The influence of English on Spanish fashion terminology: -ing forms

As has been the case with other European languages, Spanish has welcomed the arrival of English words, in spite of all purist efforts to the contrary. Moreover, it has not only adopted and adapted true Anglicisms but it has also created other forms based on English patterns, such mechanisms particularly visible in the fashion jargon in Spanish. In this paper we focus on -ing forms in the Spanish language of fashion, which may at times be genuine Anglicisms (formal or semantic ones) or false Anglicisms (analogical creations, that is, English-looking lexical elements), found in Spanish editions of fashion magazines such as Vogue, Elle, InStyle, Grazia, Glamour, and Cosmopolitan. The main aim of this study is to qualitatively analyse and classify -ing Anglicisms and false Anglicisms in the aforementioned jargon in order to establish whether the impact of English in the Spanish fashion jargon is so important as to replace native words and expressions

Reinterpretacija elipse u formiranju anglizama

U radu se analiziraju eliptični oblici anglizama u ruskome i hrvatskome jeziku i dopunjuje pristup njihove dosadašnje kvalifikacije i klasifikacije. Preciznijim definicijama stupnja elipse u anglizmu predlaže se jednostavnije i jasnije određivanje njihovih granica i razlika. Na temelju rezultata analize anglizama uočene su nove mogućnosti u njihovu formiranju. U formiranju eliptičnoga oblika anglizma nije nužno samo ispuštanje određenih elemenata, već se eliptični oblik anglizma može formirati i s pomoću kombinacija drugih tvorbenih načina: kombinacijom elipse i supstitucije, elipse i kompozicije, elipse i adicije, elipse, supstitucije i adicije, elipse, supstitucije i kompozicije te kombinacijom elipse, adicije i kompozicije.The paper presents the results of an analysis of elliptic anglicisms in Russian and Croatian economic terminology. These results have led to the revision and reinterpretation of the formation of elliptic anglicisms and their classification and qualification according to the stages of their adaptation. Along with a presentation of the combinations of various formation forms of pseudoanglicisms, new definitions for the differentiation of the stages of adaptation have been offered

Posljedice internacionalizacije u hrvatskome jeziku

Posljedice globalizacijskih procesa vidljive su i u jeziku kao tendencija k internacionalizaciji. Internacionalizacija, ili možda preciznije angloamerikanizacija, zahvatila je sve jezike modernoga svijeta. Hrvatski jezik nije iznimka. U ovom ćemo radu spomenuti samo neke od posljedica internacionalizacije, i to na leksičkoj, tvorbenoj i semantičkoj razini.The consequences of globalization processes are visible in language as tendencies towards internationalization. Internationalization, or more precisely Anglo-Americanization, has affected all modern languages in the world and the Croatian language is no exception. Due to the great influence of the English language, new development tendencies can be found on many language levels. All this stresses the need for standardologists to dedicate more serious consideration to this problem, and offer adequate and unified solutions, especially on the levels of orthography and word formation

Aspects of Linguistic Politeness in Serbian. A Data-based Comparison with German

The article investigates forms of address and request behaviour in Serbian as compared to German. It is based on an empirical study with authentic speech data and a survey among na-tive speakers of the two languages. While the corpora of authentic speech data document mainly service encounters and other minimal everyday interactions, the survey aims at reveal-ing the judgements and attitudes of native speakers towards different request strategies. The results point towards the well-known distinction between "solidarity cultures" in the East and "distance cultures" in the West. However, such findings must be treated with caution as other factors seem to influence the range of strategies available in the two languages as well

Anglicizmi u poslovnim komunikacijama u hrvatskom pomorstvu

Na korpusu poslovnih i svakodnevnih radnih komunikacija u pomorstvu na hrvatskom jeziku utvrđuju se, razvrstavaju i opisuju načini posuđivanja i stupanj prilagodbe engleskih leksič kih elemenata u hrvatskom jeziku. Korpus obuhvaća tekst posredovan isključivo putem faksa i teleksa. Uz kraću analizu ove specifične vrste diskursa u hrvatskom istražuju se osobitosti posu|ivanja stručnoobilježenog leksika iz engleskog jezika. Posebice se obrađuje prilagodba engleskih posuđenica na fonološkoj, morfološkoj i semantičkoj razini

Anglicizmi i prevođenje: bez konzultinga nema happy enda

Nakon kraćeg sagledavanja odnosa modela i replike iz perspektive prevođenja te razmatranja pojma »lažni prijatelji«, u članku se predstavlja jedna ranija tipologija lažnih prijatelja. Iznosi se zatim vlastiti pokušaj grupiranja parova lažnih prijatelja sastavljenih od anglicizma u hrvatskom i njegova pogrešno pretpostavljenog »korespondenta« u engleskom. Pritom se navodi nekoliko grupa koje proširuju ranije predstavljenu tipologiju. Potvrđuje se mišljenje da anglicizmi, zbog višestruke sličnosti sa svojim modelima koja međutim nije i identičnost, zahtijevaju prilikom prevođenja poseban oprez
