Appreciative seminars.Appreciative teaching of Appreciative Inquiry
The introduction of appreciative intervention methods at the organizational level as a discipline in the academic curriculum of the masters program “Supervision and Social Planning” is a starting point for the development of this methodology in various areas of social practice (Sandu, 2010). The experimental educational program “Appreciative Seminars” was implemented within the discipline Appreciative intervention methods at the organizational level in the program noted above. The initiative came from Mr. Dr. Antonio Sandu, of the Faculty of Philosophy and Social and Political Sciences, “Al. I. Cuza” University in Iasi, who has supported in the academic year 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 the mentioned discipline in close collaboration with Mr. Assoc. Professor Ph. D. Stefan Cojocaru, head masters program and at the same time the one who introduced the appreciative methods in the academic curriculum from Romania.appreciative semminars, appreciative education, appreciative teaching, appreciative Inquiry.
Impact of organization of organization development interventions on human capital: a case study of Thailand Appreciative Inquiry Network
Thailand Appreciative Inquiry Network (AI Thailand) has been established on 2007. AI Thailand aims to spread Appreciative Inquiry throughout Thailand. At the beginning, AI Thailand had 32 founding members. These 32 founding mem- bers were from diverse background, education and ages. One of the most challenging problems AI Thailand faced at that time was: AI Thailand members lacked of Human Capital in Appreciative Inquiry. If this problem was not properly addressed in a timely manner, AI Thailand would vanish. To address this challenge, the Researcher employed Action Research for eight cycles during eight months in order to develop AI Thailand members’ Human Capital. Organization Development Interventions implemented included: Appreciative Inquiry, Appreciative Coaching and Knowledge Management. For impacts of Organization Development, Participants’ Human Capital was developed. Human Capital consisted of 17 AI Champions, 12 AI Masters and 3 Apprentices. From pattern appraisal to unitary appreciative inquiry - a critical reflection on the development of the unitary appreciative inquiry method
Summative Assessment of the Core Module „Theoretical Developments in the Science and Art of Nursing“. The purpose of this article is to place Cowling’s unitary appreciative inquiry method in the context of nursing science and the development of unique nursing research methods. Unitary appreciative inquiry is one of a few nursing research and practice methodologies based on Martha Rogers’ theory, the Science of Unitary Human Beings. This article is reflecting the development of the unitary appreciative inquiry method in analyzing articles and literature published by Cowling and other authors that are related to Cowling’s ideas and approaches. A brief overview of the basic concepts, assumptions and principles of Rogers’ theory is given as well as some insights on other major influences on Cowling’s work. The changes that have been made over the past seventeen years from pattern appraisal to pattern appreciation and unitary appreciative inquiry in its current use are mapped and its contribution to current nursing knowledge and practice is critically reviewed. The author of this article strongly beliefs that nursing needs to develop its own research methods based on nursing theories for further development and improvement of nursing science as an independent and accepted discipline in human health care. It is from that perspective that Cowling’s work is reviewed
Appreciative inquiry as a method of transforming identity and power in Pakistani women
This paper describes a three-year action research project that used Appreciative Inquiry to work with marginalised Pakistani women living in Sheffield. The research encountered many of the difficulties and dilemmas that have been previously identified in the theory and practice of Appreciative Inquiry. However, it also empowered the participants to develop critical thinking, particularly around issues of power and identity. Through generating authentic and untold stories, Appreciative Inquiry enabled participants to discuss, subvert and challenge the identities that had been constructed for them by sources of power within their community and culture. This review serves to examine The Power of Appreciative Inquiry: A Practical Guide to Positive Change by Diana Whitney and Amanda Trosten - Bloom (2010). It will introduce the topic of Appreciative Inquiry, giving supporting information from the book, and discuss its adaptability. The authors discuss Appreciative Inquiry as a positive approach to change, introduces the 4D cycle associated with it, and uses it to explain how Appreciative Inquiry is carried out in many capacities at the organizational level. Furthermore, this review includes a look into the basic premise of Appreciative Inquiry and how this premise alone affords this Appreciative Inquiry process to be used outside of the business and organizational realm, particularly with families and individuals
Using appreciative inquiry to explore the professional practice of a lecturer in higher education: moving towards life-centric practice
This paper reports on a strategy for exploring the life-centric practice of a lecturer in Higher Education. The initiative for this inquiry arose out of the realisation that there did not appear to be positive, heart-lifting stories in a lecturer’s current teaching experiences. Using an appreciative eye and supported by a critical friend, life-giving experiences were ‘stalked’ from the past. The hope in this endeavour was to find greater meaning in the lecturer’s best professional practice. Using an Appreciative Inquiry approach, this endeavour rejuvenated the lecturer’s professional practice. As life-centric stories were recalled, provocative propositions were constructed that became the basis of a personalised action plan for future professional practice. Appreciative supervision in social work. New opportunities for changing the social work practice
The practice of social work focuses mainly on solving problems, on reducing dysfunctions, on diminishing deficiencies etc. More often then not, allocating resources for providing problem-centred social services does not solve the problems for which the services were designed. Our initiative consists in experimenting appreciative supervision and in identifying the potential differences between the two approaches, the one centred on problems and the appreciative one. The results we have obtained in the practice of social work through the application of appreciative supervision underscore the advantages of this approach, an approach which is capable to produce profound changes in the practice of social work.
