Examining the contact problem of a functionally graded layer supported by an elastic half-plane with the analytical and numerical methods
This study offers a comparative study of the analytical and numerical methods for investigating a contact problem. The contact problem comprises a functionally graded layer supported by a half-plane and loaded with a distributed load from the top surface. First, the analytical and numerical solutions to the problem are acquired by utilizing a theory of elasticity and finite element method, respectively. The problem is transformed into a system of integral equations in which the contact stress is an unknown function. The solution of the integral equation was achieved with Gauss–Jacobi integration formulation. The finite element model of the problem is created using ANSYS software, and the two-dimensional analysis of the problem is performed. Results were obtained from the samples for different material properties and loading conditions. The distributed load width and non-homogeneity parameters significantly impact on contact mechanics. The results indicate that the contact area and the contact stress obtained from finite element method (FEM) are close to the analytical results. As a result, acceptable error rates were obtained. Finally, this study provides evidence of a good agreement between the two methods
Does Post-COVID-19 Erectile Dysfunction Improve over Time?
BACKGROUND
Some studies have shown that there may be an increase in the frequency of erectile dysfunction after COVID-19. However, no long-term study has investigated whether this is permanent or temporary. In this study, we aimed to examine whether there was an increase in the frequency of erectile dysfunction among individuals with a history of COVID-19, and, if there was, whether their condition improved over time.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
In this study, a total of 125 healthy male healthcare workers, 95 with and 30 without a history of COVID-19, were evaluated in terms of erectile function. Four study groups were formed. The first three groups consisted of individuals with a history of COVID-19 confirmed by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test at different times, who recovered from the disease (time elapsed since COVID-19 positivity: 12 months for Group 3). The individuals in Group 4 did not have a history of COVID-19 diagnosis. In order to evaluate the erectile function of the participants, they were asked to complete the five-item International Index of Erectile Function questionnaire (IIEF-5). Then, statistical analyses were performed to evaluate whether there was a difference between the groups in terms of the IIEF-5 scores.
RESULTS
There was a statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of the IIEF-5 scores (p 0.999, p = 0.204, and p = 0.592, respectively).
CONCLUSION
There may be deterioration in erectile function after COVID-19; however, this tends to improve over time, especially from the first year after active infection. Given that vascular, hormonal, and/or psychogenic factors may lead to the development of erectile dysfunction after COVID-19, we consider that in order to easily manage this process, it is important to determine the underlying cause, initiate appropriate treatment, and inform couples that this situation can be temporary
The impact of synapsin III gene on the neurometabolite level alterations after single-dose methylphenidate in attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder patients
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the neurometabolite level changes according to synapsin III gene rs133945G>A and rs133946C>G polymorphisms by using magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) in patients with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). METHODS: Fifty-seven adults diagnosed with ADHD were recruited for the study. The participants were examined by single-voxel (1)H MRS when medication naïve and 30 minutes after oral administration of 10 mg methylphenidate (Mph). Those who had been on a stimulant discontinued the medication 48 hours before MRS imaging. Spectra were taken from the anterior cingulate cortex, dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, striatum, and cerebellum, and N-acetylaspartate (NAA), choline, and creatine levels were examined. For genotyping of the synapsin III gene polymorphisms, DNA was isolated from peripheral blood leukocytes. The effects of age, sex, and ADHD subtypes were controlled in the analyses. RESULTS: After a single dose of Mph, choline levels increased significantly in the striatum of rs133945G>A polymorphism-GG genotypes (P=0.020) and NAA levels rose in the anterior cingulate cortex of rs133946C>G polymorphism-CG genotypes (P=0.014). Both rs133945G>A and rs133946C>G polymorphisms were found to statistically significantly affect the alteration of NAA levels in response to Mph in dorsolateral prefrontal cortex with two-way repeated measure of analysis of variance. Post hoc comparisons revealed a significant difference between CG and GG genotypes of rs133946C>G polymorphisms after Bonferroni adjustment (P=0.016). CONCLUSION: Synapsin III gene polymorphisms may be affecting the changes in neurometabolite levels in response to Mph in adult ADHD patients. Future studies are needed to confirm our findings
IDEA and Family Involvement
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) gives many rights to parents with special needs
in terms of involvement and participation. Given the importance of family involvement in the special
education process, and federal legislation that increasingly mandated and supported such
involvement over time, considerable research has focused on the multiple ways that relationships
between schools and families in the special education decision making process have played out.
Educational professionals should create a positive climate for CLD families so that they feel more
comfortable and therefore are able to participate more authentically and meaningfully

The subject of the research is to examine the effect of using smart board on student achievement in teaching high school 11 th grade human geography subjects. In today's conditions, with the increase in the importance of technology in our lives, its use in education has also increased. With this research, the effect of the use of smart board, which is one of the most important technological tools used in the field of education, on student achievement in geography lessons was studied. In addition, it is aimed to observe the effect of the use of smart board in geography education on students' success in human geography. In the study, pre-test post-test experimental research model with control group was used to examine the effect of using smart board on student achievement in geography lessons. The research was conducted with 11th grade students in one of the secondary education institutions in Osmaniye province. The research was conducted with 4 11th grade classes and 110 students in total. 67 of the participants were girls and 43 were boys. In order to collect the necessary data for the statistical analysis of the sub-problems of the research; data were collected by applying the achievement test developed to determine the effect of the use of smart board on student achievement in the subjects of "Functions and Spheres of Influence of Cities and Population Policies and Settlement". The data obtained from the measurement tools used were transferred to the computer environment and evaluated using the SPSS statistical package programme. Since the data were normally distributed, unrelated groups t-test was applied to compare the pre-test scores of the experimental and control groups. As a result of the research, it was determined that the use of smart board in geography lessons increased student achievement. The smart board we use in geography teaching has many contributions to geography education. It has many advantages in terms of appealing to the visual and auditory senses of the student, saving the lesson from mediocrity, providing visual content in situations where it is not possible to do field work, and showing the materials that cannot be brought to the classroom to the students in three dimensions. For this purpose, we can say that the use of smart board in geography lessons will contribute greatly to student success. For this reason, it should be preferred to use smart board instead of classical methods in geography lessons and to benefit from smart board applications and other opportunities it provides
