Distributed Beamforming with Wirelessly Powered Relay Nodes
This paper studies a system where a set of relay nodes harvest energy
from the signal received from a source to later utilize it when forwarding the
source's data to a destination node via distributed beamforming. To this end,
we derive (approximate) analytical expressions for the mean SNR at destination
node when relays employ: i) time-switching based energy harvesting policy, ii)
power-splitting based energy harvesting policy. The obtained results facilitate
the study of the interplay between the energy harvesting parameters and the
synchronization error, and their combined impact on mean SNR. Simulation
results indicate that i) the derived approximate expressions are very accurate
even for small (e.g., ), ii) time-switching policy by the relays
outperforms power-splitting policy by at least dB.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, accepted for presentation at IEEE VTC 2017 Spring

Minimizing Outage Probability by Exploiting CSI in Wireless Powered Cooperative Networks
In this work, we address the relay selection problem for the wireless powered
communication networks, where the relays harvest energy from the source radio
frequency signals. A single source-destination pair is considered without a
direct link. The connecting relay nodes are equipped with storage batteries of
infinite size. We assume that the channel state information (CSI) on the
source-relay link is available at the relay nodes. Depending on the
availability of the CSI on the relay-destination link at the relay node, we
propose different relay selection schemes and evaluate the outage probability.
The availability of the CSI at the relay node on the relay-destination link
considerably improves the performance due to additional flexibility in the
relay selection mechanism. We numerically quantify the performance for the
proposed schemes and compare the outage probability for fixed and equal number
of wireless powered forwarding relays.Comment: accepted in IEEE Globecom 201
Outage and bit error probability analysis in energy harvesting wireless cooperative networks
This study focuses on a wireless powered cooperative communication network (WPCCN), which includes a hybrid access point (HAP), a source and a relay. The considered source and relay are installed without embedded energy supply (EES), thus are dependent on energy harvested from signals from the HAP to power their cooperative information transmission (IT). Taking inspiration from this, the author group investigates into a harvest-then-cooperate (HTC) protocol, whereas the source and the relay first harvest the energy from the AP in a downlink (DL) and then collaboratively work in uplink (UL) for IT of the source. For careful evaluation of the system performance, derivations of the approximate closed-form expression of the outage probability (OP) and an average bit error probability ( ABER) for the HTC protocol over Rayleigh fading channels are done. Lastly, the author group performs Monte-Carlo simulations to reassure the numerical results they obtained.Web of Science255746
