Rank dependent expected utility models of tax evasion.
In this paper the rank-dependent expected utility theory is substituted for the expected utility theory in models of tax evasion. It is demonstrated that the comparative statics results of the expected utility, portfolio choice model of tax evasion carry over to the more general rank dependent expected utility model.Tax evasion; rank dependent expected utility; dual theory
Predication at the interface
We try to show that predication plays a greater role in syntax than commonly assumed. Specifically, we wil argue that predication to a large extent determines both the phrase structure of clauses and trigger syntactic processes that take place in clauses. If we are on the right path, this implies that syntax is basically semantically driven, given that predication is semantically construed
Acquisition and use of Orlando, Florida and Continental Airbus radar flight test data
Westinghouse is developing a lookdown pulse Doppler radar for production as the sensor and processor of a forward looking hazardous windshear detection and avoidance system. A data collection prototype of that product was ready for flight testing in Orlando to encounter low level windshear in corroboration with the FAA-Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR). Airborne real-time processing and display of the hazard factor were demonstrated with TDWR facilitated intercepts and penetrations of over 80 microbursts in a three day period, including microbursts with hazard factors in excess of .16 (with 500 ft. PIREP altitude loss) and the hazard factor display at 6 n.mi. of a visually transparent ('dry') microburst with TDWR corroborated outflow reflectivities of +5 dBz. Range gated Doppler spectrum data was recorded for subsequent development and refinement of hazard factor detection and urban clutter rejection algorithms. Following Orlando, the data collection radar was supplemental type certified for in revenue service on a Continental Airlines Airbus in an automatic and non-interferring basis with its ARINC 708 radar to allow Westinghouse to confirm its understanding of commercial aircraft installation, interface realities, and urban airport clutter. A number of software upgrades, all of which were verified at the Receiver-Transmitter-Processor (RTP) hardware bench with Orlando microburst data to produce desired advanced warning hazard factor detection, included some preliminary loads with automatic (sliding window average hazard factor) detection and annunciation recording. The current (14-APR-92) configured software is free from false and/or nuisance alerts (CAUTIONS, WARNINGS, etc.) for all take-off and landing approaches, under 2500 ft. altitude to weight-on-wheels, into all encountered airports, including Newark (NJ), LAX, Denver, Houston, Cleveland, etc. Using the Orlando data collected on hazardous microbursts, Westinghouse has developed a lookdown pulse Doppler radar product with signal and data processing algorithms which detect realistic microburst hazards and has demonstrated those algorithms produce no false alerts (or nuisance alerts) in urban airport ground moving vehicle (GMTI) and/or clutter environments

Investigation of abort procedures for space shuttle-type vehicles
An investigation has been made of abort procedures for space shuttle-type vehicles using a point mass trajectory optimization program known as POST. This study determined the minimum time gap between immediate and once-around safe return to the launch site from a baseline due-East launch trajectory for an alternate space shuttle concept which experiences an instantaneous loss of 25 percent of the total main engine thrust

X-ray background and its correlation with the 21 cm signal
We use high resolution hydrodynamical simulations to study the contribution
to the X-ray background from high- energetic sources, such as X-ray
binaries, accreting nuclear black holes and shock heated interstellar medium.
Adopting the model discussed in Eide et al. (2018), we find that these X-ray
sources during the Epoch of Reionization (EoR) contribute less than a few
percent of the unresolved X-ray background. The same sources contribute to less
than 2\% of the measured angular power spectrum of the fluctuations of
the X-ray background. The outputs of radiative transfer simulations modeling
the EoR are used to evaluate the cross-correlations of X-ray background with
the 21~cm signal from neutral hydrogen. Such correlation could be used to
confirm the origin of the 21 cm signal, as well as give information on the
properties of the X-ray sources during the EoR. We find that the correlations
are positive during the early stages of reionization when most of the hydrogen
is neutral, while they become negative when the intergalactic medium gets
highly ionized, with the transition from positive to negative depending on both
the X-ray model and the scale under consideration. With {\tt SKA} as the
reference instrument for the 21~cm experiment, the predicted S/N for such
correlations is if the corresponding X-ray survey is only able to resolve
and remove X-ray sources with observed flux , while the cumulative S/N from to at
is if sources with observed flux are detected.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figure

Rank Dependent Utility, Tax Evasion and Labor Supply
In the simple Allingham-Sandmo portfolio model of tax evasion an expected utility maximizer will cheat more than what is estimated in empirical studies. Two main types of explanation have been suggested as solutions to this puzzle: (1) Tax payers act according to some non-expected utility theory, and (2) Individual ethical norms and social stigma induce people not to cheat. In the present study we test two hypotheses within these broad explanations: (1) Tax payers are weighting subjective probabilities of being penalised according to the rank dependent utility theory, and (2) Tax payers’ beliefs about social norms have an effect on their decision to evade taxes. Our model is characterized by a simultaneous determination of tax evasion and labour supply, including the effect on tax payers of a social norm of not cheating. Using Norwegian survey data our hypotheses are corroborated. Our estimates imply that if the objective probability of being penalized is, say 3 %, the weighted probability is about 23 %. Our study provides an independent confirmation of the rank dependent expected utility theory. The model explains data 53% better than pure random choices and predicts hours worked in the regular economy, among tax evaders as well non tax evaders, rather precisely. The model is an example of a two sector choice model and the results indicate that an overall wage increase may shift labor supply away from the irregular part of the economy towards the regular.labor supply, tax evasion, rank dependent utility
