Studying Social Aspects of Vegetarianism: A Research Proposal on the Basis of a Survey Among Adult Population of Two Slovenian Biggest Cities
The article discuses the fundamental characteristics of vegetarianism as a heterogeneous and controversial practice, and tries to asses its scope in contemporary Western world. In the central part it presents the main results of the empirical study of vegetarianism and its perceptions on a representative sample of adult residents of the two largest cities in Slovenia, Ljubljana and Maribor. On this basis, the author proposes a more comprehensive design of quantitative and qualitative research on social aspects of vegetarianism and responses to it
Emocionalizacija i privatizacija politiÄke komunikacije na Facebooku : Faktori koji stimuliraju interakciju graÄana?
Social media are usually accused of being one of the major forces for personalization of āpolitical communication and consequently for depolitization of recent politics. However, personalization āseems to stimulate certain users to pay more attention to political issues and to act more responsively to āsuch highly personalized political profiles. This article presents the results of a longitudinal analysis of āonline presence of Barack Obama to assess his political communication through Facebook. It also answers āif presence of emotional appeals and private life cues in the posts have any effect on usersā responses inā terms of numbers of their likes, comments and shares. Based on a quantitative analysis of 2804 Facebook āposts, published in the period from 2008 to 2016, the results of content analysis revealed that Obama āused his Facebook fan page almost exclusively to communicate about political issues instead of his āpersonal life. The analysis also confirmed that a smaller number of posts, which contained emotional āappeals or cues from private life had significantly higher numbers of usersā responses than posts that āwere not emotionalized or privatized. While personalization of Obamaās political figure is part of a widerā debate, this study confirms that the presence of private cues and emotional appeals stimulates greaterā responsiveness from Facebook users.āDruÅ”tveni mediji su Äesto optuživani kao jedan od glavnih stimulatora personalizacije politiÄke ākomunikacija, a posljediÄno i kao jedan od faktora koji utjeÄu na depolitizaciju suvremene politike. Ipak,ā personalizacija može potaknuti odreÄene korisnike da viÅ”e pažnje posvete politiÄkim temama te daā djeluju responsivnije prema personaliziranim politiÄkim profilima. U ovom Älanku su prezentirani rezultatiā longitudinalne analize politiÄke komunikacije Baracka Obame na njegovoj Facebook stranici. Istraživanje āje pokuÅ”alo odgovoriti na pitanje u kojoj mjeri je Obama putem Facebooka komunicirao politiÄke teme,ā a u kojoj mjeri osobni profil, te ima li prisutnost emocija i referenci na privatni život u postovima odreÄeniā efekt na korisnike Facebooka, mjereno kroz broj lajkova, komentara i dijeljenja koje ti odreÄeni postoviā dobiju. OslanjajuÄi se na rezultate kvantitativne analize sadržaja koja je provedena na 2804 Facebook āposta koji su objavljeni na Obaminoj stranici u razdoblju od 2008. do 2016., istraživanje je otkrilo kako āje Obama svoju Facebook stranicu koristio prvenstveno za komuniciranje politiÄkih tema, a tek onda iā osobnog profila. Dok je personalizacija Obamine politiÄke komunikacije na Facebooku predmet opÅ”irnijeā rasprave, ovo istraživanje potvrÄuje kako postovi koji sadrže emocije i reference na privatni profil privlaÄeā veÄi broj odgovora (lajkova, komentara, dijeljenja) korisnika Facebooka od postova koji ne sadrže emocijeā ili reference na privatni profil.āā ā
Hare Kristos: comparison between religiosity of adherents to Krishna Consiousness Community and Catholics
SAŽETAK U Älanku su analizirane razlike u intenzitetu vjerske prakse slovenskih sljedbenika pokreta Hare KriÅ”na i katolika, zatim je provjeren utjecaj tih razlika na svakodnevni život sljedbenika KriÅ”ne i katolika te njihov odnos prema druÅ”tvu. U analizi su koriÅ”teni podaci prve sustavne socioloÅ”ke analize nekog novog religijskog pokreta u Sloveniji koji su usporeÄeni s podacima ispitivanja javnog miÅ”ljenja Aufbruch (1997 (SJM 97/2) i ISSP 1998 (SJM 98/1). PotvrÄena je pretpostavka o mnogo intenzivnijoj vjerskoj djelatnosti sljedbenika pokreta Hare KriÅ”na, koji su u svom svakodnevnom životu, gledano sa stajaliÅ”ta primjene vjerskih naÄela, priliÄno ortodoksni, Å”to u suprotnosti s opÄim vjerovanjem ne rezultira izrazitom zatvorenoÅ”Äu Zajednice za svjesnost KriÅ”ne i njezinom odvojenoÅ”Äu od okoline i druÅ”tva opÄenito, kao ni nekom natprosjeÄnom konzervativnoÅ”Äu njezinih pripadnika.The article analyses the differences in intensity of religious practices of Slovenian adherents to Hare Krishna and Catholics. Furthermore, it measures their influence on everyday life of believers. It uses the data of the first systematic case study research of any new religious movement in Slovenia and compares them with some results of international surveys Aufbruch 1997 and ISSP 1998. The findings prove that Krishna adherents are considerably more active in their religious activities than Catholics and quite orthodox when it comes to applying religious rules in everyday life. But contrary to popular belief, it does not lead to noticeable shutting off or isolation of the Krishna community from the society, nor to higher than average conservatism of its members
Gledanje videoigara: Å”to potiÄe gledanje igranja videoigara na YouTubeu?
