CONCEPTUALIZATION OF SOCIAL CAPITAL IN CROSS-SECTIONAL DESIGN STUDIES: RAPID REVIEW OF LITERATURE
Social capital is a concept that is widely studied in different fields of science, in different dimensions of this concept, and consists of a number of elements, including trust, sense of belonging and affiliation. Given the multidimensional nature of social capital, researchers point to the challenges of its conceptualization and operationalization of its elements. Objective: To identify cross-sectional design studies, with nationally representative samples from European countries, where each study assessed following social capital elements: either trust and sense of belonging, or trust and affiliation, to identify other included social capital elements, to clarify how these elements are operationalized, to identify what social capital determinants are taken into account and what social capital manifestations have been evaluated.Method: Cross-sectional design studies, with nationally representative samples for European countries, conducted between 2014 and 2019, were sought in Science Direct, ProQuest, SAGE, EBSCO, Google Scholar, using the key words āsocial capitalā, ātrustā, āsense of belongingā and their synonyms. The methodological quality was assessed by Appraisal tool for Cross-Sectional Studies (Axis). Results: From initially identified 173 studies, the literature review included 3 studies. The included studies identify determinants of social capital (socio-demographic factors (2 studies) and political affiliation (1 study)) and manifestations of social capital (self-rated health (1 study), loneliness (1 study), willingness to pay for environmental quality (1 study)). The included studies define the bonding, bridging and linking types of social capital, as well as the structural and cognitive dimensions of social capital. The studies assessed and operationalized the following social capital elements: trust (3 studies), sense of belonging (1 study), support (1 study), frequency of contacts (2 studies), participation in associations (1 study), religious affiliation (1 study), civic activity (2 studies).

MUSIC THERAPY FOR STROKE PATIENTS: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW WITH META-ANALYSIS
There are numerous trials, showing positive results for using the music therapy for stroke patient rehabilitation. Therefore, summarizing the data from these trials is an actual topic. The objective, of this research, was to summarize the data from trials about the use of music therapy methods and techniques, especially the rhythmic auditory stimulation, for improving of the motor functions for stroke patients, by creating a systematic review of randomized controlled trials, with meta-analysis. The trials where searched in MEDLINE, Cochrane Trial Register and EBSO databases. The trial quality was evaluated by the PEDro scale. 20 randomized controlled trials were included in the systematic review. The meta-analysis for 5 gait outcomes, including gait speed, steps per minute, step length, gait symmetry, Time up and go test, and 7 arm function outcomes, including Fugl-Meyer test, ARAT test, Box and blocks test, Wolf motor function test, Nine hole peg test, shoulder flexion, elbow extension, was conducted. According to the results of the meta-analysis, gait exercises, combined with rhythmic auditory stimulation, provide statistically significant improvement, compared with gait exercises alone. Concerning the use of rhythmic auditory stimulation and other music therapy interventions for arm function rehabilitation, a statistically significant improvement was not detected.
CONVERGENT VALIDITY OF THE SECOND VERSION OF THE MULTIDIMENSIONAL SOCIAL CAPITAL SCALE (MSCS V2)
Studies show that social capital has a positive effect on a person's mental health and subjective well-being. Recently, a second version of the Multidimensional Social Capital Scale (MSCS V2) has been developed in Latvia. The aim of this study is to verificate the psychometric properties of the MSCS V2 and to investigate its relationship to self-reported measures of loneliness and subjective well-being. Data was collected online between June 11th and October 3rd, 2021. Participants (N=353, aged between 18 and 80 years (M = 41.8, SD = 13.18), 87% females and 13% males) in addition to the MSCS V2 were asked to complete the UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3, the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), and the Scale of Positive and Negative Experience (SPANE). The results show: the Cronbach alpha of the MSCS V2 scales meets the scientific requirements ranged from .73 to .90; Corrected Item-Total Correlations for all MSCS V2 scales are acceptable ranged from .53 ā .81 and reaction indexes fall within the range of 2.67 to 4.48; a statistically significant negative association between the MSCS V2 scales and the UCLA Loneliness scale; statistically significant positive association between the MSCS V2 scales and the SWLS; statistically significant positive association between the MSCS V2 scales and the SPANE. The convergent validity of the scale was demonstrated by negative correlations with self-reported loneliness and positive correlations with subjective well-being measures
