Microwave assisted electrolysis of alkaline water solution
The effect of microwaves (MW) on the electrolytic process of 6M KOH water solution is investigated in the temperature range from 291 K to 337 K. At lower temperatures, microwaves facilitate electrolytic process, whereas the effect is reversed at higher temperatures.Physical chemistry 2006 : 8th international conference on fundamental and applied aspects of physical chemistry; Belgrade (Serbia); 26-29 September 200

SUPPLY, DEMAND AND ELASTICITY OF FISH
We studied the factors that determine supply, demand and elasticity of consumption of fish in the world, EU and Serbia. The annual fish supply in the world is 145 million tons with a rate increase of 1.9%. World production per capita is 21.3 kg and the consumption is 17.2 kg. Production in the EU amounts to 12 million tons of fish and participates in the world`s production with 8.3%. Consumption per capita has stagnated at 22 kg. Fish production in Serbia is 12.5 thousand tons and records an increase rate of 20%. Production per capita is 1.7 kg, and the consumption is 5.7 kg. The income elasticity of consumption of fish in the EU is inelastic and is 0.423, and -0.311 in price. In Serbia, income elasticity of fish consumption is 0.549, and -0.402 in price. The elasticity of fish consumption compared to the prices of pork and chicken meat is positive, low and shows that these meat are substitutes. Regression parameters show that an increase in income causes a greater demand for fish, and increase in prices of fish has influenced decreased demand
MEASUREMENT OF COMPARATIVE ADVANTAGES OF PROCESSED FOOD SECTOR OF SERBIA IN THE INCREASING THE EXPORT
The subject of this research is to analyse the comparative advantages of export of processed
food sector, in order to define the position of the processed food sector in Serbia in compare
to the Danube region and highlight the products that were and will be the main exporting
agricultural product of Serbia. In this research, we have applied the following indexes: RXA,
RTA, ln RXA, RC, RCA, LFI, GL, Sm. We have examined the movement of the index for the
period 2005 - 2011th year. We have investigated the existence of correlations RCA index of
processed food sectors with the application of the Pearson and Spearman index determined
as RCA variable mutual co-variant. We found that following products showed an increase
of comparative advantage in export as measured by the Balassa index: milk products,
cheese and curd, groats and meal of other cereals, preparations of cereals, flour, starch,
vegetables, roots and tubers, processed, prepared and Fruit products, sugar, molasses and
honey, chocolate and other food preparations with cocoa, animal food (including un milled
cereals), edible products and preparations, alcoholic beverages, non-alcoholic beverages,
solid vegetable fats, oils, ‘ soft ‘ and animal and vegetable fats
MACROECONOMIC INDICATORS, TRADE AND COMPETITIVENESS COUNTRIES IN THE DANUBE REGION
This paper observes macroeconomic performance of the Danube region countries, with a special focus on Serbia, as well as the increase of GDP, inflation, unemployment, public debt share, external debt, foreign direct investment (FDI), current- account deficit and shares of export and import in GDP. The Danube region countries have different characteristics of economic development and different degrees of competitiveness in the international market. The subject of this research is the analysis of macroeconomic performance and influence of foreign trade on the economic development of the Danube region countries, paying special attention to Serbia, with the aim to improve its position in the international market. This study points to the presence of a high degree of correlation between economic development, level of GDP and foreign trade. The conducted research proved that there is significant interdependence among the mentioned parameters, supporting our thesis that the increase of export positively affects the level of GDP
Aberrations of chromosome 8 in myelodysplastic syndromes: Clinical and biological significance
Introduction: Rearrangements of any single chromosome in human karyotype have been reported in patients with pMDS. Objective: To examine the role of aberrations of chromosome 8 in pathogenesis, clinical presentation and progression of myelodysplastic syndromes. Method: Cytogenetic analysis of bone marrow cells was carried out by direct method and by means of 24- and/or 48-hour unstimulated cell culture. Chromosomes were obtained by modified method of HG-bands. Results: On presentation, 109 out of 271 successfully karyotyped patients (40,2%) had abnormal karyotypes. Among them, 22 patients (10.9%) had aberrations of chromosome 8. Ten patients had trisomy 8 as "simple" aberration whilst additional three cases had trisomy 8 included in "complex" karyotypes (≥3 chromosomes). Cases with constitutional trisomy 8 mosaicism (CT8M) were excluded using the chromosome analyses of PHA-stimulated blood cultures. On the contrary, monosomy (seven patients) or deletion of chromosome 8 (two patients) were exclusively found in "complex" karyotypes. During prolonged cytogenetic follow-up, trisomy 8 was not recorded in evolving karyotypes. In contrast, trisomy 8 disappeared in two cases during subsequent cytogenetic studies, i.e. 23 and 72 months from diagnosis, accompanied in one patient with complete hematological remission. No difference regarding age, sex, cytopenia, blood and marrow blast count or response to treatment was found between patients with trisomy 8 as the sole aberration compared to those with normal cytogenetics. Median survival of patients with trisomy 8 as the sole aberration was 27 months, as compared to 32 months in patients with normal cytogenetics (p=0.468), whilst median survival of patients with aberrations of chromosome 8 included in "complex" karyotypes was only 4 months. Conclusion: Aberrations of chromosome 8 are common in patients with pMDS. The presence of a clone with trisomy 8 is not always the sign of disease progression or poor prognosis in MDS patients, in contrast to clones with aberrations of chromosome 8 manifesting the loss of genetic material
Multistage alkaline permanganate degradation of a type II kerogen
The products of a 27-step alkaline permanganate degradation of a type II kerogen from a sample of Toarcian shale, Paris Basin, have been studied. The high yield of oxidation products consisted of 1.86% neutrals and bases, 24.48% ether-soluble acids, and 45.95% precipitated, ether-insoluble acids, based on weight of original kerogen. The ether-soluble acids and the soluble products of further permanganate degradation of precipitated acids were found to consist mostly of saturated unbranched C6-C22 α,ω-dicarboxylic and C9-C25 monocarboxylic acids. Significant amounts of aromatic monocarboxylic, dicarboxylic and tricarboxylic acids were also found. Alkane tri- and tetracarboxylic acids were obtained in small concentration
Pulmonary involvement in siblings with Gaucher disease type III
Introduction. Pulmonary involvement has been described in all types of Gaucher disease (GD) but it is considered as relatively rare manifestation. There are reports suggesting that homozygosity for L444P mutation in GBA gene is associated with a substantial risk for developing primary pulmonary disease in GD. Case report. We reported sisters with pulmonary involvement in GD type III. Respiratory failure with fatal outcome at 3 years and 4 months of age occurred in K.K. due to pulmonary complications of GD. At the time enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) was not available in Serbia. J.K., homozygous for L444P mutation, developed asymptomatic pulmonary involvement at the age of 6 after 2.5 years of ERT. Pulmonary disease in J.K. was verified by high resolution computerized tomography, cytology of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and histopathology of transbronchial lung biopsy. Conclusion. Primary lung disease in children homoallelic for L444P mutation in GBA gene emerges as a significant clinical manifestation of GD with unclear response to ERT
