    Enhancing Assertiveness Through Traditional Turkish Folk Dance

    The present study investigates the effects of assertiveness training programs through folk dances on high school students’ assertiveness levels. Pre-test post-test with control group design has been used to examine. Furthermore, a questionnaire including one open-ended question asked students to learn their opinion on training and its effects on themselves. Experiment and control group participants were administered the Rathus Assertiveness Inventory, and experiment group participants received a two–hour assertiveness training program through folk dances per week over eight weeks. The study sample included 203 students who were in first grade in the same school. Results revealed that students in the experiment group had significantly higher assertiveness levels than those in the control group (P<0.05), and experiment group students defined that this assertiveness training program positively affected them and increased their awareness about themselves

The response variable was weight percentage of product residue on 32-micrometer sieve (or fineness), while the input parameters were revolution percent, falofon percentage, and the elevator amperage (amps), which exhibits elevator charge to the separator. The process data collected from a local plant, Cimenta Cement Factory, in 2004, were used in model construction and testing. First, ANN (Artificial Neural Network) model was constructed. A feed forward network type with one input layer including 3 input parameters, two hidden layer, and one output layer including residue percentage on 32 micrometer sieve as an output parameter was constructed. After testing the model, it was detected that the model.s ability to predict the residue on 32-micrometer sieve (fineness) was successful (Correlation coefficient is 0.92). By detailed analysis of values of parameters of ANN model.s contour plots, Mamdani type fuzzy rule set in the fuzzy model on MatLAB was created. There were three parameters and three levels, and then there were third power of three (27) rules. In this study, we constructed mix of Z type, S type and gaussian type membership functions of the input parameters and response. By help of fuzzy toolbox of MatLAB, the residue percentage on 32-micrometer sieve (fineness) was predicted. Finally, It was found that the model had a correlation coefficient of 0.76. The utility of the ANN and fuzzy models created in this study was in the potential ability of the process engineers to control processing parameters to accomplish the desired cement fineness levels. In the second part of the study, a quantitative procedure for monitoring and evaluating cement milling process performance was described. Some control charts such as CUSUM (Cumulative Sum) and EWMA (Exponentially Weighted Moving Average) charts were used to monitor the cement fineness by using historical data. As a result, it is found that CUSUM and EWMA control charts can be easily used in the cement milling process monitoring in order to detect small shifts in 32-micrometer fineness, percentage by weight, in shorter sampling time interval

Boron is known to be an essential micronutrient for plants and some animals. Like any other essential element it has toxicity in high concentrations. Herein the mechanism of toxicity and the elements of the boron stress response were investigated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae with a proteomics approach. Boron is believed to have played a role in the evolution of life on earth. It has strongly electrophile organic compounds, the most important physiological form being boric acid. Boric acid has a capacity to bind cis-located hydroxl groups and some amino groups. Some of these groups are located at the active sites of some enzymes and at the carbohydrates with five-membered furanose rings. The riboses of some metabolically important molecules like S-adenosyl methionine, diadenosine phosphate family members and 3'end of RNAs are prone to be affected. The yeast cells subjected to boron in this study expressed higher amounts of carbohydrate metabolic enzymes, proteins involved in protein synthesis, protein folding and catabolism, redox homeostasis and nucleotide synthesis. All of these proteins are common to metal stress responses in yeasts.     Global Hydrogen Infrastructure Transport Model in 2050: A model-based analysis of green hydrogen trade