Dance and movement therapya mixed-methods systematic review
Changes caused by aging manifest themselves in physical, cognitive, emotional and social areas. Dance and movement therapy ensures that it is possible to work with a client in all four areas āpromote physical activity, stimulatecognitive functions, activateemotional component andencouragesocialinteractions. The aim of this research was to create a mixed methods systematic review on dance and movement therapy (DMT) for seniors, to assess the methodological quality of included studies, analyse structural and content indicators of applied DMT interventions, their effect and experience of seniors gained during dance and movement therapy sessions. Findings suggestthat the methodological quality of studies varies from high to low. Data acquired by meta-analysis indicates a statistically significant reduction of depression scores for research (DMT)group in comparison to control group (95% CI: -3.74 to -2.52, total effect Z = 10.05 (P < 0.00001)). Qualitative data shows changes in all four areas as well as provides dance and movement therapists with a framework for different client groups such as individualswith depression, Parkinsonās disease, etc. Further research onseniorsā experiences is neededpublishersversionPeer reviewe
Development and Initial Validation of the Second Version of the Multidimensional Social Capital Scale (MSCS V2)
This article describes the development and initial validation of the second version of the Multidimensional Social Capital Scale (MSCS V2). The scale is based on the concept of Social Capital (SC) developed based on the results of the Rapid Review. The developed theoretical concept covers such types of SC as bonding, bridging, and linking, and there are two dimensions in each of these types: cognitive and structural. The initial version of the Multidimensional Social Capital Scale (MSCS) covered only the cognitive dimension of all three types of SC. This study aimed to develop an improved second expanded version of the MSCS V2 and to evaluate its psychometric properties. Data were collected online in the period from 11th June to 3rd October 2021, using a cross-sectional study design and a convenience sample strategy (N=353, 87% women and 13% men), aged between 18 and 80 years, M=41.8 years). As a result, the 25-item version of the MSCS V2 was developed. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) revealed a 6-factor structure that encompasses the following types and elements of cognitive dimension: two types of bonding (Perceived social support or family members and close friends and Sense of belonging), two types of bridging (Perceived social support for acquaintances and General social trust), one type of linking (Institutional trust) and for Structural dimension: one type of bonding (Social participation). This 6-factor structure was approved using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Overall, the items are internally consistent on all scales (Ī± = .73 - .90). Findings from this study showed significant evidence for the reliability and validity of the MSCS V2 and it would be advisable to repeat the study in a homogeneous sample, including full socio-demographic datapublishersversionPeer reviewe
Factors Related to COVID-19 Preventive Behaviors : A Structural Equation Model
Funding Information: The work was supported by Grant No. VPP-COVID-2020/1-0011 of the National Research Program of Latvia. Publisher Copyright: Ā© Copyright Ā© 2021 Å uriÅa, Martinsone, Perepjolkina, Kolesnikova, Vainik, Ruža, Vrublevska, Smirnova, Fountoulakis and Rancans. Background: While COVID-19 has rapidly spread around the world, and vaccines are not widely available to the general population, the World Health Organization outlines preventive behavior as the most effective way to limit the rapid spread of the virus. Preventive behavior is associated with a number of factors that both encourage and discourage prevention. Aim: The aim of this research was to study COVID-19 threat appraisal, fear of COVID-19, trust in COVID-19 information sources, COVID-19 conspiracy beliefs and the relationship of socio-demographic variables (gender, age, level of education, place of residence, and employment status) to COVID-19 preventive behavior. Methods: The data originate from a national cross-sectional online survey (N = 2,608) undertaken in July 2020. The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results: COVID-19 threat appraisal, trust in COVID-19 information sources, and fear of COVID-19 are all significant predictors of COVID-19 preventive behaviors. Together they explain 26.7% of the variance of this variable. COVID-19 conspiracy beliefs significantly negatively predict COVID-19 threat appraisal (R2 = 0.206) and trust in COVID-19 information sources (R2 = 0.190). COVID-19 threat appraisal contributes significantly and directly to the explanation of the fear of COVID-19 (R2 = 0.134). Directly, as well as mediated by COVID-19 conspiracy beliefs, threat appraisal predicts trust in COVID-19 information sources (R2 = 0.190). The relationship between COVID-19 threat appraisal and COVID-19 