Improving energy efficiency in wireless sensor networks through scheduling and routing
This paper is about the wireless sensor network in environmental monitoring
applications. A Wireless Sensor Network consists of many sensor nodes and a
base station. The number and type of sensor nodes and the design protocols for
any wireless sensor network is application specific. The sensor data in this
application may be light intensity, temperature, pressure, humidity and their
variations .Clustering and routing are the two areas which are given more
attention in this paper.Comment: 7 Pages, 2 Figures and 1 Tabl
OLIMPO, An Ad-Hoc Wireless Sensor Network Simulator for Public Utilities Applications
This paper introduces OLIMPO, an useful
simulation tool for researchers who are developing wireless
sensor communication protocols. OLIMPO is a discreteevent
simulator design to be easily recon gured by the user,
providing a way to design, develop and test communication
protocols.
In particular, we have designed a self-organizing wireless
sensor network for low data rate. Our premise is that, due
to their inherent spread location over large areas, wireless
sensor networks are well-suited for SCADA applications,
which require relatively simple control and monitoring.
To show the facilities of our simulator, we have studied
our network protocol with OLIMPO, developing several
simulations. The purpose of these simulations is to demonstrate,
quantitatively, the capability of our network to
support this kind of applications
REVIEW ON HIERARCHICAL ROUTING IN WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS
The Wireless Sensor Network(WSN) has become an interesting field of research of the 21st century. It is a type of the wireless ad-hoc network. This has brought about developing low cost, low-power and multi-function sensor nodes. The network life for wireless sensor network plays an important role in survivability. Energy efficiency is one of the critical concerns for wireless sensor networks. Sensor nodes are strictly constrained in terms of storage, board energy and processing capacity. For these reasons, many new protocols have been proposed for the purpose of data routing in sensor networks. These protocols can be classified into three main categories: data-centric, location-based and hierarchical. This paper mainly deals with some of the major Energy-efficient hierarchical routing protocols for wireless sensor networks. First we will discuss the energy-efficient Hierarchical routing protocols in brief along with their important features, objectives, drawbacks and area of application. Finally, we provide a comparison of these various protocols
AM-DisCNT: Angular Multi-hop DIStance based Circular Network Transmission Protocol for WSNs
The nodes in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) contain limited energy
resources, which are needed to transmit data to base station (BS). Routing
protocols are designed to reduce the energy consumption. Clustering algorithms
are best in this aspect. Such clustering algorithms increase the stability and
lifetime of the network. However, every routing protocol is not suitable for
heterogeneous environments. AM-DisCNT is proposed and evaluated as a new energy
efficient protocol for wireless sensor networks. AM-DisCNT uses circular
deployment for even consumption of energy in entire wireless sensor network.
Cluster-head selection is on the basis of energy. Highest energy node becomes
CH for that round. Energy is again compared in the next round to check the
highest energy node of that round. The simulation results show that AM-DisCNT
performs better than the existing heterogeneous protocols on the basis of
network lifetime, throughput and stability of the system.Comment: IEEE 8th International Conference on Broadband and Wireless

Attacks on Geographic Routing Protocols for Wireless Sensor Network
With the increase in the military and several other applications of Wireless Sensor Network, provisions must be made for secure transmission of sensitive information
throughout the network. Most of the routing protocols proposed for ad-hoc networks and sensor networks are not designed with security as a goal. Hence, many routing
protocols are vulnerable to an attack by an adversary who can disrupt the network or harness valuable information from the network. Routing Protocols for wireless sensor networks are classified into three types depending on their network structure as Flat routing protocols, Hierarchical routing protocol and Geographic routing protocols. Large number of nodes in a wireless sensor network , limited battery power and their data centric nature make routing in wireless sensor network a challenging problem. We mainly concentrate on location-based or geographic routing protocol like Greedy Perimeter Stateless Routing Protocol. Sybil attack and Selective forwarding attack are the two attacks feasible in GPSR. These attacks are implemented in GPSR and their losses caused to the network are analysed
