The Effect of Different Molar Ratios of CeO2 on Photoluminescence Properties of CeO2/TiO2 Nanoparticles
The CeO2-TiO2 nanoparticles were prepared by a combination of hydrothermal and sol-gel preparation methods. the bond structures and crystal properties of the obtained materials were featured with X-ray diffraction, FTIR, Raman, and Bet analysis; surface morphologies were examined with the help of FESEM and STEM. And finally, the PL properties of the synthesized samples were also examined in this study. The excitation and emission spectra of 0.1 mol% and 0.25 mol% CeO2 doped TiO2 phosphors consist of broad bands in the UV (200–300 nm) region with maxima at 254 nm. The excitation band at 254 nm is defined as the charge transfer band (CTB). In the emission spectra, a broadband located from 400 to 700 nm is related to the 5d-4f (5d1→4f1) transition of Ce3+ in TiO2. According to the PL result, the 5d–4f transition of Ce3+ is heavily dependent on the concentration of Ce3+ in the host crystal TiO2
Investigation of Optical Properties of Nanostructured Ce0.80-x-yNdxTbyO2 Compound
In this study, the sol-gel method synthesized nano-structured Ce0.80-x-yNdxTbyO2 compounds that can be used in optoelectronic devices. In the characterization studies of the synthesized compounds, XRD, FE-SEM-EDX, TG-DTA, Raman, and photoluminescence spectrophotometer were used. The thermal analysis determined that the degrading species were removed at 600 oC and cubic crystalline compounds were obtained according to the XRD data. EDX data confirmed the presence of host and activator elements in the compound. It was determined that oxygen vacancy formation was more intense in the 5% Nd-15%Tb doped compound. According to these results, 5% Nd phosphorus-doped Ce0.80-x-yNdxTbyO2 was reported to be a good candidate for optoelectronic applications where both red and green photoluminescence are required in the same crystal
UAV-based Maritime Communications: Relaying to Enhance the Link Quality
Providing a stable connectivity in maritime communications is of utmost
importance to unleash the full potential of smart ports. Nonetheless, due to
the crowded nature of harbor environments, it is likely that some ships are
shadowed by others, resulting in reduced received power that subsequently
diminishes their data rates-even threatens basic connectivity requirements.
Given that UAVs have been regarded as an integral part of future generations of
wireless communication networks, they can be employed in maritime
communications as well. In this paper, we investigate the use of UAV-mounted
relays in order to help mitigate the reduced data rates of blocked links in
maritime communications. Various communication architectures are considered
based on the positioning mechanism of the UAV; in this regard, fixed, k-means
algorithm-based, and landing spot-based positioning approaches are examined. On
the other hand, since UAVs are predominantly battery-operated, the energy
consumption performances of these approaches are also measured. Results reveal
that the landing spot-based UAV relay positioning approach finds the best
trade-off between the data rate and energy consumption
CONJUGATED HYPERBILIRUBINEMIA AND INTRAABDOMINAL LYMPHADENOPATHY: CO-EXISTANCE
Rotor Sendromu kronik konjuge bilirubin yüksekliği ile seyreden otozomal resesif geçişli bir bozukluktur. Kendine özgü bir semptom veya fizik muayene bulgusu olmayan bu sendromda karaciğer fonksiyon testleri de normal bulunur. Eşlik eden başka hastalıkların varlığında, ayırıcı tanıda zorluklar yaşanmaktadır. Burada; konjuge bilirubin yüksekliği intraabdominal lenfadenopatilerin safra yollarına basısı ön tanısıyla kliniğimize yollanan, tanı zorluğu yaşanan ve sonuçta Rotor sendromu ile birlikte Toksoplazmozis tanısı almış olan bir vaka sunulmuştur. Rotor syndrome is an autosomal recessive disorder presenting with chronic elevation of the conjugated serum bilirubin fraction. There are no spesific symptoms and physical examination findings of this syndrome and liver function tests are normal. Differential diagnosis is difficult in the existence of concomitant diseases. Here; we report a child with conjugated hyperbilirubinemia though to result from biliary tract compression by intraabdominal lymphadenopathies. Comparison of various phenotypic methods in detection of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases
Genişlemiş spektrumlu beta-laktamaz (GSBL) enzimi bazı Gram negatif bakterilerde sefalosporinlere, geniş spektrumlu penisilinlere ve monobaktamlara karşı direnç sorununa neden olmaktadır. Tedavi başarısını arttırmak için bu enzimlerin varlığı çeşitli yöntemlerle araştırılmaktadır. Çalışmamızda Düzce Üniversitesi Araştırma ve Uygulama Hastanesi Klinik Mikrobiyoloji Laboratuvarında üretilen Escherichia coli ve Klebsiella suşlarında GSBL saptanmasında kullanılan fenotipik testlerin [disk difüzyon tarama testi (DDTT), çift disk sinerji testi (ÇDST), E-test] etkinliği karşılaştırılmıştır. Klebsiella spp. ve K.pneumoniae suşlarında, tarama testi ve E-test benzer sonuçlar vermiş iken ÇDST diğer testlerin saptayabildiği GSBL’lerin hepsini saptayamamıştır. Bu testin etkinliği, E-test ile karşılaştırıldığında Klebsiella spp. için p=0.002 ve K.pneumoniae için p=0.041 düzeyinde ve tarama testi ile karşılaştırıldığında Klebsiella spp. için p=0.001 ve K.pneumoniae için p=0.041 düzeyinde, anlamlı olarak düşük bulunmuştur. E.coli suşlarında ise farklı olarak; ÇDST ile E-test sonuçları benzer iken (p=0.187), tarama testi ÇDST’ne göre anlamlı derecede daha etkin bulunmuştur (p<0.05). Sonuç olarak, Gram negatif bakteri kaynaklı infeksiyonların tedavisinde antibiyotiklerin hastaya uygulanıp uygulanmaması konusunda karar verirken ÇDST’nin tek başına kullanılmaması gerektiği, DDTT yapılmasının çok önemli olduğu ve E-test ile doğrulanması gerektiği düşünülmüştür.Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) enzymes of some gram-negative bacteria cause resistance to cephalosporins, broad-spectrum penicillins and monobactams. The presence of these enzymes must be investigated by various methods for the success of the treatment. In this study, the effectiveness of various phenotypic methods for detection of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases [disk diffusion screening test (DDTT), double-disk synergy test (DDST), and E-test] in Escherichia coli and Klebsiella strains isolated in Clinical Microbiology Laboratory of Duzce University, Medical Faculty were compared. Similar results were obtained with screening test and E-test, whereas DDST was found insufficient in detecting ESBL&#8217;s that were determined by other methods. The effectivity of this test was found significantly low, when compared with E-test, with results for Klebsiella spp. (p=0.002) and K.pneumoniae (p=0.041) and screening test, with results for the Klebsiella spp. (p=0.001) and K.pneumoniae (p=0.041). For E.coli strains, results obtained with DDST and E-test (p=0.187) were found similar but, screening test was significantly effective than DDST (p<0.05). As a result, for the decision of the choice of antibiotics in the treatment of Gram-negative bacterial infections, DDST should not be used alone. Ege Bölgesinde Organik Zeytin Yetiştiriciliği
Bu çalışmada, insan beslenmesi ve sağlığı açısından çok önemli bir ürün olan zeytinin yetiştirilmesinde, konvansiyonel yöntemlere alternatif olarak organik tarım yöntemlerinin uygulanabilirliğinin belirlenmesi, fenolojik, pomolojik ve ekonomik farklılıkların ortaya konması amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma Güney Ege Bölgesinin en önemli yağlık çeşidi olan Memecik zeytin çeşidinde Zeytincilik Araştırma Enstitüsünün Kemalpaşa üretim alanında 2004-2007 yılları arasında yürütülmüştür. Çalışmada organik parsellerde toprak verimliliğini artırmak amacıyla yeşil gübreleme, organik gübre, organik tarım yönetmeliğinde izin verilen mineral maddeler, konvansiyonel parsellerde ise kimyasal gübreler uygulanmıştır. Zeytin sineği popülasyon takibi Mc phail ve sarı yapışkan tuzaklar, zeytin güvesi ise delta tipi feremon tuzaklar ile yapılmıştır. Organik parsellerde zeytin sineği mücadelesinde Ecotrap, neemazal ve kaolin uygulamaları yapılmıştır. Konvansiyonel parsellerde mücadele Fenthion ile yapılmıştır. Her iki parseldeki ağaçlarda sürgün boyu, somak ve çiçek adeti, meyvelerde ise tane adedi ve ağırlığı, eni, boyu, et/çekirdek oranları, ürün miktarları tespit edilmiştir. Elde edilen zeytinyağlarında ise yağ asitleri bileşimleri ve zeytinyağı kalite parametreleri değerlendirilmiştir. Ayrıca yaprak ve toprak analizleri ile bitki besin maddelerinin değişimleri incelenmiş, parsellerden elde edilen meyvelerde kalıntı analizleri yapılmıştır. Meyve örneklerinde yapılan analizlerde organik fosforlu nitrojenli ve sülfürlü pestisitlere rastlanmamıştır. Her iki grupta da ürün miktarı, yağ kalite parametreleri ve yağ asitleri bileşiminde önemli bir farklılık bulunmamıştır. Yapılan organik tarım uygulamalarıyla, konvansiyonel yöntemler uygulanarak sağlanan verim ve kalitede ürün elde edilmiştir
The epidemiology, Clinical Manifestations, radiology, microbiology, treatment, and prognosis of echinococcosis: Results of NENEHATUN study
Aim: Echinococcosis, caused by Echinococcus species, is an important zoonotic disease causing major health problems in humans and animals. Herein, we aimed to evaluate the epidemiology, clinical and laboratory parameters, radiological, serological, pathological, and treatment protocols of followed-up cases of hydatidosis.