preventive behaviors is partially mediated by fear of COVID-19 (indirect effect 28.6%) and trust in information sources (15.8%). Socio-demographic variables add very little in prediction of COVID-19 preventive behavior. Conclusions: The study results demonstrate that COVID-19 threat appraisal is the most important factor associated with COVID-19 preventive behavior. Those Latvian residents with higher COVID-19 threat appraisal, experienced higher levels of fear of COVID-19, had more trust in COVID-19 information sources, and were more actively involved in following COVID-19 preventive behaviors. COVID-19 conspiracy beliefs negatively predict COVID-19 threat appraisal and trust in COVID-19 information sources, but not the COVID-19 preventive behaviors. Socio-demographic factors do not play an important role here.publishersversionPeer reviewe

Ar Covid-19 preventÄ«vo uzvedÄ«bu saistÄ«tie faktori Latvijas iedzÄ«votÄju populÄcijÄ. Promocijas darba kopsavilkums
The Doctoral Thesis was developed at RÄ«ga StradiÅÅ” University, Latvia. Defence: at the public session of the Promotion Council of Psichology on 19 December 2022 at 11.30, Dzirciema Street 16, Hippocrates Lecture Theatre and remotely via online platform Zoom. The aim of the Doctoral Thesis was to study the factors related to COVID-19 preventive behaviour in the population of Latvia. The Thesis was developed in two stages. Stage one theoretically established and empirically tested an integrated model of factors related to COVID-19 preventative behaviour, stage two theoretically established and empirically tested an integrated model of factors related to COVID-19 vaccination behaviour.Sample. The first stage used data from a sample of Latvian residents (n = 2608), aged 18 to 74 (M = 46.42, SD = 13.86). The second stage used data from a representative sample of the population of Latvia (n = 1017), by administrative territorial division, aged 18 to 75 years (M = 46.53, SD = 16.22).Instrumentary. The first stage of the study assessed COVID-19 preventive behaviour, trust in COVID-19 information sources, fear of COVID-19, assessment of COVID-19 threats, belief in COVID-19 conspiracy theories. The second stage of the study dealt with: COVID-19 vaccination behaviour, rationale for vaccination, perceived vulnerability, fear of COVID-19, institutional trust, perceived social support from the immediate family and perceived social support from acquaintances.Procedure. The first stage of the study used data from the Institute of Public Health National research programme (NRP) project āImpact of COVID-19 on health care system and public health in Latvia; ways in preparing health sector for future epidemicsā poll āEvaluation of the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on mental healthā. The data was collected by research centre KANTAR, organising an internet survey in July, 2020. The second stage used data from the NRP āLife with COVID-19: Evaluation of overcoming the coronavirus crisis in Latvia and recommendations for societal resilience in the futureā. The data was collected by research centre SKDS, organising direct interviews at respondentsā places of residence in September, 2021.Results. The results of the first stage of the Doctoral Thesis revealed, that COVID-19 preventive behaviour is associated with an assessment of COVID-19 threats, trust in COVID-19 information sources and fear of COVID-19, but not with belief in COVID-19 conspiracy theories. Among the sociodemographic factors, age (older age) and gender (female), but not education, region (location of residence) and employment status, are associated with preventive behaviour for COVID-19. Stage two results revealed that motives to protect themselves from illness, to protect other people from illness and to promote collective immunity, to continue to working and / or study, as well as institutional trust and education (higher education), are associated with COVID-19 vaccination behaviour. Perceived social support from relatives is negatively linked to vaccination behaviour, while perceived vulnerability, fear of COVID-19, perceived social support from acquaintances, age and gender are not factors related to COVID-19 vaccination behaviour.Conclusions. COVID-19 preventive behaviour is associated with assessment of COVID-19 threats, fear of COVID-19, trust in COVID-19 information sources, age (higher age) and gender (female gender). COVID-19 vaccination behaviour is associated with motives to get vaccinated to protect yourself from illness, to protect other people from illness and to promote collective immunity, to continue to working and/or study, as well as institutional trust and level of education (higher education).State Research Program Project āChallenges and solutions of the Latvian state and society in an international context (INTERFRAME-LV)ā No.VPP-IZM-2018-/1-0005; SRP Project āImpact of COVID-19 on health care system and public health in Latvia; ways in preparing health sector for future epidemicsā, No. VPP-COVID-2020/1-0011; SRP Project āLife with COVID-19: Evaluation of overcoming the coronavirus crisis in Latvia and recommendations for societal resilience in the futureā, No. VPP-COVID-2020/1-001