This article addresses the phenomenon of gameplay video watching on YouTube. The study investigates what drives people to watch gameplay videos and what gratifications they seek in performing the activity of gameplay viewing. To this end, the authors adopted the uses and gratifications theory (UGT) and a qualitative methodology involving three online discussion groups with 100 members of international gameplay communities. While the results pinpoint the attractiveness of the player as the most important motive, other reasons, such as preview and learning aspects or substitution for the real game, also appear to be important. The qualitative approach enabled to uncover unique aspects of the motives of watching YouTube gameplay videos. In this respect, five distinctive types of gameplay viewers are identified ā Spectator, Performer, Selector, Viewer, and Substitutor ā where each of them seems to engage in such practices with specific motives and accompanying gratifications.Ovaj se znanstveni rad bavi fenomenom gledanja videa na YouTubeu koji prikazuju igranje videoigara. Studija ispituje Å”to ljude potiÄe na gledanje igranja videoigara te koje zadovoljstvo u tome traže. Autori se pozivaju na teoriju koristi i nagrada (uses and gratifications theory ā UGT) te se koriste kvalitativnom metodologijom. Autori su proveli tri online grupne rasprave sa 100 Älanova meÄunarodne gaming zajednice. Iako se u kao najvažiji motiv gledanja istiÄe atraktivnost igraÄa, važni su i drugi razlozi, poput promatranja i uÄenja, ali i zamjene za pravo igranje. Taj kvalitativni pristup omoguÄuje otkrivanje jedinstvenih aspekata motiva gledanja igranja videoigara na Youtubeu. Tako je u ovom radu identificirano pet razliÄitih vrsta gledatelja ā promatraÄ, izvoÄaÄ, onaj koji bira, gledatelj i zamjena ā pri Äemu se svaki ukljuÄuje u gledanje videoigara zbog specifiÄnih motiva i prateÄeg zadovoljstva

Representations of Islam and Muslims in Slovenian Primary School Textbooks
Älanek obravnava reprezentacije islama in muslimanov v slovenskih osnovnoÅ”olskih uÄbenikih. KritiÄno diskurzivno analizo usmerja na Å”tiri tematske poudarke, okoli kateĀrih se zgoÅ”Äajo reprezentacije: varnost in nasilje, geografsko kulturno umestitev, vlogo žensk in odnose med spoloma ter prispevek muslimanov k razvoju zahodne civilizacije. Rezultati kažejo redke primere oÄitno problematiÄnih reprezentacij, celostna analiĀza pa razkriva, da Å”ele množica manjÅ”ih pristranskosti in/ali pretiravanj ob odsotnosti nekaterih tematik in/ali vizualnih ilustracij tvori popaÄeno reprezentacijo, ki reproducira nekatere stereotipe in starodavni strah pred muslimani in islamom.The article discusses the representations of Islam and Muslims in Slovenian primary school textbooks. The critical discursive analysis focuses on four thematic emphases around which such representations are concentrated: security and violence, geoĀgraphical and cultural placement, the role of women and gender relations, and the contribution of Muslims to the development of Western civilization. A comprehensive analysis reveals that a multitude of minor biases and/or exaggerations in the absence of certain themes and/or visual illustrations together form a distorted representation that reproduces certain stereotypes as well as ancient fears of Muslims and Islam
R)evolucija perspektiva o interaktivnosti: od pristupa orijentiranog na medije do pristupa orijentiranog na novinare