    The consequences of the climate crisis and the increasing energy demand make the energy transi-tion crucial and necessary. Green hydrogen has a significant potential for a low-carbon energy transition. New policies and strategies emerge in line with energy transition and hydrogen poli-cies. This study has presented a model-based outline for the global green hydrogen supply and trade infrastructure in 2050 focusing on supply cost and potential using a cost minimization linear pro-gramming (LP) model which is implemented in the General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS) with two scenarios. The results of the Hydrogen Policies Scenario are presented which examines today's hydrogen strategies and initiatives, as well as where the evolution of current technologies could take the hydrogen and energy sectors in 2050. The global hydrogen trade volume reaches 605 Mt (megaton) hydrogen trade per year, with North Africa dominating at 210 Mt.     Phosphorus, provided by phosphorus fertilisers, is one of the essential nutrients for the healthy growth of plants. Phosphate rocks are strategic resources for phosphorus in agriculture and their supply will become very limited in the near future. As a raw material, phosphorus availability shows a decreasing trend over the last decades upon excessive consumption of phosphate rocks. Moreover, excessive application of conventional phosphorus fertilisers is the primary driving force for eutrophication. Utilisation of engineered nanomaterials in agriculture provides precise delivery of nutrients, together with decreasing the negative environmental impacts of excessive usage of mineral fertilisers. Studies on enhancing the phosphorus uptake efficiency have priority in order to maintain agricultural productivity. Hydroxyapatite nanoparticles can be an innovative approach as a new group of phosphorus fertilisers, offering promising potential for enhancement of agronomic yield and reduction of eutrophication. This study provides a brief review of novel approaches for developing more strategic and efficient routes for phosphorus uptake upon hydroxyapatite utilisation in order to improve crop production. Tijekom posljednjih desetljeća dostupnost fosfornih sirovina se smanjuje zbog prekomjerne potrošnje fosfatnih stijena. Štoviše, prekomjerna primjena konvencionalnih fosfornih gnojiva glavni je uzročnik eutrofikacije. Primjena dizajniranih nanomaterijala u poljoprivredi osigurava precizno doziranje hranjivih tvari, te ujedno smanjuje negativni okolišni utjecaj prekomjerne uporabe mineralnih gnojiva. Studije o poboljšanju unosa fosfora imaju prioritet kako bi se održala poljoprivredna produktivnost. Nanočestice hidroksiapatita mogu biti inovativan pristup kao nova skupina fosfornih gnojiva, nudeći obećavajući potencijal za poboljšanje agronomskog prinosa i smanjenje eutrofikacije.     A preliminary study for early breast cancer detection with microwaves

    Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in female all over the world. Early detection and treatment gives a chance to overcome this cancer. In breast cancer detection, there are many methods such as X-ray mammography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and Ultrasound Imaging. However, existing these methods have limitations such as X-rays, disturbing pressure on the breast, and high cost of devices, etc. Because of all the reasons mentioned, microwave breast imaging has the potential to overcome from some of the limitations of conventional breast cancer screening systems. The physical basis breast cancer detection by microwaves depends on the difference between the dielectric properties of normal and malignant breast tissue. Microwave breast cancer imaging is also a noninvasive method and it has low cost. Therefore, microwave imaging technology for breast cancer detection has attracted much attention by many researchers in these days. By using Computer Simulation Technology Microwave Studio and Antenna Magus Software, breast model with tumor and antennas were generated in this study. The presence of the tumor was investigated using a receiver and a transmitting antenna. While the transmitting antenna was stationary, the receiving antenna was moved to different positions. S11 (return loss) results were evaluated. This study is a preliminary study to determine the location and characteristic features of the tumor. Furthermore, this study will show that scanning methods will determine the location and size of the tumor at higher accuracy and the reconstruction of the reflected waves will allow to clearly determining the location of the tumor

    Comparison of person-fit statistics for polytomous items in different test conditions

    The validity of individual test scores is an important issue that needs to be studied in psychological and educational assessment. An important factor affecting the validity of individual test scores is aberrant item response behavior. Aberrant item scores may increase/decrease the individuals’ scores and as a result individuals’ ability can be estimated above/below their true ability. Person-fit statistics (PFS) are useful tools to detect aberrant behavior. There are a great number of parametric and nonparametric PFS in the literature. The general purpose of the study is to examine the effectiveness of the parametric and nonparametric PFS in data sets which consist of polytomous items. This study is fundamental research aimed at determining the effectiveness of PFS using simulated data sets. According to the results, as expected, as the Type I error rates (significance alpha level) increased, detection rates (power) increased. In general, it is seen that as the number of misfitting item score vector and number of items increased, detection rates increased. Generally, nonparametric PFS (N-PFS) (especially GP) detected more aberrant individuals than parametric PFS (P-PFS) lzp. However, in some tests’ conditions lzp detected more aberrant individuals than N-PFS for longer tests. The results indicate that N-PFS outperformed P-PFS in most of the test conditions

    Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neuro-developmental disorder, which manifests itself with severe social interaction and communication disorder, social behavior, language, perceptual functions, repetitive behaviors and interests in the first years of life, which continues throughout life and displays differences in the appearance and level of symptoms due to various reasons from individual to individual. It is known in the literature that the participation of an individual, diagnosed with ASD with these characteristics, in the family, has significant effects on the family and the functioning of the family. In families that have a member diagnosed with ASD, it is known that the needs of the family increase, stress sources are varied, and family functioning is affected by this situation. There are also research results indicating that this situation causes depression and traumatic stress. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the burnout levels of parents of children diagnosed with ASD, and ASD symptom level, and family needs. For this purpose, data were collected from 273 parents using the Gilliam Autism Rating Scale-2-TV (GARS-2-TV), Family Needs Survey (FNS), and Parental Burnout Inventory (PBI). Based on the collected data, the relationship between the GARS-2-TV and FNS subscale scores and the PBI total score was examined and reported by hierarchical regression analysis. As a result of the analyses, it was observed that the two subscales of the GARS-2-TV and the four subscales of the FNS were related to the PBI total score and explained 40% of the observed variance in the PBI total score.Otizm spektrum bozukluğu (OSB) yaşamın ilk yıllarında ciddi sosyal etkileşim ve iletişim bozukluğu, sosyal davranış, dil, algısal fonksiyonlar, tekrarlayan davranışlar ve ilgiler ile kendini gösteren, yaşam boyu devam eden ve çeşitli nedenler ile belirtilerin görünümünde ve düzeyinde bireyden bireye farklılıklar gösteren nöro-gelişimsel bir bozukluktur. Bu özellikleri ile OSB tanısı olan bir bireyin aileye katılımının, aile ve ailenin işleyişi üzerine belirgin etkileri olduğu alan yazında sıkça vurgulanmaktadır. OSB tanısı olan bireyin katılımıyla ailenin gereksinimlerinin arttığı, stres kaynaklarının çeşitlendiği, aile işleyişinin bu durumdan etkilendiği bilinmektedir. Bu durumun depresyona ve travmatik strese neden olduğuna dair araştırma bulguları da vardır. Bu çalışmanın amacı OSB tanısı olan çocukların ebeveynlerinin tükenmişlik düzeyleri ile OSB semptom düzeyi ve aile gereksinimleri arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesidir. Bu amaçla 273 ebeveynden Gilliam Otistik Bozukluk Derecelendirme Ölçeği-2-TV (GOBDÖ-2-TV), Aile Gereksinimlerini Belirleme Aracı (AGBA) ve Anne-Baba Tükenmişlik Ölçeği (ATÖ) kullanılarak veri toplanmıştır. Toplanan veriler temelinde GOBDÖ-2-TV ve AGBA alt ölçek puanları ile ATÖ toplam puanı arasındaki ilişki hiyerarşik regresyon analizi ile incelenmiş ve rapor edilmiştir. Yapılan analizler sonucunda GOBDÖ-2-TV’nin iki alt ölçeğinin ve AGBA’nın dört alt ölçeğinin ATÖ toplam puanı ile ilişkili olduğu ve ATÖ toplam puanında gözlemlenen varyansın %40’ını açıkladığı görülmüştür

    Hayal Gücünün Sınıf Öğretmenliği Mesleğinde Kullanılmasına İlişkin Bir Öz-İnceleme

