Status and prospects of searches for neutrinoless double beta decay
The simultaneous beta decay of two neutrons in a nucleus without the emission
of neutrinos (called neutrinoless double beta decay) is a lepton number
violating process which is not allowed in the Standard Model of particle
physics. More than a dozen experiments using different candidate isotopes and a
variety of detection techniques are searching for this decay. Some (EXO-200,
Kamland-Zen, GERDA) started to take data recently. EXO and Kamland-Zen have
reported first limits of the half life for Xe. After a
decade of little progress in this field, many new results will soon scrutinize
the claim from part of the Heidelberg-Moscow collaboration to have observed
this decay. The sensitivities of the different proposals are reviewed.Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Annalen der Physik (Berlin
Searches for neutrinoless double beta decay
Neutrinoless double beta decay is a lepton number violating process whose
observation would also establish that neutrinos are their own anti-particles.
There are many experimental efforts with a variety of techniques. Some (EXO,
Kamland-Zen, GERDA phase I and CANDLES) started take data in 2011 and EXO has
reported the first measurement of the half life for the double beta decay with
two neutrinos of Xe. The sensitivities of the different proposals are
reviewed.Comment: 8 pages, prepared for TAUP 201
Refleksi Ajaran Budhisme-zen Terhadap Tokoh Nenek Osano Dalam Novel Saga No Gabai Bachan Karya Yoshichi Shimada.
Buddhism entered Japan with the process of assimilation of the teachings of Shinto and Taoism that can be called with Zen-Buddhism. The influence of Zen-Buddhism in Japan itself, is embedded in Japanese society such as taste, style, identity, social status, personality, and mentality. Therefore, Zen-Buddhism can inspire the author to create a work that can reflect and give an overview of the life of a particular era. Writing a novel with the themes of reflection of life and certain moral teachings can provide ideas to make the author of a work, which here is novel. One novel that raised the idea teaching of Zen-Buddhism is Saga No Gabai Bachan. Therefore, in this study the authors will answer the research question is the relationship between Zen-Buddhism with a moral message to be conveyed author. This study uses the approach of Zen-Buddhism. In this study Zen-Buddhism will be described through the descriptive text. The results of this study indicate that the Japanese people especially Osano always tried to reflect on the teachings of Buddhism-Zen in daily life. Of 8 Zen-Buddhism (astangamarga), there are 5 things that reflect morality and performed by figures which right words / speech, right action, right, right living, right effort and right thinking. In this novel taught how we should always be optimistic and look to the future with a good mind, and the words were honest. The conclusion of this research is the novel Saga No Gabai Bachan illustrates the problems faced by everyone in everyday life, which in this era, more people will be easy to quickly despair in solving his problems, and it is known that the Japanese people are always trying reflect the teachings of Zen-Buddhism without having to go to a particular place of worship. Here the authors suggest that the novelSaga No Gabai Bachan can be studied in more detail by using a psychology approach so as to know the personality / character of the main character is Osano Grandma

Automated Instruction Stream Throughput Prediction for Intel and AMD Microarchitectures
An accurate prediction of scheduling and execution of instruction streams is
a necessary prerequisite for predicting the in-core performance behavior of
throughput-bound loop kernels on out-of-order processor architectures. Such
predictions are an indispensable component of analytical performance models,
such as the Roofline and the Execution-Cache-Memory (ECM) model, and allow a
deep understanding of the performance-relevant interactions between hardware
architecture and loop code. We present the Open Source Architecture Code
Analyzer (OSACA), a static analysis tool for predicting the execution time of
sequential loops comprising x86 instructions under the assumption of an
infinite first-level cache and perfect out-of-order scheduling. We show the
process of building a machine model from available documentation and
semi-automatic benchmarking, and carry it out for the latest Intel Skylake and
AMD Zen micro-architectures. To validate the constructed models, we apply them
to several assembly kernels and compare runtime predictions with actual
measurements. Finally we give an outlook on how the method may be generalized
to new architectures.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures, 7 table
Wild Emptiness: A Zen Approach to Environmental Ethics
When Buddhism took root in China and integrated with the nation’s Taoist intellectual climate, the tradition retained the orthodox central objective of overcoming suffering. While conserving this principal aspiration, the rise of Zen is associated with deviation from the orthodox practice of monasticism and toward the practical embodiment of emptiness while integrated in society, which can be likened to the practice of unwavering compassion. This piece offers a Zen approach to environmental ethics such that it is an attempt to explicate how and why an individual practicing Zen should compassionately engage with the earth. With respect to the Buddhist employment of skillful means, different approaches are offered as tailored ethical frameworks to appeal to individuals at different stages in their path to awakening. Furthermore, the environmental ethic appealed to by the awakened individual is explicated as spontaneous harmonization with the flow of emptiness, that which the Buddhists regard to be the driving force of the phenomenal realm. The awakened individual is considered to non-deliberately take on a lifestyle that provides perpetual intimacy with the rhythms of wild emptines