The proliferation of new media since the late 1990s has launched a new period of revitalising the concept of interactivity but from very different angles and with several empirical research perspectives. The articleās main aim is to show the variety of ways in which researchers have conceptualised, examined and analysed interactivity within media and journalism studies. The paper provides insights into the various readings of the changes within the field and offers a cautious view of the conceptās potential. Based on a selective meta-analysis of different approaches, we propose to distinguish three perspectives on interactivity: communication- and media-centred perspectives, audience- or user-centred perspectives, and production- or journalist-centred perspectives. This distinction enables us to differentiate between what is considered interactive, and who this interaction involves according to several scholars within media and journalism studies.Proliferacija novih medija od kasnih 90-ih pokrenula je novi period revitaliziranja koncepta interaktivnosti, ali iz priliÄno razliÄitih kutova i iz nekoliko perspektiva u empirijskom istraživanju. Glavni je cilj ovog rada pokazati razliÄite pristupe kojima istraživaÄi konceptualiziraju, ispituju i analiziraju interaktivnost u podruÄju medijskih studija i novinarstva. Rad pruža uvid u razliÄita tumaÄenja promjena unutar polja i kritiÄki gleda na potencijal toga koncepta. Mi predlažemo razlikovanje triju perspektiva o interaktivnosti na temelju selektivne metaanalize razliÄitih pristupa: perspektive orijentirane na komunikaciju i medije, perspektive orijentirane na publiku ili korisnike i perspektive orijentirane na produkciju ili novinare. Ta distinkcija, prema nekoliko autora iz podruÄja medijskih studija i novinarstva, omoguÄuje nam da razlikujemo ono Å”to se smatra interaktivnim od onoga koga ta interakcija ukljuÄuje
Vpliv sonÄne aktivnosti na okoljski dozni ekvivalent H*(10) v Sloveniji merjen s termoluminiscenÄnimi dozimetri
Ambient dose equivalent H*(10) is measured to assess general population exposure to ionising radiation. From its spatial and time variations it is possible to identify sources of exposure. In Slovenia, semi-annual H*(10) is measured routinely with thermoluminescence dosimeters at 66 locations around the Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) KrÅ”ko and at 50 other locations covering the rest of Slovenian territory. Since the Chernobyl accident contamination had ceased to contribute to ambient dose equivalents, we have been calculating correlation coefficients between annual mean number of sunspots and annual H*(10). These correlation coefficients were calculated for five locations in western Slovenia and for five annual H*(10) extracted from measurements around NPP KrÅ”ko. Their ranges between ā0.64 and ā0.38 suggest a clear negative correlation between solar activity and H*(10). Mean annual H*(10) averted by solar activity in the past two solar maxima reached 0.070 mSv around NPP KrÅ”ko (155 m.a.s.l.) and 0.132 mSv and 0.180 mSv at Kredarica (2515 m.a.s.l.). Quantifying the influence of the solar activity on the ambient dose equivalent helps us to better understand exposure of the general population to ionising radiation.Okoljski dozni ekvivalent H*(10) merimo, da ocenimo izpostavljenost populacije ionizirajoÄemu sevanju. Iz Äasovne in prostorske odvisnosti je mogoÄe ugotoviti vire izpostavljenosti. Polletne dozne ekvivalente H*(10) merimo rutinsko s termoluminiscenÄmimi dozimetri na 66 lokacijah v okolici Jedrske elektrarne KrÅ”ko (NEK) in na 50 drugih lokacijah na teritoriju Slovenije. Ker kontaminacija zaradi Äernobilske nesreÄe ne prispeva veÄ k okoljskemu doznemu ekvivalentu smo izraÄunali korelacijske koeficiente med povpreÄnim letnim Å”tevilom sonÄnih peg in letnim H*(10). Korelacijske koeficiente smo izraÄunali za pet lokacij v Zahodni Sloveniji in pet lokacij v bližini NEK. Vrednosti korelacijskih koeficientov so v intervalu od -0.64 do -0.38, kar kaže na moÄno korelacijo med sonÄno aktivnostjo in H*(10). Zaradi sonÄeve aktivnosti so bili povpreÄni letni H*(10) v zadnjih dveh sonÄnih maksimumih zmanjÅ”ani za 0.070 mSv v okolici NEK (na nadmorski viÅ”ini 155 m) in za 0.132 mSv in 0.180 mSv na Kredarici (na nadmorski viÅ”ini 2515 m).
