Oscillatory Behavior of Critical Amplitudes of the Gaussian Model on a Hierarchical Structure

We studied oscillatory behavior of critical amplitudes for the Gaussian model on a hierarchical structure presented by a modified Sierpinski gasket lattice. This model is known to display non-standard critical behavior on the lattice under study. The leading singular behavior of the correlation length $\xi$ near the critical coupling $K=K_c$ is modulated by a function which is periodic in $\ln|\ln(K_c-K)|$. We have also shown that the common finite-size scaling hypothesis, according to which for a finite system at criticality $\xi$ should be of the order of the size of system, is not applicable in this case. The Development of Self Structures and Active Coping

In addition to cope with usual stressful circumstances at work, nowadays, it is important to examine what kind of mental capacities of medical staff are adaptive in respect of a new type of stress – job insecurity. Special focus is put upon self structures as personality determinants and the role they have in coping.. The aim of the study was to determine the role of the self structures in active coping with job insecurity. It was supposed that the increasing integration of self structures leads to increasing use of active coping strategies. Perceived job insecurity was measured by The job insecurity perception scale (Knežević and Majstorović, 2013). The Ego Functioning Questionnaire (Majstorović, Legault and Green-Demers, 2008) was used to evaluate types of ego-functioning; coping were assessed by the Cybernetic coping scale (Edwards and Baglioni, 1993). In order to test the hypothesis the multivariate regression analysis was developed with self-regulation as predictor and active coping strategy as a criterion. A significant model F(3, 306) = 26,73, p < 0,001, was obtained with all the predictors selected as significant. The prediction directions were as expected - Integrated and Ego-investing self were positive predictors (β = 0,35, p < 0,001, and β = 0,16, p < 0,01, respectively), while the impersonal self singled out as a negative predictor (β = –0,13, p < 0,05). The results have shown that the development of self structures is valid predictor for the active coping of medical staff when facing with job insecurity

Relations Between Dispositional Expressivity and Physiological Changes During Acute Positive and Negative Affect

The aim of the present study is to examine the relations between emotional expressivity measured by Berkeley Expressivity Questionnaire and physiological response in situations where positive and negative affects were induced. On 65 participants four physiological parameters, including finger pulse amplitude, heart rate, skin conductance level and amplitude of skin conductance response were measured. In situations in which negative affect was induced, individuals higher in negative expressivity showed higher skin conductance level, higher amplitude of skin conductance response and higher heart rate compared to individuals low on negative expressivity, whereas finger pulse amplitude did not differ between these two groups. The same results were obtained even when controlling for five factor personality traits and recorded participants’ facial expression. In situation where a positive affect was induced, no differences in sympathetic responses between participants high and low in positive expressivity have been found. The results are explained in the context of Coactivation theory and possible consequences of the results on health outcomes are discussed

Central Hemangioma of the Mandible: Case Report

Autori opisuju centralni hemangiom donje čeljusti dijagnosticiran radiološki i patohistološki, a kirurški se postupak komplicirao zbog naknadnog krvarenja koje je zaustavljeno dodatnim kirurškim zahvatom. Kako je centralni hemangiom čeljusti dosta rijedak - što potvrđuje i navedena literatura – a moguće komplikacije kod te patološke promjene mogu biti izrazito opasne, svrha prikaza je istaknuti kliničke, radiološke i patohistološke karakteristike te tvorbe. Usporedba s drugim slučajem - koji je radiološki izgledao kao policističan tumor čeljusti, ali je tijekom zahvata počelo obilno krvarenje te je odgođen nastavak zahvata i indicirala se dodatna angiografska i radiološka obrada - pokazala je da nema karakteristične kliničke i radiološke slike koja bi mogla upozoravati na takve promjene. Raznolikost radioloških slika u svjetskoj literaturi upozorava da svaka transparencija u čeljusti među patološkim promjenama može biti i centralni hamangiom. Prikazani slučajevi potvrđuju takvo mišljenje.The authors present a case of central hemangioma of the mandible which was diagnosed radiographically and histopathologically. The surgical procedure was complicated by subsequent bleeding which was stopped by an additional surgical procedure. As central hemangioma of the jaws is a relatively rare findings, which can be observed from the relevant literature, and possible complications can be extremely dramatic, the aim of the presentation is to emphasise the clinical, radiographic and histopathological characteristics of this formation. Comparison with another case, which radiographically resembled a polycystic tumour of the jaw and which bled profusely during the operation, causing the postponement of the operation and indicating the need for additional angiographic and radiotherapy, demonstrated that there are no characteristic clinical and radiographic appearances which can indicate the possibility of such changes. The diversity of the radiographic appearances presented in the world literature shows that apart from other pathological changes any transparency in the jaws may also be a central hemangioma. Surgical-Orthodontic Treatment of Developmental Odontogenic Cysts of the Jaws

Prikazani su rezultati kirurško-ortodontskoga liječenja odontogenih razvojnih cista sa svrhom da se upozori na važnost trajnoga timskog rada ortodonta i oralnoga kirurga u rješavanju svakoga pojedinog slučaja, ma kako se neki od njih činili jednostavnima. Takvom suradnjom moguće je sačuvati retinirane ili impaktirane zube i u slučajevima kad se čini da to neće biti moguće. Primjer liječenja velike folikularne ciste u osmogodišnje djevojčice dokaz je uspješnosti takve suradnje. Autori predstavljaju i suvremene spoznaje o liječenju odontogenih cista, upozoravaju na lokalnu invazivnost odontogene keratociste i najavljuju rezultate uporabe resorbilnoga granulata trikalcijeva fosfata.The results are shown of surgical-orthodontic treatment of developmental odontogenic cysts of the jaws with the purpose of demonstrating the importance of long-term teamwork of the orthodontist and oral surgeon in resolving each individual case, despite the fact that some cases may appear to be simple. Such cooperation enables the preservation of impacted teeth, even in cases when this appears almost impossible. The example presented of treatment of a large follicular cyst in an eight-year old girl is proof of the success of such cooperation. The authors also present contemporary knowledge on the treatment of odontogenic cysts, warn of the local invasive nature of odontogenic keratocysts and show the results of the application of resorptive granular tricalcium phosphate