    As a primary school teacher (the first author) in this study, I intended to understand, evaluate, and improve my teaching practices regarding “imagination”. I used the “self-study” methodology to make sense of my experiences and explore new ideas, actions, or understandings for my teaching. I conducted my research with 27 third-grade students attending a public primary school in Ağrı in the fall semester of the 2021-2022 school year. I used multiple data collection techniques (i.e., participant observations, reflective diaries, feedback from my students, critical friend and colleagues, and photographs of my teaching activities) to detail the study data and increase its trustworthiness. I organized my findings under three main themes: (1) My professional understanding and future goals. Under this theme, I explained my professional insight and future aspirations. I introduced myself as a teacher constantly questioning her practices, caring about enriching her teaching with different activities, and focusing on opportunities rather than obstacles in her work environment. I also emphasized my aim to design educational materials that will make student learning more meaningful and enjoyable in the future. (2) Activities that reflect my imagination. Under this theme, I provided detailed information about the activities I designed aligned with my imagination and implemented in my classroom to contribute more to students’ learning. (3) Comments of my students, critical friend, and colleagues. Under this theme, I shared my students’, critical friend’s, and colleagues’ comments about the activities I implemented in the classroom. I emphasized that the feedback provided was generally positive and guided my teaching. This study contributes to the literature by exemplifying how I designed the teaching activities using my imagination as a primary school teacher and improved the teaching-learning process by taking it out of the ordinary.Bu çalışmada, bir sınıf öğretmeni (makalenin ilk yazarı) olarak uygulamalarımı “hayal gücü” bağlamında anlamayı, değerlendirmeyi ve geliştirmeyi hedefledim. Araştırmada, deneyimlerimi anlamlandırmak ve mesleğimle ilgili yeni fikirleri, eylemleri ya da anlayışları keşfetmek için “bireysel araştırma” desenini kullandım. Araştırmayı 2021-2022 öğretim yılı güz döneminde Ağrı ilindeki bir devlet ilkokulunda öğrenim gören 27 üçüncü sınıf öğrencimle yürüttüm. Verileri detaylandırmak ve inandırıcılığı artırmak amacıyla birden fazla veri toplama tekniğine başvurdum (katılımcı gözlemlerim, yansıtıcı günlüklerim, öğrencilerim, eleştirel arkadaşım ve meslektaşlarımdan elde ettiğim geribildirimler ve etkinliklere ilişkin çektiğim fotoğraflar). Araştırmada ulaştığım bulguları üç tema altında düzenledim: (1) Öğretmenlik anlayışım ve ileriye dönük hedeflerim. Bu tema altında, sahip olduğum mesleki anlayışımı ve ileriye dönük planlarımı açıkladım. Kendimi, uygulamalarını sürekli olarak sorgulayan, öğretimini farklı etkinliklerle zenginleştirmeye özen gösteren ve çalışma ortamındaki engeller yerine fırsatlara odaklanan bir öğretmen olarak tanıttım. Ayrıca, ileriye dönük olarak öğrenmeyi zevkli ve anlamlı hale getirecek eğitim materyallerini tasarlamak gibi bir gayemin olduğunu ifade ettim. (2) Hayal gücümü yansıtan etkinlikler. Bu tema altında, öğrencilerin öğrenmelerine daha fazla katkı sağlayabilmek adına hayal gücüm doğrultusunda hazırladığım ve sınıfımda uyguladığım etkinlikler hakkında ayrıntılı bilgi verdim. (3) Öğrencilerimin, eleştirel arkadaşımın ve meslektaşlarımın yorumları. Bu tema altında, sınıfta uyguladığım etkinliklere ilişkin öğrencilerimin, eleştirel arkadaşımın ve meslektaşlarımın yorumlarını paylaştım. Bu kapsamda sunulan geribildirimlerin genellikle olumlu ve mesleğim açısından yol gösterici nitelikte olduğunu vurguladım. Bu çalışmanın, bir sınıf öğretmeni olarak hayal gücüme dayalı öğretim etkinliklerini nasıl tasarladığımı ve öğrenme-öğretme sürecini de sıradanlığın dışına çıkarak nasıl gerçekleştirdiğimi örneklendirmesi bakımından alanyazına önemli bir katkı sunduğunu düşünüyorum
