Enucleation of the solitary epithelial cyst of pancreatic head in an adult: A case report and review of the literature
Solitary true pancreatic cyst is a rare entity, and only a few cases are reported in the literature. We report a case of a 35‑year‑old woman who had a cyst in the head of the pancreas and gall stones and presented with complaints of pain in the epigastric region. The patient underwent open cholecystectomy with aspiration of the pancreatic cyst at some other private hospital. After 4 months, she presented to us with no relief in pain. Repeat contrast‑enhanced computed tomography of the abdomen showed recurrence of the cyst. The patient underwent enucleation of the cyst at our hospital. During a 2‑year follow‑up after the enucleation, she remained asymptomatic
Quantum Electronic Transport through a Precessing Spin
The conductance through a local nuclear spin precessing in a magnetic field
is studied by using the equations-of-motion approach. The characteristics of
the conductance is determined by the tunneling matrix and the position of
equilibrium chemical potential. We find that the spin flip coupling between the
electrons on the spin site and the leads produces the conductance oscillation.
When the spin is precessing in the magnetic field at Larmor frequency
(), the conductance develops the oscillation with the frequency of
both and 2 components, the relative spectrum weight of
which can be tuned by the chemical potential and the spin flip coupling.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
Political Dimension of Indian Federal System: an Evaluation
Indian federalism is a blend of formation of federations of both the existing modes of federations The prevailing situations at the juncture in the country forced the Constituent Assembly to make India a federation with the strong central government. The constitution makes adequate provisions for a true federation to meet out all the exigencies. In practice, it reflects both federal and unitary governments\u27 features as per the demand of the situations and has experienced, the bitter taste of emergency and coalition government. The decisions of the Hon\u27ble Supreme Court also contributed to clearing the grey areas. Undoubtedly, the constitution is a fundamental document to provide the guidelines and limits to government. Its success and applicability ultimately depend upon the mental make-up, honesty, and commitment of the persons at the helm of the affairs. The present write-up comprises of salient features of Indian federation, its historical profile, and the concluding remarks
Ministers and Civil Servants Relations in India: an Evaluation
In a parliamentary form of government, like in India, there exist two types of executives i.e. political or elected and permanent executive. Political executive derives its power from people and enjoys the power by virtue of constitutional position, while permanent executive or civil servant is selected on merit basis and accumulate its power due to an administrative position and technical expertise. The system of a democratic government is based on the principle of popular sovereignty wherein the supreme rests in people or their elected representative. Political executive or Minister is assisted by a civil servant. A balanced relationship between them is essential for smooth and efficient functioning of government. Minister and civil servant act as two pillars of the parliamentary form of government and weakness of any one of them will adversely affect the performance of government. Theoretically political and permanent executives perform a different role in government but in practice, their work is often overlapping and difficult to differentiate it
Magnification relations in gravitational lensing via multidimensional residue integrals
We investigate the so-called magnification relations of gravitational lensing
models. We show that multidimensional residue integrals provide a simple
explanation for the existence of these relations, and an effective method of
computation. We illustrate the method with several examples, thereby deriving
new magnification relations for galaxy lens models and microlensing (point mass
lensing).Comment: 16 pages, uses revtex4, submitted to Journal of Mathematical Physic
Can smartphone wireless ECGs be used to accurately assess ECG intervals in pediatrics? A comparison of mobile health monitoring to standard 12-lead ECG
BACKGROUND:Arrhythmias in children are often paroxysmal, complicating the ability to capture the abnormal rhythm on routine ECG during an outpatient visit. The Alivecor Kardia Mobile (KM) device is a wireless mobile health (mHealth) device that generates a single lead ECG tracing with a FDA-approved algorithm for detection of atrial fibrillation in adults. OBJECTIVE:The goal of this study is to assess the accuracy of interval measurements on KM tracings by directly comparing to standard 12-lead ECGs in pediatric patients. METHODS:This single center, prospective study enrolled pediatric outpatients, age 20ms with 4/9 (44%) having a conduction disorder and 2/9 (22%) having marked sinus arrhythmia. Bland-Altman method of agreement demonstrated strong agreement for QRSd and QTc. The AF algorithm reported 4/30 (13%) false positive "possible AF" diagnoses (rhythm over-read on KM demonstrated n = 3 marked sinus arrhythmia, n = 1 sinus rhythm with aberrated PACs) resulting in a specificity of 87%. CONCLUSION:The Alivecor Kardia device produces accurate single lead ECG tracings in both healthy children and children with cardiac disease or rhythm abnormalities across the pediatric spectrum. This mHealth application provides an accurate, non-invasive, real-time approach for ambulatory ECG monitoring in children and adolescents
Quantitative nucleotide level analysis of regulation of translation in response to depolarization of cultured neural cells
Studies on regulation of gene expression have contributed substantially to understanding mechanisms for the long-term activity-dependent alterations in neural connectivity that are thought to mediate learning and memory. Most of these studies, however, have focused on the regulation of mRNA transcription. Here, we utilized high-throughput sequencing coupled with ribosome footprinting to globally characterize the regulation of translation in primary mixed neuronal-glial cultures in response to sustained depolarization. We identified substantial and complex regulation of translation, with many transcripts demonstrating changes in ribosomal occupancy independent of transcriptional changes. We also examined sequence-based mechanisms that might regulate changes in translation in response to depolarization. We found that these are partially mediated by features in the mRNA sequence—notably upstream open reading frames and secondary structure in the 5′ untranslated region—both of which predict downregulation in response to depolarization. Translationally regulated transcripts are also more likely to be targets of FMRP and include genes implicated in autism in humans. Our findings support the idea that control of mRNA translation plays an important role in response to neural activity across the genome
