical group consists of a collection of agents with double-integrator dynamics on a directed acyclic graph with additional reverse edges, which characterize feedback mechanisms across hierarchical layers. As the group size grows and the reverse edges appear, we investigate whether the absolute velocity protocol and the relative velocity protocol can preserve the system consensus property without tuning the control gains. It is rigorously proved that the absolute velocity protocol is able to achieve completely scalable second-order consensus but the relative velocity protocol cannot. This result theoretically reveals how the scalable coordination behavior in hierarchical groups is determined by local interaction rules. Moreover, we develop a hierarchical structure in order to achieve scalable second-order consensus for networks of any size and with any number of reverse edges.Comment: 9 pages, 1 figur

    Fingolimod exerts in vitro anticancer activity against hepatocellular carcinoma cell lines via YAP/TAZ suppression

    Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains a notably global health challenge with high mortality rates and poor prognosis. The deregulation of the Hippo signalling pathway, especially the overexpression and activation of downstream effector Yes-associated protein (YAP), has been demonstrated to result in the rapid malignant evolution of HCC. In this context, multiple efforts have been dedicated to targeting YAP for HCC therapy, but effective YAP inhibitors are still lacking. In this study, through a YAP-TEAD (8×GTIIC) luciferase reporter assay, we identified fingolimod, an immunomodulatory drug approved for the treatment of multiple sclerosis, as a novel YAP inhibitor. Fingolimod suppressed the proliferation of HCC cell lines by downregulating the protein levels as well as the transactivating function of YAP. Overall, our current study not only identifies fingolimod as a novel YAP-targeting inhibitor, but also indicates that this clinically-approved drug could be utilized as a potential and feasible therapeutic drug for HCC

    Integrated micro/nano drug delivery system based on magnetically responsive phase-change droplets for ultrasound theranostics

    Phase-change droplets (PCDs) are intelligent responsive micro and nanomaterials developed based on micro/nano bubbles. Subject to external energy inputs such as temperature and ultrasound, the core substance, perfluorocarbon (PFC), undergoes a phase transition from liquid to gas. This transformation precipitates alterations in the PCDs’ structure, size, ultrasound imaging capabilities, drug delivery efficiency, and other pertinent characteristics. This gives them the ability to exhibit “intelligent responses”. This study utilized lipids as the membrane shell material and perfluorohexane (PFH) as the core to prepare lipid phase-change droplets. Superparamagnetic nanoparticles (PEG-functionalized Fe3O4 nanoparticles) and the anti-tumor drug curcumin (Cur) were loaded into the membrane shell, forming magnetic drug-loaded phase-change droplets (Fe-Cur-NDs). These nanoscale phase-change droplets exhibited excellent magnetic resonance/ultrasound imaging capabilities and thermal/ultrasound-mediated drug release. The Fe-Cur-NDs showed excellent anti-tumor efficacy for the MCF-7 cells under low-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU) guidance in vitro. Therefore, Fe-Cur-NDs represent a promising smart responsive theranostic integrated micro/nano drug delivery system

    The role of connectivity in significant bandgap narrowing for fused-pyrene based non-fullerene acceptors toward high-efficiency organic solar cells

    Great attention has been paid to developing low bandgap non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) for matching wide bandgap donor polymers to increase the photocurrent and therefore the power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of NFA organic solar cells, while pyrene-core based acceptor-donor-acceptor (A-D-A) NFAs have been mainly reported via the 2,9-position connection due to their bisthieno[3′,2′-b']thienyl[a,h]pyrene fused via a five-membered ring bridge at the ortho-position of pyrene as the representative one named FPIC5, which has prohibited further narrowing their energy gap. Herein, an acceptor FPIC6 was exploited by creating the 1,8-position connection through fusing as bisthieno[3′,2′-b′]thienyl[f-g,m-n]pyrene linked at the bay-position via a six-membered bridge, with enhanced push-pull characteristics within such A-D-A structure. As a structural isomer of FPIC5, FPIC6 exhibited a much lower bandgap of 1.42 eV (1.63 eV for FPIC5). Therefore, the photocurrent and PCE of PTB7-Th:FPIC6 cells were improved to 21.50 mA cm-2 and 11.55%, respectively, due to the balanced mobilities, better photoluminescence quenching efficiency and optimized morphology, which are both ∼40% better than those of PTB7-Th:FPIC5 cells. Our results clearly proved that a pyrene fused core with 1,8-position connection with electron-withdrawing end groups instead of 2,9-position connection is an efficient molecular design strategy to narrow the optical bandgap and improve the photovoltaic performance of NFA based OSCs

    Impact of epicardial adipose tissue volume on hemodynamically significant coronary artery disease in Chinese patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease

