Branching ratios and CP asymmetries of decays in the pQCD approach
We calculate the branching ratios and CP violating asymmetries of the four B
\to K \etap decays in the perturbative QCD (pQCD) factorization approach.
Besides the full leading order contributions, the partial next-to-leading order
(NLO) contributions from the QCD vertex corrections, the quark loops, and the
chromo-magnetic penguins are also taken into account. The NLO pQCD predictions
for the CP-averaged branching ratios are , Br(B^\pm \to K^\pm \etar) \approx 51.0 \times 10^{-6},
, and Br(B^0 \to K^0 \etar)
\approx 50.3 \times 10^{-6}. The NLO contributions can provide a 70%
enhancement to the LO Br(B \to K \etar), but a 30% reduction to the LO , which play the key role in understanding the observed pattern of
branching ratios. The NLO pQCD predictions for the CP-violating asymmetries,
such as \acp^{dir} (K^0_S \etar) \sim 2.3% and \acp^{mix}(K^0_S \etar)\sim
63%, agree very well with currently available data. This means that the
deviation \Delta S=\acp^{mix}(K^0_S \etar) - \sin{2\beta} in pQCD approach is
also very small.Comment: 31 pages, 11 ps/eps figures, typos corrected. A little modificatio
Precise Measurement of Gravity Variations During a Total Solar Eclipse
The variations of gravity were measured with a high precision LaCoste-Romberg
D gravimeter during a total solar eclipse to investigate the effect of solar
eclipse on the gravitational field. The observed anomaly m/s during the eclipse implies that there may be a shielding
property of gravitation
Heteroepitaxial Growth of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes from Boron Nitride
The growth of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with predefined structure is of great importance for both fundamental research and their practical applications. Traditionally, SWCNTs are grown from a metal catalyst with a vapor-liquid-solid mechanism, where the catalyst is in liquid state with fluctuating structures, and it is intrinsically unfavorable for the structure control of SWCNTs. Here we report the heteroepitaxial growth of SWCNTs from a platelet boron nitride nanofiber (BNNF), which is composed of stacked (002) planes and is stable at high temperatures. SWCNTs are found to grow epitaxially from the open (002) edges of the BNNFs, and the diameters of the SWCNTs are multiples of the BN (002) interplanar distance. In situ transmission electron microscopy observations coupled with first principles calculations reveal that the growth of SWCNTs from the BNNFs follows a vapor-solid-solid mechanism. Our work opens opportunities for the control over the structure of SWCNTs by hetero-crystallographic epitaxy.Peer reviewe
New Vacuum Solar Telescope and Observations with High Resolution
The New Vacuum Solar Telescope (NVST) is a 1 meter vacuum solar telescope
that aims to observe the fine structures on the Sun. The main tasks of NVST are
high resolution imaging and spectral observations, including the measurements
of solar magnetic field. NVST is the primary ground-based facility of Chinese
solar community in this solar cycle. It is located by the Fuxian Lake of
southwest China, where the seeing is good enough to perform high resolution
observations. In this paper, we first introduce the general conditions of
Fuxian Solar Observatory and the primary science cases of NVST. Then, the basic
structures of this telescope and instruments are described in detail. Finally,
some typical high resolution data of solar photosphere and chromosphere are
also shown.Comment: 16 pages, 14 figures, accepted by RAA (Research in Astronomy and

Anti-Bladder-Tumor Effect of Baicalein from Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi and Its Application In Vivo
Some phytochemicals with the characteristics of cytotoxicity and/or antimetastasis have generated intense interest among the anticancer studies. In this study, a natural flavonoid baicalein was evaluated in bladder cancer in vitro and in vivo. Baicalein inhibits 5637 cell proliferation. It arrests cells in G1 phase at 100 μM and in S phase below 75 μM. The protein expression of cyclin B1 and cyclin D1 is reduced by baicalein. Baicalein-induced p-ERK plays a minor role in cyclin B1 reduction. Baicalein-inhibited p65NF-κB results in reduction of cell growth. Baicalein-induced pGSK(ser9) has a little effect in increasing cyclin B1/D1 expression instead. The translation inhibitor cycloheximide blocks baicalein-reduced cyclin B1, suggesting that the reduction is caused by protein synthesis inhibition. On the other hand, neither cycloheximide nor proteasome inhibitor MG132 completely blocks baicalein-reduced cyclin D1, suggesting that baicalein reduces cyclin D1 through protein synthesis inhibition and proteasomal degradation activation. In addition, baicalein also inhibits cell invasion by inhibiting MMP-2 and MMP-9 mRNA expression and activity. In mouse orthotopic bladder tumor model, baicalein slightly reduces tumor size but with some hepatic toxicity. In summary, these results demonstrate the anti-bladder-tumor properties of the natural compound baicalein which shows a slight anti-bladder-tumor effect in vivo