Methods: A total of 550 patients diagnosed with hydatid cyst disease were included in this study. Patients who were positive for one or more of the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay or indirect hemagglutination test, pathological results, or radiological findings were examined. The data analyzed were collected from nine centers between 2008 and 2020. Records were examined retrospectively.
Results: Among the patients, 292 (53.1%) were women and 258 (46.9%) were men. The patients' mean age was 44.4 +/- 17.4 years. A history of living in rural areas was recorded in 57.4% of the patients. A total of 435 (79.1%) patients were symptomatic. The most common symptoms were abdominal pain in 277 (50.4%), listlessness in 244 (44.4%), and cough in 140 (25.5%) patients. Hepatomegaly was found in 147 (26.7%), and decreased breath sounds were observed in 124 (22.5%) patients. Radiological examination was performed in all cases and serological methods were also applied to 428 (77.8%) patients. The most frequently applied serological test was IHA (37.8%). A single cyst has been found in 66% patients. Hepatic involvement occurred in 327 (59.4%), pulmonary involvement was found in 128 (23.3%), whereas both of them were recorded in 43 (7.8%) patients. Splenic involvement was only detected in nine (1.6%) patients. Echinococcus granulosus (72.5%) was most frequently detected. Cyst diameters of 56.9% of the patients were in the range of 5-10 cm. A total of 414 (75.2%) patients received albendazole as an antiparasitic. Mortality was noted in nine (1.6%) patients.
Conclusion: Echinococcosis is an important public health problem in Turkey. It can affect the social, economic, and political structures of the community. Public education and awareness are extremely important
The frequency of Duchenne muscular dystrophy/Becker muscular dystrophy and Pompe disease in children with isolated transaminase elevation: results from the observational VICTORIA study
IntroductionElevated transaminases and/or creatine phosphokinase can indicate underlying muscle disease. Therefore, this study aims to determine the frequency of Duchenne muscular dystrophy/Becker muscular dystrophy (DMD/BMD) in male children and Pompe disease (PD) in male and female children with isolated hypertransaminasemia.MethodsThis multi-center, prospective study enrolled patients aged 3–216 months with serum alanine transaminase (ALT) and/or aspartate transaminase (AST) levels >2× the upper limit of normal (ULN) for ≥3 months. Patients with a known history of liver or muscle disease or physical examination findings suggestive of liver disease were excluded. Patients were screened for creatinine phosphokinase (CPK) levels, and molecular genetic tests for DMD/BMD in male patients and enzyme analysis for PD in male and female patients with elevated CPK levels were performed. Genetic analyses confirmed PD. Demographic, clinical, and laboratory characteristics of the patients were analyzed.ResultsOverall, 589 patients [66.8% male, mean age of 63.4 months (standard deviation: 60.5)] were included. In total, 251 patients (188 male and 63 female) had CPK levels above the ULN. Of the patients assessed, 47% (85/182) of male patients were diagnosed with DMD/BMD and 1% (3/228) of male and female patients were diagnosed with PD. The median ALT, AST, and CPK levels were statistically significantly higher, and the questioned neurological symptoms and previously unnoticed examination findings were more common in DMD/BMD patients than those without DMD/BMD or PD (p < 0.001).DiscussionQuestioning neurological symptoms, conducting a complete physical examination, and testing for CPK levels in patients with isolated hypertransaminasemia will prevent costly and time-consuming investigations for liver diseases and will lead to the diagnosis of occult neuromuscular diseases.