    BackgroundEpicardial adipose tissue (EAT) is directly related to coronary artery disease (CAD), but little is known about its role in hemodynamically significant CAD. Therefore, our goal is to explore the impact of EAT volume on hemodynamically significant CAD.MethodsPatients who underwent coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) and received coronary angiography within 30 days were retrospectively included. Measurements of EAT volume and coronary artery calcium score (CACs) were performed on a semi-automatic software based on CCTA images, while quantitative flow ratio (QFR) was automatically calculated by the AngioPlus system according to coronary angiographic images.ResultsThis study included 277 patients, 112 of whom had hemodynamically significant CAD and showed higher EAT volume. In multivariate analysis, EAT volume was independently and positively correlated with hemodynamically significant CAD [per standard deviation (SD) cm3; odds ratio (OR), 2.78; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.86–4.15; P < 0.001], but negatively associated with QFRmin (per SD cm3; β coefficient, −0.068; 95% CI, −0.109 to −0.027; P = 0.001) after adjustment for traditional risk factors and CACs. Receiver operating characteristics curve analysis demonstrated a significant improvement in predictive value for hemodynamically significant CAD with the addition of EAT volume to obstructive CAD alone (area under the curve, 0.950 vs. 0.891; P < 0.001).ConclusionIn this study, we found that EAT volume correlated substantially and positively with the existence and severity of hemodynamically significant CAD in Chinese patients with known or suspected CAD, which was independent of traditional risk factors and CACs. In combination with obstructive CAD, EAT volume significantly improved diagnostic performance for hemodynamically significant CAD, suggesting that EAT could be a reliable noninvasive indicator of hemodynamically significant CAD

    Study on simulation effect of physical and chemical characteristics of sausage by sausage model system

    IntroductionThe incorporation of Staphylococcus xylosus in sausage production is hypothesized to affect various physicochemical properties and flavor profiles of sausages. This study aimed to evaluate the simulation of these features in a sausage model and establish its applicability for in vitro studies.MethodsBoth a control and an experimental model, inclusive of Staphylococcus xylosus, were assessed for changes in physicochemical indexes (pH and water activity, Aw) and the concentration of flavoring components (esters and aldehydes). Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) values were also measured to evaluate lipid oxidation.ResultsThe introduction of Staphylococcus xylosus resulted in no significant changes in pH and Aw between the sausage and the model. However, there was a considerable increase in the content of volatile flavor compounds, specifically esters and aldehydes, in the experimental groups compared to the control. Additionally, the TBARS values in experimental groups were significantly lower than those in the control group at the end of the testing period.DiscussionThe findings indicate that Staphylococcus xylosus plays a critical role in enhancing the flavor profile of sausages through the increased synthesis of volatile compounds and inhibiting fat oxidation. The sausage model effectively simulated the physicochemical and flavor index responses, demonstrating its potential utility for further in vitro research on sausage fermentation and preservation techniques

    This paper reviews the NTIRE 2024 RAW Image Super-Resolution Challenge, highlighting the proposed solutions and results. New methods for RAW Super-Resolution could be essential in modern Image Signal Processing (ISP) pipelines, however, this problem is not as explored as in the RGB domain. Th goal of this challenge is to upscale RAW Bayer images by 2x, considering unknown degradations such as noise and blur. In the challenge, a total of 230 participants registered, and 45 submitted results during thee challenge period.     The increased tendency for anemia in traditional Chinese medicine deficient body constitution is associated with the gut microbiome

    BackgroundConstitution is a valuable part of traditional Chinese medicine theory; it is defined as the internal foundation for the occurrence, development, transformation and outcome of diseases, and has its characteristic gut microbiota. Previous study showed that deficiency constitution was related to lower Hb counts. However, no research has examined how alterations in the gut microbiome induced by deficiency constitution may increase the tendency for anemia.MethodsWe used a multiomics strategy to identify and quantify taxonomies and compounds found under deficient constitution individuals and further explore the possible pathological factors that affect red blood cell indices.Results① People with deficient constitution showed lower hemoglobin (Hb), more Firmicutes, less Bacteroidetes, and higher α diversity. ② We identified Escherichia coli, Clostridium bolteae, Ruminococcus gnavus, Streptococcus parasanguinis and Flavonifractor plautii as potential biomarkers of deficient constitution. ③ Slackia piriformis, Clostridium_sp_L2_50 and Bacteroides plebeius were enriched in balanced-constitution individuals, and Parabacteroides goldsteinii was the key bacterial marker of balanced constitution. ④ Flavonifractor plautii may be a protective factor against the tendency for anemia among deficient individuals. ⑤ Ruminococcus gnavus may be the shared microbe base of deficiency constitution-related the tendency for anemia. ⑥ The microorganism abundance of the anaerobic phenotype was lower in deficient constitution group. ⑦ Alterations in the microbiome of deficient-constitution individuals were associated with worse health status and a greater risk of anemia, involving intestinal barrier function, metabolism and immune responses, regulated by short-chain fatty acids and bile acid production.ConclusionThe composition of the gut microbiome was altered in people with deficient constitution, which may explain their poor health status and tendency toward anemia
