    Telah dilakukan penelitian dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran mikroskopis ginjal tikus putih (Rattus sp.) jantan dewasa setelah pemberian etanol kronis selama 48 hari. Delapan belas ekor tikus jantan dewasa dibagi ke dalam tiga kelompok secara acak. Pemberian alkohol diberikan secara oral (gavage) dengan dosis alkohol 10% dan 20% sebanyak 1ml/hari. Pada kelompok kontrol hanya diberikan aquades sebanyak 1ml/hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa alkohol 10% menyebabkan kerusakan pada ginjal seperti vakuolisasi lumen tubulus, pendarahan, dan infiltrasi sel radang yang bersifat fokal. Alkohol 20% menyebabkan kerusakan pada ginjal seperti infiltrasi sel radang bersifat multifokal (menyebar), pendarahan, vakuolisasi lumen tubulus, akumulasi sel debris dalam lumen tubulus, dan karyomegali. Variabel perubahan histopatologi ginjal yang diamati kemudian ditentukan tingkat kerusakannya dengan metode skor. Hasil yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji ANOVA (analysis of variance) selanjutnya diuji dengan uji LSD. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa semakin meningkat konsentrasi alkohol yang diberikan secara oral (gavage) pada tikus putih jantan dewasa dapat meningkatkan kerusakan pada ginjal.</p

    Some studies have indicated that different types of plants can impair male fertility. The research aims to determine the effect of amargo wood intravenous feeding on the quality of mice sperm and its reversibility. The research design used was Random Full Factorial Design. Thirty male mice were divided into two groups of observations, i.e. group I (35 days after infusion) and group II (14 days after administration of infusion discontinued). Furthermore, each group was further subdivided into five sub-dose treatment groups, namely 0 (control), 0 (placebo), 1000, 2000, and 4000 mg/kg. Infusion was administered orally, once daily, for 35 days with a volume of 1 ml. The quality of sperm observed includes motility, viability, and morphology. The data obtained were tested by Anova. The result showed that amargo wood intravenous treatment has significant effect (P<0,05) on sperm quality and there are significant differences between group I and group II. For the observation of group I, the greater the infusion dose given will cause a decrease in sperm quality and for group II infusion decreases the effect and shows an improvement of sperm quality, but not yet recovered to its first condition. It was concluded that amargo wood infusion can reduce the sperm quality of mice and reversible in nature

    Experiment to determine the spermatozoa viability of Petaurus berviceps papuanus T. has been performed. Observation was done under microscope and trypan blue was used as stain. Viable spermatozoa were counted from a total of 100 spermatozoa. It was found that 4,75 % of the spermazoa could be maintained for 7.5 hours in the DMEM (Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium) at 35oC

    The research to determine the effect of fruit extracts juwet on the number and morphology of spermatozoa were superbly exposed to smoke has been conducted. This study uses rats aged 3 month, 200-210 gram, total 24 rats consisting of 4 treatment, is control, smoke of cigarette, juwet fruit extracts, and smoke of cigarette to juwet fruit extracts. Each treatment consisting 6 replications, each consisting of 1 rat. Before, acclimatization of rat treated 7 days. Way of giving juwet fruit extracts the gavage method 2 ml once daily for 48 days, while the CMC-Na 0,5% is given control. The exposure to cigarette smoke is given from an aerator pump , to given once daily for 48 days. Data were analyzed with ANOVA, if they were 5% significantly different would be followed by a DMRT. The result showed that the number of abnormal sperm morphology were significantly diferent (p<0,05). The averange number of abnormal spermatozoa K1 group was higher than K3 group. The number of spermatozoa was not significant different between treatments. The average number of spermatozoa K1 lower than K3. This is because the smoke of cigarette increased formation of ROS and the resulting stress oxidative and cause cell damage tissues and organs, especially to the reproductive system. Juwet fruits extract have been able to improve the count and morphologyof rats spermatozoa expose to smoke.     Penelitian tentang rasio jenis kelamin pada kelahiran dilakukan untuk memperoleh informasi tentang rasio jenis kelamin pada kelahiran di Indonesia khususnya di pulau Bali. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh faktor suhu lingkungan terhadap konsepsi yang berdampak pada rasio jenis kelamin. Data kelahiran selama dua tahun diperoleh dari RSUD Wangaya Denpasar dan RSUD Bangli sejak bulan Desember 2010 hingga November 2012. Data suhu dan curah hujan didapat dari Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG) wilayah III di Denpasar. Data yang diperoleh diuji dengan chi-square test dan regresi linier. Rasio jenis kelamin pada kelahiran di RSUD Wangaya yaitu 108 kelahiran laki-laki per 100 kelahiran bayi perempuan dan di RSUD<br />Bangli yaitu 94 kelahiran bayi laki-laki per 100 kelahiran bayi perempuan. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada hubungan antara konsepsi penentuan jenis kelamin dengan suhu. Dapat disimpulkan rasio jenis  kelamin di RSUD Wangaya dan RSUD Bangli kemungkinan hanya  dipengaruhi oleh peluang

    This study aimed to determine the effect of juwet fruit extract on histological structure of rat(Rattus sp)  trachea which exposed to cigarette smoke. This research used Completely Randomized Design (CRD), with four treatments: the control group (K0) treated with 0.5 % CMC–Na, (K1) group is exposed to cigarette smoke, (K2) group were given juwetfruit extract, and (K3) group is exposed to cigarette smoke and juwet fruit extracts. Each treatment consisted of 6 rats as replication. The exposure to cigarette smoke is given from  an aerator pump lit cigarettes. Juwet fruit extract and 0.5 % CMC - Na was orally administered (gavage method) for 48 days. The existence of comperative descriptive observed cilia. And goblet number, high epithelium and lumen diameter Data were analyzed with ANOVA and If they were 5 % significantly different would be followed by Duncan test. Results showed that the extract of the fruit juwet significant effect on the histological structure of the trachea mice that had been exposed to smoke

    Effect of cod liver oil supplementation in commercial feed on reproductive organs weight and ovarian follicles size of local rabbits

    This study aimed to determine the effect of cod liver oil supplementation in commercial feed on reproductive organs weight and ovarian follicles size of local rabbits. The experimental design used was Completely Randomized Design with four feed treatments, i.e. commercial feed without supplementation of cod liver oil (CLO) as control (P0), commercial feed supplemented by 3% CLO (P1), 4.5% CLO (P2), and 6% CLO (P3). Each treatment consisted of ten rabbits as replication and treatment were given to rabbits from aged 4 to 6 months. The parameters observed were the weight of the reproductive organs, namely the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus and the size of the ovarian follicles, namely primary, secondary, tertiary and preovulatory follicles of local rabbits. The results showed that various levels of cod liver oil supplementation in commercial feed differed significantly (P&lt;0.05) to the weight of the reproductive organs and the size of the ovarian follicles of local rabbits. It can be concluded that cod liver oil supplementation at 4.5% level in commercial feed capable increase the reproductive organs weight and ovarian follicles size of local rabbits
