Although seroprevalence of the Shigella infections varies between countries, Shigella sonnei is the first and Shigella flexneri the second most common isolated species in our country. A higher antibiotic resistance rate is reported in S. flexneri infections compared to other Shigella species. Herein, we report a case who presented with acute gastroenteritis due to ceftriaxone-resistant S. flexneri. This infection was complicated with severe dehydration, protein-losing enteropathy and was successfully treated with ciprofloxacin an

It is especially endemic in developing countries. It may involve many organs but the most involved organs are the liver and the lungs. Renal involvement is rare, comprising only 2 % to 4 % of cases. Renal cyst may be isolated or with cysts in other organs. In this report, we present two cases, the first with isolated renal hydatid cyst and the second with multiple renal cysts and a hepatic cyst. We aimed to draw attention to hydatid cyst disease in the differential diagnosis of renal cysts in children. (J Pediatr Inf 2014; 8: 44-6

It is well-known that the initiation time of antifungal treatment in these patients affects mortality rates. The optimal antifungal choice and duration of treatment for cardiac Candida infection is not yet well defined. In this report, a rare case of dilated cardiomyopathy and endocarditis due to Candida albicans in a 4-year-old child diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia is shared and its treatment is discussed

DOI:10.5152/ced.2013.41 Acute infantile hemorrhagic edema (AIHE) is a benign form of cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis that usually occurs in children younger than 2 years of age. Although the etiology is unknown, AIHE often follows infections, drug treatment, or vaccination. The onset of AIHE is often dramatic with petechiae, ecchymoses, and annular, nummular or targetoid purpuric lesions usually appearing on the extremities, face, or ears. In this report we aimed to present a case with AIHE in whomvaccination was considered the etiologic cause.
